For ten thousand years Cadia has stood firm against the horrors spewed forth by the Eye of Terror. There are no records of how many valiant souls have fallen defending the fortress worlds of the Cadian Gate - but by their sacrifice, the tide of horror stemmed. But there is no sacrifice big enough to stop what is coming.
Abaddon has unleashed the full might of his thirteenth Black Crusade and little hope remains. On Cadia itself, Ursarkar Creed and manifold Imperial forces mount a desperate defence, and they are soon to be joined by the strangest and most powerful of allies. Their arrival spurs a chain of events that will change things forever - the pylons will fall, the Eye will open, and a storm will come.

*Proceeds to burst into tears of rage, sadness, and pride at the deaths and strength of cadia.*
Astartes are also known to straight up KILL anyone that speaks badly about Cadians in their presence. There are two that I know of in short stories. One was a Space Wolf that straight up snapped the neck of an Inquisitor mid sentence for calling the Cadians weak. Another was a Black Templar that cut a General's head off for speaking badly about Cadia.
They won't put up with anyone speaking badly about the guard in general, but speaking badly about Cadia is a death sentence when in the presence of an Astartes.
@@Nempo13 Do you happen to remember the names of the stories?
I really would love to read lore about marines showing actual appreciation and respect for the people they were made to protect.
As imperium vessels watched the planet crack into bits, red lines stretched across the planet and reached into the sky.

My favorite detail about the fall of Cadia is the guardsmen being flown to safety on the shuttles reported seeing fighting on the PIECES of Cadia that were being blown away and pulled into the warp Cadians refused to give up as their planet was literally cracking up beneath them.
"Sit rep, Lance-corporal"
"Well, our platoon is gone, our unit is under manned, most of us are walking wounded, the planet beneath our feet is now many asteroids, our lack of air support has now transitioned into a lack of space daring support, the atmosphere will completely run out in 90 seconds, we're surrounded by Abaddon's forces not just north to south, west to east but up and down as well, said asteroid we are on is falling into the Eye of Terror and we're down to three crates of lasgun ammunition."
"You know what that sounds like?"
"We're in a target rich environment, Sir?"
"Correct, Lance-corporal. Continue firing at the enemy! CADIA STILL STANDS. FOR THE EMPEROR!"
The planet broke before the guard, and this is the last bit of proof needed to confirm that.
The Planet broke before the gaurd
How much you wanna bet there are pieces of cadia in the warp with platoons still actively fighting on them?
@@neonwalker3223 Oh I'm a full believer Abaddon fucked up. A billion souls got thrown into the warp, where all that matters is willpower, screaming with their last breath that they'd keep fighting no matter what. I 100% believe there are a billion saints in the warp right now. The Legion of the Damned are the Emperor's demon Astartes. Cadians are his demon army.
Abaddon and his crusade here is basically the meme "Task failed Successfully"
The Fall of Cadia really be "Man loses everything for little gain."
little detail:
the pylons are from necron origin. They are made of blackstone, a material that can be "polarized" when managing the warp
- increase the warp's energies (blackstone fortress's warp cannons)
- pylons on Cadia when repeling the eye of terror
meanwhile admiral spire in the warp and Cawl actually considered kill Creed if he didnt agreed to let the mechanicus study the pylons
Admiral Spire planning to kill Creed? Hmm I haven't read that

Fall of Cadia, or how Abaddon learned to stop losing and love winning
Until he lost again
How Abaddon learned to stop losing and crashed the Blackstone Fortress.
Abandon the crybaby
How it took Abaddon 10,000 years to do what Horus did in 7 years.
« CADIA STAND» Jokes aside, what Abaddon achieve during the fall of cadia was well lets be honest a phyric victory. A.K.A it was not worth it. I mean yeah sure he broke a key strategic point for the imperium, but at a cost way to high:
Kamikazing the Blackstone fortress for one planet was beyond any logic, the thing could have definitly destroyed many other imperial worlds or even space marine chapters but nah let waste it on ONE PLANET. Blackstone Fortress are relic of the past and thus quite the rarety. Abaddon can't just snap his finger to make one pop out of nowhere?
Cadia survive: If abaddon was truly victorious, no Cadian would be left alives, and by that i mean the one that would still be willing to fight. Many of theses guys evacuated the planets and they will form new regiments by sharing cadian war doctrine.
To put it simply, he broke a wall, but ''unfortuantely for him'', there is still a thousand walls behind said wall, and like the moron that he is he somehow wasted all his demolition charge on the first one, wich he should have use to pulverise the rest.

