guy, I want to thank you for getting me into Warhammer and painting miniatures. your how to paint your first miniature video was incredibly helpful just starting out.
Don’t get me wrong. I love all the videos and having Steve on the channel was a treat. The terrain looks great. But when you said at the beginning that this was easy I did not expect 20 different skills, 10 different tools and a gazillion different paint products 😂 but thank you anyway. It was fun to watch
Crikey, this is the Steve that designed this awesome claustrophobic spacey terrain? Purchased the files a while ago, and what a lovely guy! super helpful and forthcoming with printing advice. Thanks for this impromptu painting guide too you legend!
Maybe. I gave away all my minis about 10 years ago. Had a huge imperial guard army all in APCs. I have been thinking about painting some blood bowl teams - I'm not at all interested in playing the games anymore, but find the painting enjoyable.
That’s pretty much how I got back in a few years ago@@andrewjolly319.Started with kill teams and a few one off minis. Didn’t have any plans to start playing. It’s a slippery slope 🤣 Why not jump back in….?
Guy and Steve - thank you so much. As a smaller TH-camr that focuses on terain and 40k - this is an amazing tutorial and a great product. Glad to grab this bundle. You're both the absolute best!
We've clearly a man passionate with the enviromental here. I can feel the amount of research to find the proper way and catch the result desired. Fully understand. Lovely work.
That liquid mask coming off at 9:15 was some freaking sorcery. I don't remember having my mind blown by a painting technique like that since I first saw you put crackle paint on necrons in the first video I saw on this channel.
Awesome video. Please have Steve do more a mid tier painting and advanced videos. This scenery looks amazing. Looking forward to the next video. Keep up the good work.
guy, i wanted to thank you for the time i had a kidney stone. your speed paint techniques cleared that up. i never drank from a sketchy mug ever again.
if you don't have Dirty Down rust effects, you can simulate it by applying some Burnt Umber paint, either with a brush or sponge or thinned as a wash. This can be followed up with some more vibrant orange paint as a spot color, for that most corroded look.
I'm out of the hobby for a few years, yet I absolutely love the content on your channel. I just think your content is some of the most wholesome in the whole mini-hobby sphere!
I love the fact that your channel is one of the only ones that still mostly paints miniatures... No silly crazy stunts, like $10000 diorama, 100kgs of resin, look I freehanded the sistine chapel on this warlord titan's shoulder.
haven't really made use of sponges before, but as per usual when watching a Midwinter video, I feel inspired to branch out a little bit and try something new for my next project. Hasn't steered me wrong so far, and I do happen to have some terrain I've been wanting to tackle, so onward and upward...
Looks like I may have found the right inspiration to get my Gallowdark terrain painted now. Also I have your Blackstone Fortress videos to thank for getting me back into miniature painting last year. Only had a short hiatus of around 20 years 😂 Plus as an adult that earns their own money I've obviously gone over board and gathered a ridiculous amount of minis to paint! 🤦🏻♂️
For the record I didn't make it 1/2 way through the video before I paused and purchased the Mega bundle, I almost missed the discount code. Great job! I'm going to use them for SW5e.
If you give decals three or four goes with Micro-Sol, letting it dry each time before adding more, they end up even less shiny and it makes the border of the decal invisible after the matt varnish.
It's so freaky that I JUST BOUGHT those same STLs the other day and now I'm getting pro tips on how to paint them. Get out of my attic, guy. I HEAR YOU UP THERE WITH THE MICROPHONE!
Amazing tutorial and what a result, this looks better than probably any of my miniatures! Sadly I just don't have the patience nore the time to invest in a single terrain piece. MM has always been my favorite channel for the beginner friendly and streamlined focused tutorials. Videos like this are great, but I hope Guy keeps doing some tutorials focused on people with less time or resources. I've always shown MM's channel to people coming into the hobby because of the accessibility of the speedpainting and easy to do videos. Even the how to play 9th edition is the best I've seen on YT and hope for a new one with 10th! One of my concerns with social media is that there are so many great but intimidating videos by hobby professionals that some beginners are lead to believe that it's expected to invest 50 hours in one model and this channel has always done a great job of showing that the hobby can be fun, easy and accessible. I hope you don't forget that and still mix in something for the not so talented or dedicated sometimes. Either way, love all your videos and thanks for the amazing content!
Heartily agree. Very impressive results from a Golden Demon winner, but not really practical for me - someone who getting a full board of terrain finished to pretty much ANY level would be a massive effort in a time constrained life. Quick and dirty for me, all the way ;-)
I do like the idea of this video being easy for beginners in the sense that the techniques don't require much skill. However, in my case as a beginner I think it would be more valuable to me to see a video that doesn't take much special supplies/materials, even if it takes more skill to execute.
My local hobby shop has 2 kits of the boarding action terrain. Not sure if thats what this is, or is inspired from; I was super tempted, but I'm more in love with the dimachaeron... I fell in love with that sculpt; I could have so much fun detailing and painting that thing... that comes first, lol.
Always a pleasure to watch Guy's videos ! And while it's always sad to reach the end, the ending music theme is so cool it's still pleasant to the very last second :D
Some great great tricks inhere! I do things way easier and quicker because it is just terrain but this is an awesome video alone for all the tips how to use these different products.
So happy Rahul has made it onto the channel! Looks like he's leaning towards a melee army, think you might need to introduce him to my friends, The World Eaters. Skulls for the skull throne!
I'm not into painting as fast as possible, this is my creative hobby time after all, but the little things like masking fluid an blue tack are genius, can't get on with chipping medium.
how much extra do you think Steve would charge to print these out for me if I pay shipping? I can't really justify saving up for a 3d printer just for one (admittedly awesome) set of terrain
i do agree that no techniques here is complicated but that's a lot of steps with a lot of products so i wouldn't call it simple. and a lot of money spend on specialty paints you don't really use in every day painting
Now this is the MWMs I love. Great video with plenty of "jump off" points depending on your skill level. So how long till Steve starts a YT channel too?
I love the fact that Steve is getting a spotlight in the channel, he’s a great painter!
Ive tried six different times and i CANNOT replicate that gorgeous patina look.
guy, I want to thank you for getting me into Warhammer and painting miniatures. your how to paint your first miniature video was incredibly helpful just starting out.
That's so lovely! Cheers matey :)

