I have pre-ordered the camera on 5th March but Sony doesn't care about their customers in this country, so they are just moving the shipping date. Again, I am sorry 😞

Thank you, Sony 35mm and 50mm F1.8 OSS, Sigma 16mm and 30mm F1.4 and Samyang 12mm F2 are great lenses that doesn't cost that much.

Is this lens wider than the 30mm Sigma f/1.4 APS-C when on an APS-C crop sensor like a6500?

Yes, it is a bit wider than 30mm F1.4. On A6500 it "behaves" like 42mm lens would on full frame.
Great Video! i use this lens on the a6000. It is my always on lens, i like it. Today i orderd the fe85 1.8 sony. I think its a great combo. Next year i plan upgrading on the a7 iii.

Which one would you recommend for the Sony APS-C? Sigma 30 f2.8 vs Sony 28mm f2. How do they compare as far as sharpness and AF is considered?

If it is soft at F2.0 and ok at F4 and no image stabilization
Why not just get the Sony 24 to 105 f4? it is stabilized and sharp at f4. The low light is so good on the A7lll do we really need the faster lens? I do a lot of bright night video and with my GH5 it requires a ISO of 3200 or 6400 at f2 now to get the proper exposure now.
I know both the price and weight are more but it looks like this is a great do all lens?
At F2 it is only soft in the corners (on A6500), but you would have to make fairly large prints so see that in real life, for digital publishing F2 is perfectly usable IMO and F4 is very good. I have also ordered the 24-105mm F4 but I like to have at least one small wide angle lens in my kit for occasions, where large setup is not suitable for some reason and the 28mm is for me perfect for that, with added benefit of those low-light capabilities.
It is probably not a must have if you already have hi-quality zoom lens, but it lets you take an advantage of A7 IIIs compact size.
What I think i want in addition to the 24 to 105 is the16-35mm f/4 ZA OSS Lens but I am waiting for a sale and better understand what I need over time. I also got the Sony 85mm F1.8 for what little portrait I do.
After thinking about it for awhile the 28mm is the best option to fly on a gimbal
28mm is very suitable for gimbal use. I am waiting for some 3rd party alternative to 16-35mm F4, because it doesn't seem to be particularly sharp and 16-35mm F2.8 is very big and heavy.
I shoot events, sharp enough + bokeh is an important thing. I do own a 1.1kg lens. I dont need one more. Walking around with more than one lens makes nice n small ones interesting. Shooting one handed makes light lenses interesting. F2 even if you d never use it helps in lowlight flash photography with af
I purchased this lens for my a5100. It's a great lens, but I ended up selling it for the 35mm f1.8. The size and the OSS make the 35mm better for those with APS-C cameras that don't have IBIS. That said, the 28mm will be a fantastic choice for your new A7 III. Great review!

Bro even I'm buying for the sony a5100 , I have 50mm F1.8 full frame lens but it's too zoomed for video I found sigma was perfect but for only apsc , what would i do ? My main work is video
@@ThePhilharmonicStudios I'd look at the new Sigma 18-50 f2.8 that just came out for aps-c. If you want a full frame prime, maybe the Samyang 24mm. It will give you 35mm equivalent on your a5100
I just got this lens as well. It's pretty good. And I think it's the sharpest Sony lens on a APS-C sensor as well according to DxOMark.
Among Sony lenses with similar focal length, it probably is the sharpest, but there are sharper lenses with longer focal length, for example 85mm F1.8.
So it's even sharper than the 30mm f1.4?

I'm steping up from a a6300 and sadly my beloved Sigma 18-35mm f1.8 will not work with my A7iii so I'm loking for a set of lenses to replace that one :)
It will still work work in Super 35 mode, but full frame is the main mode of course. I will be making a lot of videos about FE lenses in near future.
Thanks very useful roundup - I never considered this lens - I thought it was a crop sensor lens - for a first lens for the A73 it's a good price. If you use clear image zoom on the A73 you'd get 56mm as well (correct me if I'm wrong).
Thank you, the price is very good for wide-angle, bright aperture full frame lens. With clear image zoom it can be sort of 56mm while shooting video, but there are some limitations, I will make a video about that in the future.
The Hybrid Shooter thanks that would be a good subject (for the video side of things) I know there is a slight loss of quality in video but many people swear by it as handy option.
It definitely is handy future, but some people think that it can completely replace 55mm lens which is unfortunately not the case.

Vs 30mm F1.8 sigma ?
I'm curious to know why you don't like FE lenses on cropped sensors? I actually only bought FE lenses for my a6300 till I got a FF Sony. Great review BTW and this lens is on my wish list.
Because APS-C sensor can't use all of the glass in FF lens and FF lenses usually perform better with FF sensor because of the lower pixel density.
Also, the lenses for the cropped sensor usually have OSS (optical stabilization), and full frame lenses don't, because the cameras usually have in-semsor stabilization

I don't know, my A7 3 still hasn't arrived and it won't arrive anytime soon in this country. G9 is very good camera though, I still highly recommend it.
I thought I got a faulty sample of the 28mm f2 an returned it. But now I see that the corner sharpness is really that bad. I would never buy this lens for APS-C. The Sigma 30mm 1.4 is so much better. I compared them side by side and even at f1.4 it the Sigma much better than the Sony 28mm at f2.
