All of us 3.7 owners would love to upgrade to the next platform being 3.0TT BUT every single one of us are hesitant due to the reliability issues with the 3.0TT motor. It feels more like a downgrade.
Very true
How reliable are the transmissions on the 3.7’s? I’ve heard they’re not that great
@@minifly4926 The TCM's go bad, but it's easy to replace. That's the only problem with those transmissions. But for some reason my 7AT is at 156k miles with original everything including fluid and shifts perfectly so idk how common the issue really is.
I had the 3.0TT, then a 340i, and I can confirm your suspicions are true. Even had I not totaled the Q50, it still gave me problems at 32k miles… My AC Compressor needed replacement at that mileage. My 340i was a whole other story, had to have been a lemon. Either way, I’m currently happy with my G37, it’s quick enough for my liking even with just Test pipes, intakes, and a grounding kit. Not stopping there though of course.
@@andrewb229you got a 3.7? My 2012 V6 Camry was just totaled and im looking at Infiniti rn, idk which to get a 3.0tt or 3.7. I think i want a 3.7 .
I almost traded in my 2015 3.7 Q40 for a 2017 Red sport … they wanted my car and a $3000 downpayment and $560…..a month with no warranty lmao. With a 737 credit score. I backed out at the last second after signing the papers too lol… realized it wasn’t a good move. Still loving my 3.7 ❤️
Yea dealers out here robbing sometimes …. For a daily my 3.7 is perfect
I got fleeced for mine but Goddam they almost got you 😭
@@itsbigglo5160 - howww? What your story bro
@@dcmasta123 how many miles was on your Q?
Bro I had a 2015 silver q40 I loved that car bro it sounded so much better then any q50 idk if I got my car modded or something tho lol😂 the car came with illegal ass tints..
I still got an old G, but I chose it because it was reliable. The new VR30 in the Qs has a lot of potential and I know how to make it reliable, but more so than being fast, I wanna depend on this car to get me to work and home and wherever else consistently. The VQ37VHR is proven, it has some issues, but if you maintain the car, it will take care of you.
No matter how much power your car has, if it can't run or has a problem, it's meaningless.
I'd take the 330 hp I know I can use everyday vs the potential for 500 hp if it means increased likelihood for problems.
In addition to that, parts are cheaper overall because the VQ been around awhile. Parts for VR30 motors are still rather high as are any fees to have it serviced.
Well said Fam …. VQ all day 💪🏽
If 3.0t had the 3.7 sound it would’ve been more fire 🔥
Then I’ve went 3.0……or if they kept the 3.7 and boosted it 🔥
True
@@Mahamotives they did it with the newer ones I send a 3.7 that was twin turbo
Exactly
If the 3.0t had 3.7s reliability in would of been 🔥🔥🔥 too, even tho im thinking bout to buying a 3.0t 2020 q50💀💀💀
3.7 for life Bro, your list is my list except I chose it for the ease of the manual swap. It’s in the shop right now getting a G37 6MT put in, proving your point of the vast parts bin across so many platforms.
Lmk how it goes and what the total cost is…..definitely considering doing that too
Also curious how much that ran you if you don't mind
Hoping to track mine at the end of the month I expect it be slower than the 7AT but I don’t care, it’s about the fun for me I would rather run a low thirteen than a high 12 to stay competitive
Tbh I wanted a 3.7 at first but I had no choice but to get a vr30 and I’m pretty happy with it. I’ve got 70k miles and it’s been good so far. I think the biggest problem is that you need to change the oil frequently, being it’s a twin turbo with direct injection, Oil gets very dirty and prone to fuel dilution and Nissan recommends 10k miles which is a lot of the reason they have really bad issues. I work at Infiniti and most of the motors we’ve done the oil was sludged so bad that it molded the valve covers.
Very true……..a lot of people do 10k+ on oil changes which can causes damage later on like you said
Oil changes are so cheap I still do every 3k-4k miles for my 3.7 just for peace of mind
I do mine every 4k miles. I take it to infiniti for an oil change. Plus I have the ams heat exchanger. My ride been running nice and smooth at 79k miles
get financed before you go
@@imbrion7981 I second this 👍🏽
Just bought a 3.7 around 50k miles I can’t wait to drive this boy
Nice! Congrats!
For how much and what year when you got it?
I got a 2015 QX50 with the 3.7 & I love it only got a exhaust but for a family daily few bolt ons & lowering it still fun everyday car
I seen some of those modded and they look/sound cleannn
I loved the VQ but then I got into my thirties and no longer care about the sound. My 2012 interior and tech felt dated and it was time to get into a 2020. Never looked back.