12:30 so happy you showed how to recreate the effect even without a airbrush
This technique will see my Into the Dark set finished in about 6 years.
Crikey, this is the Steve that designed this awesome claustrophobic spacey terrain? Purchased the files a while ago, and what a lovely guy! super helpful and forthcoming with printing advice. Thanks for this impromptu painting guide too you legend!
Happy to help 👍
Steve love this terrain
Every time I watch one of these videos I consider getting back into painting minis. I reckon I did my last one circa 1999...
Do it 😉
Maybe. I gave away all my minis about 10 years ago. Had a huge imperial guard army all in APCs. I have been thinking about painting some blood bowl teams - I'm not at all interested in playing the games anymore, but find the painting enjoyable.

@@LPP_YT time & cost mainly.
best terrain video painting i've seen - huge help thanks mm!

Finally!! I can paint the boxes full of stuff from guy’s tutorials
Seriously tho too much scatter terrain is in my closet
Who needs skeletons in the closet when you've got scatter terrain
Love bringing in other people to spotlight on the channel. Well done Guy and Steve!
Don’t care what anyone says but guy is the most entertaining and engaging hobby TH-camr I’ve watched
That liquid mask coming off at 9:15 was some freaking sorcery. I don't remember having my mind blown by a painting technique like that since I first saw you put crackle paint on necrons in the first video I saw on this channel.
This is marvellous - can Steve come back another time?
Awesome video. Please have Steve do more a mid tier painting and advanced videos. This scenery looks amazing. Looking forward to the next video. Keep up the good work.
Steve is so ridiculously talented at this.
YES. Preach the gorgeousness of Jet Exhaust!!! I’m using it on all of my Space Hulk terrain as well.
Given that our timezones are right next to one another and it's midnight here, I have to admire your dedication to posting videos...
guy, i wanted to thank you for the time i had a kidney stone. your speed paint techniques cleared that up. i never drank from a sketchy mug ever again.

Thank you for posting this video a day after I spend 2 straight months slogging through my boarding action terrain. Really great timing there.
We all love your vids guy.
Keep up your amazing work.
(Ps Steve your painting is amazing 😊)

You can unsubscribe from Tabletop Time if you don't like their videos
I mean I literally drank paint a couple of weeks ago, haha. We all do stupid stuff for fun, no judgement here :)
@@bolicob I'm don't even know who table top time is. Lol.
@Midwinter Minis Sure, that was weird and all, but I like the "let's actually paint something" videos, that's all.
wow that terrain looks amazing :D
Oh that’s brilliant. Thanks Guy and Steve. Awesome work
Not even watched the vid yet but omg I can't stress enough how coincidental perfect the timing for this video is. My terrain is my next project.
Purchased! Thanks Guy and Steve

Nicely done! You could also use toothpicks to scratch up the decals without worrying about going down to primer
Definitely 👍
Looks like I may have found the right inspiration to get my Gallowdark terrain painted now.

