I think your labor of love is a bigger gift than just getting the money out of your pocket to buy some flowers, that’s a beautiful birth bath that will be there long after you are gone !
Agreed!! Thank you. It sits right outside our front window! It is great to drink the morning coffee and watch the birds enjoy it. Thank you for watching and commenting!
Thank you very much. I like the natural look as well. Really considering polishing the tub section. It'll hold water a lot longer if I do that. But it works!
Awesome video ! 👍 better gift than flowers 🌺 for the wife , this was specially made & will last a lifetime. Well done 👍 gonna make a few myself , thx for the info & ideas 💡.
7 years is good! We’ve been married 23 years and still loving it but still taking care to work on it. I’m sure your wife will appreciate the work you’ve put into that so know how much you love her. It’s always hard to find something different as a gift and you’ve gone for the honed from rock birdbath already! 😄 - can’t wait to see what you give her when it’s 23 years! 😄 One take away I got from this video - I need a tractor! Another interesting and informative video! - ATB, Mark 👍
Really cool! Love how you think about the birds' use of it over aesthetics. Sounds like you're as great of a husband as you're a bird bath creator. All the luck man
Happy Anniversary J-Dawg and Wife. Turned out so well that it Rocks!! No pun intended!! I believe you should be the recipient of the Fred Flintstone/ Barney Rubble kick rocks 🪨 Award!! Seriously, great job!!
Love it! You didn't cheap out - you put a lot of man-hours into that and your time is worth money. Plus it should be more valuable to her as it is something you crafted. I love how it came out and should be even more beautiful once surrounded by trees. (P.S. Great rona mask crack. :-) )
I was wondering who was going to say what about that rona jab! Glad you liked it. I was being incredibly sarcastic when I said that about cheapin' out hahaha. My sense of humor doesn't work so well on camera......but I usually think I'm pretty funny. The trees have already been ordered ! We have 3 pear trees and another plum tree on the way!!! Looking forward to getting those in the ground. Bit by bit......exciting stuff! Have a great weekend man! Cheers Doc
WOWZA! What a great idea! Very talented! Be careful dont get the rockrona lmao Happy Anniversary to you and your wife. I wish you both good health and prosperity. Thank You for all that you do
Valid points made about depth and texture, but here are a couple additional considerations and suggestions: If someone is around everyday to replenish the water that shallow design works fine. However, such a small volume will evaporate quickly. People who are away from home days at a time might want to carve their birdbath with a bottom that slopes gradually to a deeper end like a typical municipal swimming pool. Such a design will always have an area of shallow water that will appeal to the birds while keeping water available longer without attendance. If made to hold a large volume of water, say several gallons, drilling a drain passage through the stone at the deep end will facilitate cleaning without the need to bail the dirtied water (birdbaths should be cleaned regularly to prevent concentration of bacteria and other pathogens). Regularly attracting birds and small mammals (squirrels, chipmunks and such will likely use the bath as a watering point if there is not another convenient source in the area) to a site will make them more vulnerable to predators. It's a good idea to keep that in mind when deciding where to site a birdbath or feeder. I'm no ornithologist, so there might be better choices, but I actually placed a few smaller baths on the margin and slightly into woodland and brush habitat behind my house that I figured would provide the birds escapement cover. I also placed wire enclosures with large grid openings that posed no barrier to small birds' passage but would make it more difficult for predators such as coyotes, raccoons and cats to catch the birds unaware.
Good stuff. My Harbor Freight angle grinder finally crapped the bed on me so I did spring for the lesser expensive of the DeWalts. I have some really cool wood carving "discs" for them. Bar far the sketchiest is the chain saw blade for it lol

I made a 'small' bridge for my mom for Mother's Day almost 35 years ago. I thought about wood burning the date and my initials into it, but figured that would be too egotistical, plus... 'it won't last THAT long'... Nearly 35 years later it's still standing, house has had multiple owners since my mom moved (she cried because it was too big to take), has weathered a nasty tornado and a cottonwood tree falling on it. I drive past every once in a while to see if it's still there, and sure enough, it's still standing. I should've done the wood burning etching...