3.0t can easily get 500hp tune up and kills anything on the road I got 3.0t as well. I’ve had 370z 3.7 awd q50 but kinda slow 3.0t lunch quicker stock vs stock against 3.7awd q50 ❤️💕
I’m with him never been a turbo fan and if so get top tier gtr no Infinti is getting to that level unless u eating up ur engine
Would u recommend the 370 or the 3.0t q??
You really make me realize that how much I need an exhaust 😩. I don't want to do a POV with that stock sound 🤣.
The only real issue with the newer built VR motor(19,20,21 )is turbo seals. This is usually the issue when you WOT the car without upgrading the heat exchanger. Just buy the Z1 turbos or extend your warranty.
Ngl…the sound is valid ash, I’m fully straight piped with my G37X so I’m hella loud but it honestly does sound like an R35
Appreciate that homie and yea I have a friend with an R35 and side by side is almost identical except obviously without the turbo noises
I got the same whip and any VQ I hear my neck breaks g , q , m , whatever vq sound is so unique love my trumpet 😂
One of the best sounding V6’s fr 💪🏽💪🏽
God damn this man sat at the same light throughout the whole video
Well almost the whole video lol
😂😂😂😂 bro, traffic in my city is getting worse every day now
I wanted a 3.7 for sounds and reliability but I drive a 21 vr30... got it right away lol the torque is nasty. And the very next day I straight piped it and it actually sounds pretty good especially the downshifts🤌🏼
3.0ts have nice potential……and yea 3.0 can get away with straight pipes and still sound good … us 3.7s is rasp/trumpet city if we do that 😂😂
I recently got my q50 3.7 and I'm from psl too!! Your Q50 looks amazing, you earned a new sub here
Appreciate that fam welcome to the channel✊🏽
Is a good car?
Good vid, keep posting mane we need more q50 vq content on yt!!
Appreciate the support fam, definitely got more coming🤙🏽🤙🏽🤙🏽
I have the 3.0T redsport love it but i do worry about the turbo issues and stuff but I'd probably go to a 3.7 since i care for performance but i prefer reliability as well a 3.7 to me sounds better than a 3.0T with CBE
Loved my q50 red sport. But the transmission stopped shifting around 50,000 miles when I would drive it a little hard. Traded in for a 5.0
How you like the 5.0?
5.0 🤮
nice ! i never go for the highest trim , skipped out on the taurus SHO and ended up building a monster e-85 n/a version of it. Buying a 3.7L 15’ q50 awd because i had an 09 g37s x and it was fantastic very agressive . i had a 335i and it was just nightmare after nightmare … twin turbo straight 6.
3.7 never disappoints ✊🏽✊🏽
Same story here in regard to BMW being a nightmare . First, I had a Q50 3.0t which I totaled, then got a 340i with the “coveted” B58. I learned very quickly that no matter how “reliable” German engines got, they sure as hell would still break down a whole lot more than any other manufacturer! After a year and a half of headaches I decided to just sell it and pick up a 2013 G37x. Clocked in at 64k miles now and running strong.
The VQ is supreme
Yessirrr 💪🏽💪🏽
I think turbos are cool but when it comes to maintenance it just makes you turn around 😂. I think the cost of maintaining a 3.0 t q50 is probably much more then the 3.7. Can’t argue with reliability.
Maintenance should be about the same but just that possibility of blowing a motor/turbos/belts on a daily doesn’t sit right with me 😂😂
Loved my Vq had a ‘14 q50 fbo e85 ended up blowin the tranny then got a vr30 ‘20 q60. I hate that I don’t have the sound but all the newer model vr30 have fixed a lot of the issues but when u start pushin 500hp on stocc turbos, upgrading your turbos should be at the top of the list
Yup those tiny turbos aren’t that strong
Imagine they come out with a 3.7t
That would be dope 🔥🔥
My grandma had a 66 original everything and a 54 Ford. She gave them to my little brother. He had the scrap yard come after them. What a loss. Yeah he was in prison lost his inheritance. He thought he was owed something.
Damn man
Knock on wood I’m at 77.0s n no issues had it since 10 os. Haven’t lost a run yet..
bro u passed near my gma house i think i seen yo car up there in crosstown but im thinking of getting the vr30 mostly because of the turbos but i fw your Q🔥
Eyyyy appreciate the support fam ✊🏽✊🏽✊🏽✊🏽
a lot of the VR30 info is outdated now. I mean yeah, here and there might experience an unlucky issue with it but hell, even early GTRs had trans issues and other stuff. I know its just about why you chose 3.7, but I really dont wanna see people get discouraged to buy the VR30 since that's nissan's new direction. I want my boys to stay in business lol A lot of these problems have been corrected already and honestly, we all know that with aftermarket support, youll get more and more realibility out of these cars no matter what.
but awesome car and looooove the exhaust man
I just hope they fixed all those issues with the 400z. I know too many VR30 owners personally that all had problems.