To be fair this is the *40k: Battle Royal* episode
To be fair, I think Creed being in Trazyn's vault is, narratively, less of a fate of eternal imprisonment and more of a way for the writers to stash him away until needed.
I expect him to pop up with utmost tactical genius when he'll be needed - and when Trazyn's interests would be best served by releasing him, of course.
And he’ll use his old Tactical Genius ability to pull an entire armored company of tanks out from behind a tree.
Considering that we have Creed's daughter in the game right now, it either means we'll see him soon, or it means we wont see him again for AGES, and I'm honestly not too sure which it is...
When Trazyn lets him out of his pokeball, there will inexplicably be an entire regiment in there. Trazyn didn't put them in there, and Creed isn't talking.

The Imperium's finest hour. It was a defeat unlike any before or since but they still stand even in the wake of the Eye of Terror ripping the galaxy in half.
It was a FLATTERING defeat. Can't take that from em.
It didn’t take long for Cadia to fall. Our enemy was ruthless, efficient… but they weren’t nearly fast enough. For you had already passed the torch, and with it we found Yvraine. Revived Guilliman, shattered our enemy’s resolve. Our victory, your victory. Was so close, I wish you could have lived to see it. But you belong to Cadia, your body, your armor. All burned and turned to glass. Everything, except your courage, that you gave to us, and with it we can rebuild.

“Give thanks men! To Ursarkar Creed and the Cadian Guard!! To VICTORY!!!”
I got fucking chills.
Yeah the most tear jerking moment of the Fall of Cadia is; as the shuttles were flying away, Creed and the entire Cadian 8th stayed behind, still holding the line. Hell in the Cadia Stands novel the evacuation of the planet was just heartbreaking, where none of the remaining Cadian officers realized Creed was still on-planet until they were high up in orbit, even Creed's staunchest rivals admitted that he was literally the one driving figure that had been keeping them united. Where because of the planet breaking apart, some regiments were either completely cut off from their evacuation sites, some had to abandon their gear and got ambushed by the Iron Warriors. Even more Guardsmen were basically abandoned because of the landers being 'full', some of the evacuation shuttles got shot down trying to escape the planet, and even worse were the landers who tried going back for more Cadians they'd left, only to never return.

