The Ed Sullivan Show was a television variety program that aired on CBS from 1948-1971. For 23 years it aired every Sunday night and played host to the world's greatest talents. The Ed Sullivan Show is well known for bringing rock n' roll music to the forefront of American culture through acts like Elvis Presley, The Beatles, and The Rolling Stones. The entertainers each week ranged from comedians like Joan Rivers and Rodney Dangerfield, to Broadway stars Julie Andrews and Richard Burton, to pop singers such as Bobby Darin and Petula Clark. It also frequently featured stars of Motown such as The Supremes, The Temptations, Stevie Wonder and The Jackson 5. The Ed Sullivan Show was one of the only places on American television where such a wide variety of popular culture was showcased and its legacy lives on to this day.

      # 1 Rare Earth fan here but there may be a few new kids on the block that still play arse kicking rock n roll. They’re not Rare Earth Style but still make me play them over and over and they are: Black Stone Cherry and Joyous Wolf doing a very impressive versions
of Mountains Mississippi Queen. There might be some new light at the end of tunnel for old rockers like us. I always listen to bands incorporate their own versions of time less hits, most fail. These two bands are “ NO JOKE “ I’m 71 yrs old still playing guitar professionally, I’ve seen em all. These guys are great

Sullivan's ratings went sky high after he started having rock and roll acts on his show. While they may not have been his cup of tea I think he realized times and tastes were changing in the late 1950s and throughout the 60s. so he went along and had many acts on his show.

Sullivan's final season on the air. When rock and roll came along and he started having such acts on his shows in 1956 his ratings shot thru the roof.
Lead singer Peter Rivera was recently on Mike Huckabee's show and his voice hasn't changed much in 53 years. A gift for sure. This is rock and roll how we remember it.
Later this song would reach #7 on the Billboard charts.

Peter Rivera told me once that he was within seconds of missing His cue on Ed Sullivan to get on stage. He told me he was going to the bathroom when the stagehands were already pushing the risers out on stage for the performance. They were knocking on the bathroom door going “Peter, get the hell out there you’re supposed to be on stage now!” Riviera literally had to run across the ice and jump onto the riser before the song started. Like literally seconds before the song started

What group is Peter playing with ? Is it a regular band or a Rare Earth type band ? A big thank you to anyone that can hopefully answer this question. As far as his voice is concerned it was the most powerful in his era and probably still today. No screeching, screaming or gimmicks, just pure, plain unadulterated rock n roll. A drummer that could belt it out and still keep perfect time. A rarity then and non-existant today.

I Live this Band! I got to see them in a pasture field when they played I Iowa! It was a bit drizzling and a little cold. I had a big box of the giant garbage bags and I shared with all who needed one. I met a girl around my age who was naked. That bag warmed her up and then we got into my car and I took her to safety. What a party it was in that field with all these bands playing!!!

Agree, I think that the vocals are live, but clearly the guitar is not. No wah pedal on stage, yet we hear the wah. Guitarist's chord/arm movements don't match what we are hearing. Likely bass and sax are also not live.

The choreography is stunning and the costuming is Oscar-worthy. And, to put them on ice is pure genius! Hey Ed, how about just putting the performers out there and letting them do their thing. At least they didn't put one of those lava lamp kaleidoscope lenses on the camera -- that week, anyway.
