Which Q50 to BUY 3.7 or 3.0t ??? | WARNING debate rant!!

  • Both platforms have their merits, so deciding between the two can be tough, but are either of them a good buy for 2021? Here are a few of the very basic elements I think about to answer this question. ALSO--Are you as tired of the 3.0t vs 3.7 debate as I am? I recently filmed a rant video after falling into a rabbit hole of ignorant comments in a Facebook group, however I never posted it. If this video hits....10k views by Valentines day, I'll upload the whole thing lol. Let me know if you want to see it!
    AND Jaliscos Carbonfiber has presented me with a challenge!!!
    He has sent me a package stating that it is an upgrade to a part I already have and that I have to agree to do an install video and GIVE AWAY my current part to a subscriber without actually knowing what the part is first!! CHALLENGE ACCEPTED! Stick around for this crazy deal!
    Let me know if you're interested in the new Speed Culture Decals!!

    For me the 3.7 is fast enough for the street, sounds way better than the 3.0t and is basically perfect for a daily driver vehicle (that's what mine is). If I ever decide to go for something with a turbo it honestly probably won't be Infiniti.

    One thing a lot of people don't mention when comparing the 3.7 vs 3.0T, while it still doesn't offer a dual clutch, from what I have read the transmission was drastically beefed up. I think this is a pretty important factor a lot people say "well you can just super charge the 3.7 and you'll be competitive with a modified 3.0T". However, from what I gather the 3.7 platforms transmission cant handle much more then 350 ftlb torque which creates a expensive bill when it goes. The 3.0T it sounds like the transmission can handle power well into at least the 400's.
    I would say I do have some buyers remorse, I was in the same position as you when I bought this car. The 3.0T was only in production for one year and I had just left owning a built STI that I was constantly dumping money into, I wanted something more reliable. In retrospect I think I should've purchased the 3.0T based on what I was looking for in the car.
    You hit the nail on the head saying it depends on what you want it for. If you just want a reliable daily driver I would say go with the 3.7 not because it is necessarily more reliable but its for all intensive purposes the same car, to someone who isn't modifying it and just daily driving, but you can save your self a good 10k. For someone looking to modify the car, as much as I like my 3.7, I think it is truly a no brainer the 3.0T just has more potential relative to cost - horse power ratio. A simple tune and bolt ons put you well into the 400's on the 3.0T platform. That would cost you the price tag of a super charger and supporting mods on a 3.7. While having the peace of mind that some of the more beefed up components on the 3.0t, transmission ect, will hold the power.

    • @SpeedCultureStudios
      @SpeedCultureStudios  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Totally agree. And yes, the trans, although still a 7spd auto, it was beefed up for the 3.0t. The newer trans can definitely hold more torque than the vq37 trans giving it a substantial advantage. However, there have been cases of the stock VQ trans holding strong in boosted situations and being beat on for months on end. With that being said, the advantage still goes to the newer version. A swap is possible though, but now you’re talking about $10k for a boosted vq plus the cost of a vr tans and swap. May as well have gotten the 3.0t in the first place at that point.

    • @Dreamevil2009
      @Dreamevil2009 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@SpeedCultureStudios Agree with you there, I guess the only way I could say you can justify going balls to the walls on the 3.7 platform is if you already own it the price difference to pick up the 3.0T may be around the same as super charging the 3.7 if you can find used parts. That or if you just are a die hard VQ37 fan for whatever reason and it is some how worth it to you haha.
      Question for you on those brake calipers you got. I see on Concept Z performance offers a big brake kit package but its substantially more expensive...any down falls with the cheaper option you picked up? I am always weary on things that are a lot cheaper for the life long saying "to good to be true" haha.

      @@Dreamevil2009 The calipers I got are remanufactured and in a raw state with no pads included. Are the calipers new at CZ? I suspect so. And likely include pads too, no? Most of those packages are expensive because they are either brand new or powder coated and include pads. I wouldn’t say it’s too good to be true-because it takes some effort to get them looking good and you still have to buy pads, banjo bolts etc. BUT I’ll be testing them out-hopefully sooner than later-and let you know if it’s a good idea or not! Well, that is a very nice insight into it. I'm looking to purchase a Q50 either the 3.0t or the 3.7. In my case, I have a wife and 2 chindren (4 and 7 years old each) and that's why I'm not looiing into the coupes, sportscars, muscle cars or other big compromise vehicle. And in this case, the car will remain stock for a while (at least 2 or 3 years), so it comes down to price against reliability. So, for the 3.0t that could fin into my budget, it would most likely give me some issues and that is not what I want. On th3 other hand, the 3.7 is more likely to have more miles and more abuse, so I can also expect som3 issues that come with wear and tear of the vehicle. I guess I'm gonna go for a 2015 3.7 with all the mechanical tests before buying and with time I will get into suspension, bib brake kits, tunes, customization... who knows, mayb3 nothing or maybe I end up with a 3.7 twin turbo. But yeah, don't get so pissed by the 3.0 vs 3.7 debate. We all wanna have the better car and we all wanna know what is the better purchase.

    Having owned a lot of Nissans in the past as well as Infiniti. From B13 Sentra to a b15 spec v then buying a brand new 03 350z touring at the age of 22. Then trading it for an 07 350z HR then came along the 09 g37x sedan, to a 2008 g37s coupe then I totaled it then having to buy another 08 g37s coupe but with full bolt ons with up rev tune then selling it to get another 2010 g37x sedan that I kept stock sold it and bought a used 2014 Q50 3.7 from a private seller that I currently daily. I financed a brand new 2017 Q60 red sport which cost me 😅 ill just keep that to myself all I can say on the financial end of it was the biggest worst financial decision of my life. As for me I love the reliability of the Q50 3.7 so far and it sounds so much better than the Q60 as far as exhaust goes. My q60 RS is stock but I’ve heard cat back set ups that doesn’t have that VQ tone or even that VR tone from the GTR. It seems you have to really go down the middle of the exhaust and start changing things to get distinguish GT-R tone or VQ tone. Overall the Q60 looks better, faster but reliability sucks. I’ve had the turbos replaced twice by the warranty, I’ve suffered so much heatsoaking and I upgraded the heat exchanger. Also the drive belt was giving me issues and was also replaced by warranty. Never had to really do anything major or experienced anything major with the Q50 3.7 I just do regular maintenance, changed the serpentine belt and that’s basically it. The VR30 is still a new engine and still not perfect as the VQ engine which is basically bulletproof. Has a long standing of reliability in the HR and VHR range minus the whole DE issues of oil burning and early models of VHR with gallery gaskets failing which is a hit or miss. I love both cars but Infiniti is failing, their sales are declining now their market is only USA and China.

I’ve had my Q50 since June of 2020 and it’s been my daily driver ever since (I do race here & there) and it’s still holding up strong, no issues whatsoever. those issues only happen once you heavily modify these, but then again, what car doesn’t experience issues once you start to modify them?
