Thanks for sharing! I really enjoy seeing all the changes that our arcade hardware went through in the late 90s before transitioning to console-based in the early to middle 2000s.
going to have to remember that how often things break quip. really want to go try that game out. love the fatalities. really neat stuff. i have zero actual arcade boards. that board booting is really cool i cant imagine trying to fix them.
Kinda funny to imagine how the MiSTer main processor can replicate these kind of hardware stacks for ultra-specific arcade games. It's nothing short of magic.
Interesting. I would not have guessed that this was a 3DFX board since it doesn't have that smeary N64 look that most glide games from the late 90s had and looks closer to a PSX game. Seeing all of the chips on that board though really brings me back to working with computers at the time (and even had a Voodoo 1).
These are insane, I'd love to watch a full repair attempt. Getting into collecting arcade boards seems really fun, but the prices are way too much sometimes...
Popular boards just really hold their value. These boards are basically “free” because nobody cares but me and like a handful of other people and we all seem to know each other
arcade machines are no joke, i feel for you! i had to demolish a £800 arcade machine because i couldn't fix it and couldn't find anyone who would repair it. heartbreaking!!!
@@VideoGameEsoterica Pandoras boxes are easily available, no need to fix just replace it, they are reasonably cheap less than 100 bucks. The guy did the right thing to get rid if it as he doesn't have the required number of brain cells to own an arcade game lol
The NWK-TR Thrill Drive is not rare. It may be hard to get now in 2024 but there were a LOT of them in arcades even around 2005-2010. For a large board try Atari TX1. Now that's a large board lol. Or Gauntlet Dark Legacy. Or even Gauntlet (the first game). Or any Model 2 or Model 3 game, they are all larger than NWK-TR. I have one of the rarest Thrill Drive boards here... it's the Hornet version (GN715 hardware). Uses the same security board as the NWK version. There's a play vid of it on my channel.
@@VideoGameEsoterica yeah these boards were all scrapped more than 10+ years ago. I remember seeing one in an arcade around 2012 but nothing after that. Arcades don't have any on-staff techs usually so when it breaks they toss it and get something that works, they couldn't care less about the game title they only care if it has a working coin slot lol. I have heard about some arcades here they run stuff until it dies with zero maintenance (about 1 year tops) then when it breaks they smash it so competitors can't get the spare parts. Really nasty f*%kers.
These are totally my jam! It's a thrill to learn about this racing hardware, and really drives me to learn more!
Your proudest moment so far in 2025 🤣
Facts. 😎

This was basically the mid stage between full custom hardware and the PC in a box era

Don’t start collecting them. Haha it becomes a thing
@@VideoGameEsoterica right on.

Maybe not this far advanced but it def gets a lot of complex boards running

I love the mess of chips. Feels like “it works but just barely and even we aren’t sure exactly how” haha
You do of course, have to show more of the goodies that the boards offer.
Haha I will in the future. So much more hardware to shoot
Konami is STILL using these internal clocks. In the game Rainbow Bombergirl they use it too. Same goes for Chase Chase Jokers
They’ll never stop. It’s a Konami constant

Every hobby is expensive if you are invested enough. As they say get your kid into music and they won't be able to afford drugs.
I hope you get it working eventually, you deserve it 110%!
I will one day. One day…🤣
Boards like those I'd definitely be weary of getting, it just looks like so much can go wrong easily
Haha def be wary of them. They are a chore
GET READY TO JAM

Oh no. What game?
@@VideoGameEsoterica it was a pandoras box 6 machine, heartbroken :(
Ahh I see. Yeah they do tend to break

There’s zero judgments here on how people play games coming from me
Amazing to see this VGE. Even I have to admit I want them for the collection bro. 8^)
I mean they are legit fun games
Also would be great to have maybe some NAOMI 1 and NAOMI 2 boards and GD Roms for the channel...
I did a NAOMI vid a while back. NAOMI 2 in 2025
Still not powered the two more sets I picked up ! arghhhh and yeah already RJ2... so still no TD boards here
Haha gotta test em!
Hi!. Very interesting video. Thanks! 🤩👍
Glad you enjoyed :)
When are we going to get to see a video of where you store all these boards? :)
Working on it actually
Dumb question did you try to switch the security board out with the others who work for you? It can be your security board might be faulty...
I’ve tried every combo known to exist and I get nothing. I have stacks of papers with all the results
I would to see this dipped into an ultrasonic cleaner.
You’d need a BIG cleaner

When I say rare I’m referencing today. These boards were easier to find 15 years ago but now they’ve dried up completely

I know you're recommending us to avoid these, so you can buy more of them.
Haha I want no more of these boards. Nightmare inside a headache
Maybe a dumb question but is the MiSter able to emulate those boards in FPGA or is this impossible due to the high amount of transistors / logic ?
This would be beyond what MiSTer could do. You’d probably need a 200K plus LE chip with faster memory