that needs to be made an animation. An alpha legion in a box. I can imagine a loyalist marine cranking a jack in the box and an alpha legionaire pops out with a bolter shooting the loyalist. "Pop goes the loyalist"
as someone who was going into this blind, the whole time I was sitting here just expecting Bricky to just say "And then the Tyranids showed up"
With the way things were going, when these books were being published, we expected the Tyranids to be joining in at the last minute
"And then the Tyranids showed up and began nomming everyone. Abbadon broke a nail and left."
Shy's humor is reaching its peak!
Dude I honestly feel like Shy is the responsible older sister/mom of the group with a serious but subtle sense of humor.
Bricky is the more chaotic older brother who’s somewhat wise also somewhat know it all who’s always getting into trouble.
And DK is the somewhat more humble, less knowledgeable, more innocent younger brother.
Seriously love the podcast, each of you guys are great in your own way. Keep it up.
Okay. I thought I had a kinda good idea of what went down on Cadia. But hearing that Trazyn threw goddamn pokeballs containing Inquisitors, Ultramarines and a Custodian that he stole was the funniest thing I've heard in a while.
IS "THEY" ALL I AM TO YOU
I AM THE FIRST HIGH LORD OF ADEPTUS RIDICULOUS AND ALL I GET IS "THEY"???
i acknowledge your existence
9:16
Bricky: "Im sure Shy will provide supplementary imagery"
Shy: *posts dog stuck in toilet*
1:22:00 Honestly, if the Imperium won that day and the Necron pylons activated, the Eye of Terror would've been shrunk down. Considerably. If not collapsed entirely.
Just imagine the rage of the Chaos Gods for losing their cosmic peep-hole and the daemon primarchs getting their daemon planets destroyed.
THAT would have been the big failure that would get Abaddon turned into a chaos spawn.
The cadia stands meme came out at such a fun time for me because I love the imperial guard lore and it's so good to see them get a spiritual strengthening note. It also was funny seeing the toxic chaos players (not all of them) at my local store fumming like big babies over a meme
Cadia Stands and Failbaddon the Armless are two phrases that regularly annoy the crap out of Chaos players.
Trazyn Just went full on "maybe i dont wanna be the bad guy anymore"
The enemy of my enemy is another for my collection
9:45 The Maelstrom, Storm of the Emperor's Wrath, and the other major Warp storms: "Are we a fucking joke to you?"
12:53 Whenever troop/ship/anything numbers are mentioned in 40K, just add zeroes until the number seems the most appropriate for you. Terra has a population of numerous quadrillions according to the Watchers of the Throne novels, which seems reasonable. Another good example is how in the Fall of Cadia cinematic of BFG Armada II, you can see literal swarms of Imperial and Chaos ships duking it out, enough to make the official numbers for the battle of Coruscant seem paltry in comparison.
15:31 Kreig" You gotta pump those numbers up. Those are rookie numbers."
Cadia was also first discovered by the Imperium when Lorgar went on his pilgrimage to find Chaos. The neighboring Scarus sector is also named in honor of one of the fallen Word Bearers captains that was with him. Perturabo was the one who coined the term "Eye of Terror", too since he could see it from anywhere in the galaxy since infancy.
20:12 **Loud background Salamanders and Sosoritas noises intensify**
22:02 So something like this continuously for a few months? th-cam.com/video/gmtk3Kcs_b0/w-d-xo.html
44:40 The initial battle probably looked something like this: www.deviantart.com/martechi/art/Death-of-the-Garden-Crusade-Impressions-184-848324873
1:01:43 and for all their effort, the Ruinous powers somehow managed to open the Cicatrix a whole 50 degrees off course. The original plan was to have the Warp overtake a direct passage to Terra and overwhelm it.
1:08:36 The new Blackstone books and game states that there is an internal chamber in the fortress over a hundred miles across, and some people calculated the entire fortress to be around 900+ km in size. The Phalanx had been attacked by a fuckoff-hueg daemonic incursion and thus they had to self-destruct a lot of their own weapons to prevent Chaos from taking over it. So the Phalanx, heavily damaged, daemon0infested, and with only like 10% of its weapons functioning, wipes the fucking floor with the Blackstone fortress. also, the size of a moon would be better for the phalanx, it literally has internal storage hangars and chapels so large that unique species and ecosystem with their own climates exist in them.
Robotnik is a Tech Priest. He literally tries to turn all living creatures into machines. You know what that means? We need a reading of a 40k Sonic crossover fanfic.
no.
Sonic himself is an ork. A speed freek.
God, he even wears red! It makes so much sense now!
BROOOOOO NO FREAKING WAY
That would be more Slaaneshi Filth than actual proper FanFiction......
Imagine if you will; An Alpha Legion list that involves arriving with no models. Then spending your remaining points in set amounts to roll dice against your opponent for THEIR units.
You might turn more or less units so your infiltration might go hilariously bad and you all get gunned down like caught spies, or turn into a last stand for the other guy as 60% of his army turns on him and starts dumping shells on their 'own men'.
It's a fun house rule that belongs in an era of Ork Lootas taking other armies' literal weapon options and Iron Warrior Basilisks.
That sounds very fun
Ork lootas is an amazing house rule. We allowed it in the war games where you had 6+ players on one board.
People on the top of the eye of terror: oh no we can’t get help from the emperor what’s worse.
Tyranids: yum easy meal 🤩
I think the reason why people see Abbadon throwing the black fortress is that he didn't necessarily know the pylons were there. So in hindsight yeah, solid S-tier tactics, but in the moment it's just being petty and getting rid of a really huge asset on a gamble.
I love how DK calls the Alpha Legion the Iron Legion and Shy puts up Perturabo because it reminds me as much as people talk about the Alpha Legion being forgot, Iron Hands are perpetually cursed with being overshadowed or mistaken for the Iron Warriors.
As an Iron Warriors player, Iron Legion, sounds pretty sick.
We can fix Cadia my fellow guardsmen we just need the ancient tech from man kinds golden era, the tech was call duuktap and supahgloo. We must go on a great crusade to find them, come brothers we must journey for Cadia!
To show YOU the power of flex tape!
