If you watch my channel whatsoever you will know some things about my retro gaming tastes; I love arcade racing games and I love obscure retro games...so put those two things together and...well you get one of the best Namco Games ever...Lucky and Wild! Oh and its ALSO a lightgun game so...bonus! It's basically Chase HQ from Taito meets Point Blank meets OutRun! Oh and its also written Lucky & Wild
Luckily this runs on MAME via MAME emulation so it can be enjoyed by all and if you need a MAME tutorial or MAME guide I have one on my channel....just check the emulation night school playlist!
But its definitely an arcade hidden gem of jank as good luck finding it these days!

Hello and welcome to "The Unported Playlist"
So we decided to extend this playlist from 10 games to does it even matter what the count is anymore? lol it's a lot!
Questions? Comments? Just leave them below and I will do my best to answer each and every one of them!
I am playing this via Teknoparrot emulation on my Windows 10 machine so technically its PC Gaming! that makes this a PC GAMER channel lol.

You have to see the full cabinet. Both the driver and passenger had a gun mounted on the 'dash'. Driving and shooting was an intense arcade experience. I feel lucky to have experienced this in the early 90s

I came to the comments to say the same thing. My local arcade growing up had the two player sit down cabinet. It was awesome. I didn't get to play it much because they jacked up the price too high for my meager allowance, but the few times I played it were incredible.

I used to play this at Six Flags Magic Mountain as a kid. It was the full size bench cabinet and we would play with 3 players, 1 driver and 2 people on the guns. One the most unique arcade games and always a blast to play!!

My friends and I used to play this game when I was a kid. Player one has a gun and driving controls, and player two just has a gun. We used to play this two player game as a three player game instead. One kid would drive, another would control the driver's gun, and a third kid would control the player 2 gun. It was always our favorite and we could never resist when we found one of these cabinets, especially when it was one of the original sit down cabinet configurations(in later years at least it seemed like some arcade operators would remove the bench in order to save space).

This, i found out, is an exceedingly rare arcade machine. I was priviledged enough to have played it frequently, as a kid growing up in the 90s, at a local theatre called the Cinedomes in California, that had a very nice arcade which also included The Punisher sidescroller, Simpon's Arcade, a full sized X-men Arcade machine and much more! The best part was that whoever ran it would leave a couple of the games, including Lucky and Wild, on free play!! I got to playthrough it on many occassions and it remains not only one of my favorite light gun gaming experiences, but is in my top 10 favorite arcade machines ever!! Loved the variations of ways to play. Driver could drive and shoot or just drive while a friend John Woo'd it with dual pistols or even get a 3rd person to join in! It was such a fond gaming memory that i later sought out a machine only to find that they are considered rare and super expensive, especially for the full model i got to play. As a kid i had no idea how good i had it and how well currated my local arcades were. They were truly lucky and wild times!!
P.S.- Another rare machine that i grew up playing, and is in my top 5 favorites is F-Zero AX (also, my favorite racing series). I used to work at a entertainment park called Golfland Sunsplash back when it actually had decent games and i helped maintain the machines. The F-Zero AX was an awesome set-up. We had the dual seater. It was cool to be able to bring your gamecube memory card in and transfer stuff from AX to GX. Have you covered F-Zero AX? Did you know that the full AX game was found to be included on the GX Gamecube disc? Anyways, thanks for the vids. Really appreciate your work. Peace.

Only ever tried it once, most arcades where I live seldom had the big cabinets.
The game looks and feels a lot like a Taito game and the reflections in the rear-view mirror are hilarious. Lots of O-faces. I think that's a feature made for onlookers to enjoy and have a laugh at. The players will be more focused on the in-game action.

My recent experience with this game indicates that two moderately inebriated adults can blast through this game with a continue or three per level depending on how serious they're playing. It's definitely a quarter muncher.... but it's also pretty short... so the overall $$$ damage is not too bad

Like other Namco games, Lucky and Wild also had a degree of 'being fair' and allowing you to play longer as you developed skill...rather than cheating and becoming a borderline illegal video machine that you feed money into for only about 20-30 seconds of play (like Mortal Kombat 2).

Only just clicked on, and not watched the video yet, but f**king A, this is one of my most fun experiences in the arcades bar none. And one of my favourite youtubers doing a video I know it's gonna be an awesome watch.
Anybody else play it 'drive by style' with one hand on the wheel and the other for the gun?
I emulate on Series X and it's kinda heartbreaking there's no gun available for X-Box that would work. I already got a crappy wheel for arcade racers so I'm half there (those £30 multi-platform ones for Xbox/PS4/PC that just take over your controller functions and aren't recognised as a real wheel like those £300 simulator ones, works so much better for arcade racers than a proper sim-wheel does, and they work in emulators for stuff like Chase HQ and outrun on MAME and those old school arcade racers on PS1/PS2/GC/Dreamcast etc... as well as making stuff like Need for Speed, Ridge Racer, Burnout and Split Second WAYYYYY more fun. They eat a big bag of asses for stuff like Asseto Corsa and Forza Motorsport though.)
**EDIT - Damn, everyone in the comments had a player 1 gun as well, so either the arcade near me must have a busted one, or the model was different in Europe, as there was no player one gun on my mine and it cost another 50p to use the player 2 gun. I would have saved so much money back in the day.**

This was one of my fave arcade games in the 90s and would make sure we played it whenever we came across it in arcades (still one of my all time fave cabs). Combining light gun and driving was genius! (Lethal Weapon vibes) As far as I know there isn't FFB working yet, but if that ever happens I can't wait to load it up with the Sinden.
I'd love if Danny Glover was modded into this game! "I'm too old for this shit" on the continue screen.

It's pretty, but not as pretty as something like Outrunners in my view. The draw distance is quite short and the roads flat with little verticality. There doesn't seem to be any cool weather effects either, like in some other sprite-scalers. On the plus side, the scaling works smoothly and isn't glitchy, even though there's a lot going on in this game

Namco and Sega had a rivalry in the arcade market dating back to the early '80s. Namco had fully embraced arcade 3D technology and the PS1 as a pure 3D system was a good fit. Nearly every Namco game for the PS1 was a 3D game. Sony and Namco co-developed the PS1-based System 11 board. Namco became more of a partner than an ordinary third-party dev with Sony and also had more favorable licensing terms, compared to the stricter terms under Nintendo and Sega previously. Square or Enix never released a game for the Mega Drive, which wasn't big in Japan. Despite the MD having some excellent RPGs, Sega consoles weren't generally known for RPGs. I think Square and Enix thought that the PS1 had more potential to become the next big RPG system.

This game is not exactly my cup of pee. It has the same enormous popups of screen filling props like Thunderblade, and so IMO was an era where sprite scaling already a bit had lost its soul (making just even bigger and blockier madness like Pitfighter, without caring for fine graphical details anymore). But it has some interesting ideas; I like the truck 7:00 dropping multiple cars onto the road or 9:40 the burning obstacles falling inside a tunnel.

@@VideoGameEsoterica Yes, sort-of...😉 I ceased to have fun in war-like shooting games (there is too much genuine war in this world now). But I would love to make a disaster driving simulator about driving through similar chaos full of destroyed roads and bridges, flooded sceneries, lava or forest fire (waiting too long nearby a fire burns your car etc.). Missions like rescuing injured people or bringing supply goods into a disaster area is nicer than just a shoot-em-up.
