      Hey Javier! I love your videos and just wanted to let you know that TH-cam actually move your audio one frame backwards, thus making these examples incorrect although they're correct on your timeline. FlmmakerIQ made a video about this some time ago: th-cam.com/video/2L6nW6uNp9k/w-d-xo.html

    The one frame before the beat is am extremely good technique. There's science behind it too. Light travels faster than sound. So it syncs up better this way. Thanks Javier.

  • @garyofalltrades
    @garyofalltrades 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Oh man that editing one frame before the beat is so simple but such a good idea. When I edit exactly on the beat, it feels behind like you said, and almost a little jarring. It’s like cutting one frame before the beat gives your brain just enough time to process the new image and still give the impression that the cut was actually made on the beat.

    Since I was 17, I strictly place clips a frame or two before the beat. Almost everytime it's better. It's actually "synced" as a cut

  • @Dekzr
    @Dekzr 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    That very first tip is actually really interesting! I’ve always cut directly on the beat, but you are definitely right with cutting it a frame before. That’s so weird.

  • @brandingtitans
    @brandingtitans ปีที่แล้ว

    1 frame prior keeps the energy flowing - my experience regarding timing - it takes that one from for our eyes to absorb the image and yet it happens so quickly that it is faster than the audio so that when the beet hits the viewer not only hears it they also feel it. That is how audio creates moods. Would appreciate feedback on this perspective.

    For grouping of audio tracks together for the 4 independent segments ? Would making separate sequences be an optional method to overcome this. or can we group a set of video tracks to a certain group of audio tracks, and then Pr treats them as a group ?

    From a former film editor that has edited over 100 + trailers using a 35mm, 4 gang synchronizer with 3 mag pick up heads, a white grease pencil, two Rivas 35mm straight & diagonal splicers both with added line 4 sprocket to the left side of center on the block. The beat mark was always placed 1 frame ahead of the of the cut for maximum effect.
    Thank you for shortening my learning curve on Premiere Pro.......Billy aka ICM

  • @wolfmccarron
    @wolfmccarron 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    You should always let audio hang a little longer than the video. Sounds way better.

  • @JimLeonard
    @JimLeonard 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    The cuts on/after the beat look and feel better than the cuts one frame before. Maybe your editing system is introducing some sort of audio lag? Your final cat edit at the end of the video also feels off in the same way.
    Typically in a beat-based edit, you want the beat to drive the visuals, not the other way around.

    • @JavierMercedes
      @JavierMercedes  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Good to hear your perspective Jim! Valid point and I’ll look to see if that is something going on

    • @JimLeonard
      @JimLeonard 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@JavierMercedes I had to deal with this on computer editing systems 20 to 25 years ago; it helped to first verify a playback system that had no lag, usually using a test pattern with sync (I used Video Essentials), then create some synthetic test patterns with sync pulses that were -2, -1, 0, 1, 2 frames delayed. This usually helped narrow down if there were hardware or driver issues causing delay.

  • @darrinlalla9008
    @darrinlalla9008 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Yess, such practical suggestions. Now release the cat video you were editing.