Very easy, easy I could be painting terrain until 2032 if I do this lol this is top notch spec!
i like the doorway piece very much
The use of liquid mask, genius.

lots of good tricks in this and that terrain is great too!

Get out of my attic, guy. I HEAR YOU UP THERE WITH THE MICROPHONE!
Thanks for all your videos I’m getting warhammer for my b day and your videos will help loads. 😊
Looks insane
Perfect timing i just bought the into the dark boxset
That's a fantastic technique
This is awesome! I'm super stoked for boarding action and want use this scheme. Killer!
You should paint lion eljonshon in your retro dark angel paint scheme
Great vid. Ty so much. Nice terrain too.
Really nice paint job on that fantasticly awesome terrain! Bought!
Please make Steve a regular on the channel!
This looks really good great work

Great looking terrain. Think I need to try this tutorial on some of my Killteam box terrain in the future.

Wow perfect, I'm gearing up to start my into the dark stuff soon and this looks awesome
Me:
Wanting to paint all of my kill team into darkness tomorrow
Midwinter Minis:
Nice video. I like the design and the painted look of the terrain.
What about doing a gloss varnish on the glass bits?
Absolutely, that would work great 👍
My local hobby shop has 2 kits of the boarding action terrain. Not sure if thats what this is, or is inspired from; I was super tempted, but I'm more in love with the dimachaeron... I fell in love with that sculpt; I could have so much fun detailing and painting that thing... that comes first, lol.
Great vid and love the look of that terrain
Great stuff friend 👏 👍
Like your style 😊
Oh, very nice guide
synthetic brushes and white spirit/sansador, for enamel washes
Always a pleasure to watch Guy's videos ! And while it's always sad to reach the end, the ending music theme is so cool it's still pleasant to the very last second :D

Love it 👌
those gloves give a very nice "serial killer" vibe to this video...
Beautifully grimy
Fantastic stuff!
Dude puts more effort on a door than I do on a model :O
Same
Great tutorial
Awesome video! I've been wanting to up my scenery/terrain lately 😄
Pencil eraser work great for removing small pieces of liquid mask
So happy Rahul has made it onto the channel!
Looks like he's leaning towards a melee army, think you might need to introduce him to my friends, The World Eaters. Skulls for the skull throne!
Love your vids guy gonna be big in the TH-cam scene some day
You ever thought of doing a kill team battle report guy?
It might be fun, I just haven't played enough of the new version to be good enough to film it really.
Awesome 👍
I'm not into painting as fast as possible, this is my creative hobby time after all, but the little things like masking fluid an blue tack are genius, can't get on with chipping medium.
I feel this guy has painted Imperial Fists.
I feel bad now, "SIMPLE", the effort put in to those doors is what I'm able to put into my best minis. 😅🤣
Looking good! One question: Why bother with the liquid mask if you can also just sponge metallic paint over the yellow door?
He also designed them? They are so cool Looking!
The real question is, when are you guys appearing on The Painting Phase?
Wow these walls looking better than the Gw ones 😂
excellent work. crap that I bought the whole set of STLs yesterday, though 😞
how much extra do you think Steve would charge to print these out for me if I pay shipping? I can't really justify saving up for a 3d printer just for one (admittedly awesome) set of terrain
I'm not sure! I think he's actually semi-seriously considering casting some resin models for the most popular bits, so... watch this space maybe?
Great video. The video production is quality is nice and Steve is an excellent hobbiest and teacher . Big Sexy Steve.
Man is pumping out the content lately
We can achieve exceptionally high paintjobs on our Genestealer-corrupted Tau 😁
Now I just need to buy 20 paints I don't already have
i do agree that no techniques here is complicated but that's a lot of steps with a lot of products so i wouldn't call it simple. and a lot of money spend on specialty paints you don't really use in every day painting
Should I apply some varnish once I am done painting my terrain? If so which kind? :)
This is awesome! When you water down the contrast paint, how do you keep it from bubbling? When I sponge it on, it always gets foamy/bubbly.
Now this is the MWMs I love. Great video with plenty of "jump off" points depending on your skill level.
So how long till Steve starts a YT channel too?
imo dirty down is one of the last steps bc it get's reactivated so fast
More Rust for Rust God! !!
That code is quite choice! lol
I'm here before the Discord announcement!
*Looks at pile of unpainted terrain
"Hmmm 50% off you say?"
