What the hell? I haven't heard Rare Earth in over 30 years. What is wrong with oldies radio stations. They never play this. MY GOD, they were the best. Great memories. "I just want to celebrate another day of living!" And, that is precisely why they hide this band.
Sorry but finding the real good stuff on mainstream oldies stations is nearly non existent. They play the same old stuff and don't go outside their 2000 title playlist. Heck I never even hear "Get Ready" which they took to #4 and of course this went to #7. Thank goodness I have all my vinyl and put onto CD.
As a teenager I would load up my GE Wildcat portable record player and All my 45's when heading out to my friend's slumber parties. I never left home without Rare Earth. What a group! What Music! What a great time to be alive!! Karen Stojack your parties were epic! Let's All go back to the 70's!
I wish tunes like these were played on the radio. What’s the deal? All I can think is that young people decide what was best from back when the music was mind blowing. They are absolutely clueless. Thank goodness for the internet. It has breathed life back into so many of these great songs.
It does sound good in stereo. Other people, however prefer the original mono single, as that was the way they first heard this hit on the radio back in 1970. I particularly heard it a lot on CKLW and WKNR, being a Michigan record collector.
Summertime spent picking berries beans ect..listening to the a.m. radio rocking right along❤️👍back in the 70's Picking berries and such paid for school clothes, mainly if you wanted to something that was special to you you had to earn it
Back in the day all we had was transistor radios or eventually the trusty alarm clock radio. In my head I was seeing a Black R&B group here. My jaw dropped when I eventually saw them a couple of decades later. Cool.
First time I heard, Rare Earth, was their twenty - minute song, 'Get Ready,' loved it, and had it the next day. There are three whitey Bands that claim they were the first to play the, 'Apollo Theater' 'Rare Earth,' was one of them. I would like to think it was, 'Rare Earth' the Audience cheered for after the twenty minute iconic cut, "Get Ready."
@@jimearnest4342 Nope, you're wrong. Motown signed three all white bands before Rare Earth (Wiki it). What it is, is that Rare Earth was the first white Motown band to chart any hits.
I'm 61. I wish I could forget my past. I miss the 70's so much it haunts me. The music, cars, my GF's, my bands. I can tell you every GF I had from the most popular song of a band. I hate the 90's till now.
I was raised on this shit. Daddy was a coniseur of the finer music. Tie died sheets on every wall, beads in every doorway, psychedelic lights activated by whatever music was playing. This is one of the theme songs of my life
There music was one of a kind. A combination of hard rock and soul music together (perhaps that's why Motown signed them and even gave the label their own name) Pete Rivera's voice hasn't changed much in 53 years. He is very gifted.
Remember this tune on my transistor radio and the school bus back at Otis AFB Cape Cod MA - WMEX AM 1510 Boston - THE STATION that played the best music of our day.
Saw them live at Miami marine Stadium in 71 0r 72 - The band was playing on a barge and concert goers were diving in the water to get to the stage. Fire Marshalls shutdown the show -it sucked cause they were playing great and the crowd was into it.
Back in this late-60s/early-70s era, many songs had extended jams, often to show-off their musical chops. But many of these long songs lacked focus and punch. Or got boring . Often though, more concise was the key. Which resulted in a great, hot, radio hit single.
Stereo 45 version from Holland. It's impossible to edit the LP version. One Fine Morning from Lighthouse is also impossible to edit. It's also an alternative stereo mix.

the summer of 1970 what a great time for music.
The voice. The percussion. The effects. Cool vibe.
Believe it or not, I prefer this version over the long version.
So do I!
I do as well!
Amen.
The extended ( jam//live ) song is too slow to develop.
This Juke box brief has immediate Punch ..
This has some good vocals that are not included on the long version.
WORD...!!!
The music of this era is the greatest of all time IMO.
Love those electric guitar riffs! Brilliant!

Lots of “young people” are here and discovering great music too 😉
Still my favourite version after over 50 years.
Best version of this song right here! Stereo makes all the difference.

Rod Stewart does a good job of it but "Rare Earth" rules on this bad-ass song.😊
Summertime spent picking berries beans ect..listening to the a.m. radio rocking right along❤️👍back in the 70's
Picking berries and such paid for school clothes, mainly if you wanted to something that was special to you you had to earn it
This band is so underrated.

Back in the day all we had was transistor radios or eventually the trusty alarm clock radio. In my head I was seeing a Black R&B group here. My jaw dropped when I eventually saw them a couple of decades later. Cool.

First time I heard it was in the night. It puts the listener in special mood when listening at night. Mesmerizing. What a great song this is.

Ditto. These times in comparison to the Seventies are simply unlivable.

I loved these guys.
This is the version of this song I was looking for. I subbed
WoW wee what a wonderful song!
Better than the original ! The 11 minute version is well-worth a listen.
I agree
The a capella intro on the single sounds much better than the instruments mixed in.
Harry Canary, no, it’s not.
Phenomenal to hear this again! Pete Rivera, what a voice. And Gil Bridges what a cutie pie. Just sayin
Creía que Rare Earth era solo "get ready", me alegro estar equivocado. Buen músicon.
great song, long time ago it was.
The Temptation version was great but I like this one better.

Actually it's a totally different recording from a holland import stereo 45. Very cheap and easy to find.
One of the few groups where the drummer was the lead singer.

Many times, when a once popular band is not played, it has to do with a legal dispute over royalties 😮

Most radio stations were reluctant to play a song longer than a set amount of minutes in the 60’s and into the early 70’s.
Your love is fading!
Catch the wave! *holds a Pepsi can*
*hums the Clutch Cargo theme tune* I still see the X!
2022 Strong 👉🏿
Makes me want to go out and buy a Kit and microphone and learn to be Peter Riviera the 2nd. But I am 65 years young and can't do this at this time....

This isn't the 45 version, it's an edited version of the LP. I guess it's been lost? there's a bunch of 45 Radio versions that were never saved.....
Stereo 45 version from Holland. It's impossible to edit the LP version. One Fine Morning from Lighthouse is also impossible to edit. It's also an alternative stereo mix.
No offense. Just for reference.