@@awesomeonejess "To show you the power of Flex Tape I sawed this planet in half, and fixed it using only the power of Flex Tape!" To be fair, Flex Tape would be a more effective binding agent than the tears of salty Guardsmen.
Imagine if 40K people found some ancient joke and took it literally and actually thought that duct tape is some ancient super material
@@Ake-TL i can see this working with Orkz or the Sisters. Also, funny how a Mask Boy made a joke about Cadia. Are there amy rivalries between the Guard regiments?
@@sparking023 catachans and any high subordination regiment, Krieg and regiments less willing to die( basically almost everyone else), no one likes Savlarians because they steal supplies
Living on Cadia might suck, but being there means Slaanesh was ironically encouraging the guardsmen to constantly make more guardsmen.
I believe most of the guardsmen are not produced by conventional means. They could never meet the quota if they actually had to wait 9 months for them to pop out and then another 10 years until they can hold a weapon...
@@Yamato12345666cadia practically lacked a civilain population in addition to sending guardsmen to war at 14
"Oh this here? Only my 1st edition Lord castellan Creed, with authentic battle damage!!" - Some Robodude
If the Italian Word Bearers meme doesn't spread through the 40k fandom, we have failed as a community.
Makes me think; isn't the Vatican located in Italy?
I just realized creed is just the guardsmen equivalent of Detective Columbo
He's a messy, short, disheveled individual who, in spite of his appearance is the best in the business and is able to outsmart people with more much more resources and preparation than him due to sheer level of intellect and skill that everyone underestimates upon meeting him.
Who is that?
Recently discovered this awesome podcast.
Love listening to it while assembling/painting minis.
I love the line "The planet broke before the guard did...the ones shot by commissars don't count."
Found these guys by accident and I just love how excited bricky gets explaining this.
I’m not gonna lie, I was starting to get a bit of tears in my eyes when Creed was sacrificing himself to get the Guard off Cadia.
Also: was the Vengeful Spirit destroyed when Abadon rammed it into the BSF?
@Kodiak KDK-85X thanks.
No I’m pretty sure that the Vengeful Spirit wasn’t used to ram the BSF, so it’s still around.
For a while I didn’t know that Shy was mute, I just assumed she was so sassy she never spoke during the podcasts
Fall of Cadia, or how Abbadon finally managed to take down 1 important imperial world after 13 black crusades after 10k years.
To bad he lost a majority of his forces and a Blackstone fortress in the process.
Abbadon is truly a master of failing upwards xD
Well at least now the Daemon Primarchs are around to give Chaos some real wins
@@zenoblues7787 Or at least two of them, anyway.
Kinda feel bad for abby, he finally manages to squeeze a win by taking cadia with insane casualties and he gets lucky enough to somehow trigger the rift only to piss of the imperium to the point where they let cawl do his primaris shit, revive ultraman, even start having a better relation with the necrons and eldar and fix the golden throne so it won't become the eye of terror 2, next up is waking up tye lion, and getting mortarion to take a bath
@@mrminecraftcubeable Abbadon will be fine, he's been doing his thing this entire time scratching out his own wins at the expense of his allies. With the daemon primarchs and ultraman now around, its perfect time for Abbadon to retreat into the shadows to work on the next big move while the Imperium focuses on the Daemon Primarchs and trying to reach the dark imperium.
@yossarian idk man ghaz IS the prophet of Gork and Mork, the most brutal and cunnin gods. I think he might just win
Trazyn : Hippity Hoppity, you are now my property
Creed : *Visually Dissapointed*
I see Abaddon's victory as a big apocalypse game but is not going his way that he wanted, then he sees that his losing bad, he then starts a temper tantrum and just flips the table and all the minis goes flying everywhere and he just screams he won.
The fall of Cadia. The book that glorifies almost every faction marines, necrons and a bunch of others and leaves the good old guard mostly behind, all things considered.
The book about the fall of the Guard, that is basically about everything except the guard. xD
That's why we have the book cadia stands
The fact that Bricky is scared of anime yet constantly makes amungos jokes makes me fucking I L L.
@Videoms There is a massive difference between anime and worship, heretic.
@Videoms Wtf
''The Planet guard before the broke '' - Cadian guard soldier after the battle of Cadia
He's a little confused, but he's got the right idea.
@@Zaprozhan must be an orgrum
After watching this I feel that the saying "The Planet Broke Before The Guard Did" is sooo much more metal and badass
Read the Book
The Gathering Storm Book 1: Fall of Cadia for more better experience
I saw this from another comment on a video of the same subject-- Abaddon did originally intend to capture Cadia and make it his prize (as Bricky mentioned, Cadia was a bastion of humanity, a physical testament to the strength of the imperium in the face of literal hell itself) but then the Eye of Terror started closing, and he basically had a straight-up panic attack. The closure of the Eye of Terror would have spelt doom for literally every chaos world that was sustained by the Warp flowing through it, which would have been a serious, serious blow to chaos (hell, it may have resulted in their ultimate defeat) and so he made the choice (the only choice, really) to destroy the planet entirely rather than let Chaos fall.
The planet broke before the guard did indeed.
FINALLY, AN EPISODE WHERE BRICKY TELLS US WHAT THE NEXT ONE IS
its been a thing for the past 3 episodes
@@Adeptusridiculous Considering bricky's feelings towards the wall of guns, I do not count them in my mind
Any other greybeards out there with fond memories of the summer campaign of '03? Yep, most of this was fought by the PLAYERS! I remember plotting out strategies with the others on the message boards about the most efficient ways to fight our battles. Sending "spies" into the opposing camps to learn their plans. The shock when the Blackstone Fortress came into play. Good times.
It would be amazing to see a summary or record of this :D
The fact GW forced the loss was rather...ruining to the experience though. After the Warhammer Fantasy fail they had they just plain forced it on this run.

the reason why Cadia stood for so long is cause the Black Templar reinforced it after the horus heresy
Cadia might have needed more fortifications.