I’ve had my q50 3.0t almost 2 years now bought it 30k miles and now sitting at 78k miles. No issues whatsoever and maintained it on time. The 370z on other hand has valve cover issue lat of the time oil leaks and miss fire all the time common problems with vq 3.7. I had 370z 6 speed manual. since 2015 up until it got hit 2021 and switch to q50 3.7 awd s. Quick car but over all 3.0t is the one for me.
ik you were cheesing too when that redsport pulled up
Just got a right hand drive VQ35 sedan and it’s mad fun. Cheers
RHD ?? Nice !!!
got a question for ya im thinking of getting a 3.7 but idk if i should get a lower mileage one (40k) or save some money and get a higher mileage one (80-100k)
Depends on the car itself….bought mine with 85k because everything was documented on the history report, all services were done by the dealer. And my actual mechanic got it in at his dealership so he was able to inspect everything for me beforehand. No accident and clean history. Always best to try and get a low mileage car but if you find one with higher miles, just make sure it’s clean. Hire a mechanic to inspect it if you have to.
What did you do step by step to buy the car. Cash or Loan and if it was a loan what was your credit score, how much, how much you pay a month for loan and insurance. How many miles you buy it at, any down payment? What type of bank did you go through regular or a credit union. I’m only asking because I’m looking to get one and my first newer car. I just wanna make sure I’m set and know what to do when getting one. Love your build and sound bro❤
My first car was actually a 2013 Honda accord 4 cylinder that my father gave me after hs, I did small mods to do but I really wanted a Q50 once I started looking into them. I ended up trading my Accord for the Q50 at my friends dealership bc he knew I was looking for one and the remaining balance was around 7-8k so I ended up just paying it off at once so I didn’t have any payments. I got my Q for around 13k out the door with 85k miles clean title, no accidents all services done by the dealer … but keep in mind the was right before Covid and prices were A LOT lower. It’s honestly about timing and making sure you’re ready when that time comes, financially. Save your money for a down payment if it’s your first car. And try to get the lowest rate possible. Appreciate the support fam ✊🏽
i’m looking forward for a 3.7 Q50. i hear they are pretty reliable bc i got other stuff i wanna achieve and with a audi or vr30. i know it’s money after money for those cars
ik the 3.7 is known for the valve body failure, just wondering how many miles you have and if you ever had that issue?
My valve body went out around 90k miles…. No issues after the replacement just make sure you get it done with oem new replacement from the dealer
Mine went out at just over 50k miles. It was almost 4000 to fix. Thank god I bought the warranty. Only cost me 100 dollar deductible
built VQ with ProCharger supercharger
Just picked up a 2015 3.7 q50s , 87k miles, I’m paranoid of previous owners, what would you recommend I do for maintenance
Oil change, spark plugs, and coil packs
whats the diffrence between q50 3.7 sport and premium
Sport has sport bumper, sport 19” wheels, real leather seats, paddle shifters, and Akebono big brakes, but mechanical/engine wise everything is the exact same.
Hey Maha what’s all the mods you currently have on the car performance wise
Check out one of my recent videos here
th-cam.com/video/YMEIJ-Gbocc/w-d-xo.html
so a vq 37 is the natural aspirated one and the vr30 is the turbo one?
Correct
I hear u for your reason but I think ur biggest reason was the price jus my opinion then your reasons follow my boy has both with bolt ins and it’s night and day the 2016 3.0t facelift and handles way better than the previous yr. The 3.0t is a fn beast when tuned fbo your talkin hellcat territory on the highway but to each there own nice car btw
Yup all personal preference, appreciate the kind words fam 🙏🏽
i was offered a 2014 q50 3.7 for 13k 150k miles looked in good condition should i pull the trigger? how long do these motors normally last with good maintenance?
