- My best pilot award for Biggin hill easily goes to the proficient Czech Gripen pilot, he really knows how to fly it, such great control.
Wow! Some once in a lifetime experiences were had here, not often you get this close to a fighter jet flying over you at high speed! Had the pilot pushed that fast pass any more, he would have broken the sound barrier for sure. Such a wicked buzz. Top marks to the pilot, brilliant flying and thanks for staying low on takeoff for us!

The display pilot was Cpt. Ivo Kardoš. He pulls off pretty wild show on every occasion...
Must be a hell of an aviator, sustaining such high G-turns so long! Respect.

Well filmed I must say! Razor sharp images. And then the pilot and his fighter aircraft: I know of no fighter than can turn as sharp and sustain these turns so well as the Gripen. Maybe the Mig-29 and Rafale come close? As far as I can say form airshow experience, I've never seen an F-22 or Typhoon pull these short diamtere span turns with such seemingly great ease and minmimal use of afterburner. I hope the RAf will buy a dozen or two some day to form an agressor squadron. I'm quite sure that the Gripens wpuild give F-35 and Typhoon crews a run for their money.

Nice footage and great sound pickup. Especially great to hear the cheers and wizzles from the bystanders, shouting for the plane to turn towards them, and pilot obliged, as he could have heard them. Pure joy.
This is no mystery, under all those hard points he seemed to have a soft spot for female beauties, as he obviously could spot them on medium distance. What a peacock play!

When money matters, which it should do for most countries, JAS 39 is a very good choice. It's cheaper than its competitors and are just as good. Then it's all up to the pilots who will win and the Czechs seem to have good pilots. I'm glad the Czechs chose this airplane, I would've done the same.
Now we have USA loving goverment which decided to replace Gripens with expensive and fragile F-35.

I remember 2017 was the best year for the "new" Biggin Hill Airshow. The Gripen pilot was also an absolute legend!

An incredibly-gifted pilot and that was noise turned to ballet. Constant rolling and turning...the best demonstration flight of any fighter I've seen!
Bobsurgranny, if this is your video, compliments, good videography and what looks like a nice camera. No jiggling and poor out of shot content, you kept the aircraft in frame even when it was tonkin along at a fair speed. NICE, and thanks for sharing. We in South Africa have the Gripen as well, and through our virtual aviation club near our bases we get to know the pilots of these aircraft. An awesome aircraft.

Really nice that the camera isn't zoomed in on the pilot all the time. Give more dynamics to the video and you get a better sense of the speed and manouvers. Super :)

The gripen is small (spot, follow & lock will be a struggle), agile as aircrafts gets atm, among the fastest around and packs the lastest technologies (systems & missiles). And the platform is timeless meaning all it needs to stay competitive is mainly software & minor hardware updates. No need for major design changes, unless they want stealth ofc. But you don´t need stealth to beat stealth as long as you have the tech and guns to counter it. This is initially not a plane for attacking other countries, but to defend it´s own boarders, territory & land. And a future enemy will likely have stealth bombers so what´s the point of defensive aircraft if you can´t face that threat. And this was considered when developing the new Gripen E and it will be more and more important with every update of this aircraft as developing a completely new fighter on their own won´t be finacially possible in a long time if ever.
but If it intercepts the stealths then they will be roasted as hell.......they wont escape for sure LOL
Stealth as for non-reflecting radar signals is true, but it is really hard to disguise that heat pattern from the fumes of the engines and from the friction of the wings. Look at the old article from Ny Teknik www.nyteknik.se/fordon/gripens-nya-super-radar-ser-stealth-plan-6398654
"unless they want stealth" They have stealth already and the E/F versions have even more advanced stealth. The old 1970 technology as F35 use will soon be obsoletet.

I watched ground crew of 5 rearm and refuel a Gripen in under 10 minutes on a road. I was amazed at how small it is. It's faster than the F-35, and a greater combat range at half the cost of the F-35. The U.S. is getting reamed by aircraft makers.

As an airshow aircraft the Gripen is awesome. F35s do so much more than dogfight, and this is why so many countries want it.
F-35 is only expensive fighter is it invisible only for American radar only lose of money I am from Czech F-35 is 5th generation but seriously we need it? Gripen Is awesome fighter and I am happy I can have them in our army it can land everywhere is it small fast and it have more combat power
This is cool, but I´ve seen pilots really pushing this aircraft and that´s impressive stuff indeed. I think it´s the most beautiful fighter (Typhoon second), it´s my ideal design and shape I associate the most when I think "fighter jet". The size is the only think that needs to change to fit more fuel and load depending on purpose. Even when I was little not knowing shit about fighters more than seen them in movies, everytime I drew one it looked very much like the Gripen and I never saw one anywhere until years later. The best 4-4,5 gren fighter imo all things concidered. It really depends on what you need though, but it´s pretty damn versitile and beastly enough for most situations/conditions. Sure others can fly longer and pack more weapons better for longer missions. But dogfighting is where it shines like no other. A skilled pilot with the true capabilities of the aircraft and it´s level of sophisticated weapons. Would make anyone think thrice going up against it.
And that's exactly what they did to the new Gripen E/F. Bigger frame, more fuel capacity, more weapon pods or whatever it's called. And ofcourse upgrading all the software and new radars, EW etc etc.

This is more a demonstration of Gripen and it´s capabilities than the skills of a certain pilot.
The aircraft is a masterpiece that outperforms ALL other competitors in a dog fight.
If you look carefully, it keeps the speed even in heavy turns, thanks to the computer controlled instability and the resulting lower drag induced. It also has the highest turn rate.
Eventually, this ends up with a Gripen 27 mm Mouser Auto Gun pumping kilos of led, in your ass and turbines.
Game Over.
Modern air to air wont be like ww2, you have long range missiles and tech that can spot aircrafts from far away. But it has the meteor equipped which is one of the best long range air to air missiles.

Yes. The modern missiles are good...and so is the countermeasures and EW suites. Lets not go "only missiles are needed" as they did in Vietnam. Can see that speed and dogfighting capabillities can be a real asset even in modern combat. Can't jam a round from the cannon.
Well the likelihood of it being more dogfights then missiles being used in war is a far stretch to say the least, yes 2-3 dogfights might happen but if you count in all the modern tech on a plane + all the modern tech on the ground it's very unlikely that it will end up in a bunch of dog fights.
Probably true. But I just want to point out that this line of thought have already been explored (deeming guns and dogfights a thing of the past) in vietnam.
I really want to stress the point that, while dogfights might be very rare to this day and age, we should build fighters that can handle that very basic engagement. The EW suites on modern fighters are keeping good steps with the missiles that are used and there is a good posibillity that the engagement could end up in a close quarters fight, if the enemy fighters must be stopped and can't be avoided.

F-16 are obsolete now. Might be effective against old MiG-29s and stuff like that, but not against Grippen.
No other jets can match this one.. Gripen is the best out there, king of dogfighting.. Just throw the f35 and f22 in the garbage it is a junk.. This one is the real jet fightet.. Nimble, agile,speed, nothing compares!