The 3.7s made after 2012 are bulletproof. Will last forever with 5k mile synthetic oil changes and other fluids. Pre 2012 3.7s have potential Gallery Gasket failure causing oil leaks inside the timing cover. Then again, I have a 2009 G37 with 160k+ miles on it's original Gallery Gaskets and it's not showing any signs of issues. Just check for evidence of maintenance and rust for the 2014 Q50... U won't be dissappointed
As he said above ….. keep up on the maintenance…full synthetic oil change every 5k miles, 91 or above octane fuel only, use oem parts when swapping stuff like coil packs, spark plugs, ect. And the car will last very long….seen some 3.7s on the fb page well above 200k miles no issues
for real i bought my 2014 Q50s at the end of last summer with around only 20-25k miles on it at the time (45 000 km), only downside is that I have rust on the subframe and under the car but I will get it fixed up, and most probably sandblasted and treated for rust protection, because I live in Quebec, Canada and we got salty winters and it had completely destroyed my factory exhaust so now I run catless downpipes and a full custom 3,5 inch exhaust with resonators and mufflers, I had no choice because everything was rusted out on my factory exhaust😅 but we are good now, waiting for a tune soon and I will be back in business and even stronger than before, i’m now at around 30k miles on it and I freaking love this car, and the sound is crazy when you get the right exhaust setup for it, it has such a deep resonated tone🔥🔥
2019+ mostly everything is worked out. Might have an occasional belt issue
if you don’t mind me askin.. how much was it to fix it the valve body..I’m debating on upgrading the G35 to the 3.7 or js goin 3.0t.. my cousin got a red sport and he says it’s been doin him good.. but I’m js nervous that the turbos are going to blow🤦🏾♂️ lmk
Valve body cost me 3,500 from the dealer with install
Bro I have have 2014 premium 3.7 copped it at 34k now I’m at 57k still runs solid . But should I switch out my spark plugs ?
Depends on how it’s running……if it’s running perfect don’t change it. I changed mine around 100k miles which is around the average time you should change it if you’re stock…..if you’re tuned and running the flame map a lot then swap the plugs more frequently
3.7 with built motor and top mount single turbo or go with q50 3.0t with similar mods e85 new turbos???
Going for daily-ish/dig/roll "race car"
Dollars per horsepower…3.0t will be more cost efficient and get you to higher hp for less. VQ will cost more to build for little gains but will be more reliable at the end of the day if you do it correctly with the supporting mods
@@Mahamotives I am going for 800 hp and 6/700 of torque
Will it be cheaper to go with a 3.7 and do all the work that’s need to hold that power or just go with a 3.0t and go all out on that?
@@mehdibourkiza2486 for those numbers go 3.0t or even better save for a GTR
@@mehdibourkiza2486 you’ll have to swap the trans with a 3.0t trans or even manual from a 370z, to even handle the power on a 3.7
What did you end up getting?
Vr30 easy choice
Thanks for the good video, im going to get a q50 but in my case im between the 3.7 and the hybrid 3.5, what do you think of the 3.5?
3.5 hybrids are bosses off the line…they pull harder from a dig than both 3.7 and 3.0 bc of that electric motor … just bare in mind if that hybrid battery goes out, it’s pretty expensive to replace and you basically have no trunk space bc of the battery … just have money saved up for that replacement …. And tuning options are limited with the hybrid … I’m not too sure if tuners are able to tune the 3.5
Just picked up a 3.7 what should I do first to make it sound better
I personally did a muffler delete and kept everything else stock for a while until I saved up for a full exhaust and test pipes
@@Mahamotives cool thanks man
So if I do a 3.7 how long is that motor gonna last me for? I’m not wanting anything fast or to mod it fast a just want a nice luxary reliable daily
I’ve seen these motors reach well above 200k miles …. All depends how well maintained the car was kept, oil change, plugs, ect. Keep on top on maintenance and it should last a good amount of time
Been debating on getting the 3.7 or 3.0 just not sure because I do want to do performance upgrades but only to 500whp, do you think the 3.7 would be the better choice?
You won’t see 500 hp on 3.7 unless you go forced induction……3.0t will cost a lot less to hit 500…..just FBO tune e85 on 3.0 you’re at 500 or close to it
You give up reliability when you go 3.0 vs 3.7 though
@@Mahamotives in the vr community how is the reliability on MOST vr30's youve seen? i have a 70mm on my 3.8 and just recenetly got into an accident. looking at some q50's. theres a redsport for 24k near me im looking at. I see a lot of issues with the turbos.

@@210_bk2- turbos go out usually around 100,000 miles or less.. just be prepared bro to give dealership that bag. I can’t afford a red sport maintenance every few months or keep changing turbos so I have my 3.7 still

Does your car have the paddle shifters?
I installed paddle shifters… it didn’t come stock with it
Sound I get the 3.7 awd q50 or the rwd ? 2015 any recommendations?
RWD you’ll be able to do a burnout/slide the car (have more fun)….if you live somewhere where it snows, definitely AWD but you won’t be able to do a burnout without disabling AWD system ( Not safe don’t recommend) …. Also keep in mine you’ll have to tune on a AWD dyno or get street tuned if you plan on increasing performance … also you can’t lower your car too much on AWD suspension…..axels tend to snap over time and you might also get vibrations after lowering
The 3.7 is rwd only right?
They come in AWD too but kinda harder to find
@@MahamotivesI mean…the G37X are AWD
