Shaun I really like your style and love the Bible verses. Keeping God First is a great. I bought a new Fatboy 114 2018 last winter. I rode all summer and Iive in Indiana. Put 11,700 miles on it from April to Oct. I had not Rode for 35 years, plus it’s the first Harley I owned.
Retired early because of health but at 58 I had the best summer in decades.

nah nah nah. driving flat out on a bike like this is more fun than a superbike, why? well if you are pusshing the superbikes limits, you are flying and its fun, but its stressfull too. if you push the limits of this, its just fun

Just my opinion but I loved my 03 Fatboy. (I had the anniversary wheels so I can't speak to the wind deflection) but I found myself trying to turn it into a Heritage because I needed to haul stuff around with me. I had a windshield, auxilliary lights, saddle bags, touring style seat. The more I thought about it, the reason I love the Fatboy is the stripped down look. Anyway I had issues with it and the $$ made me look around and I now have a Road King which I LOVE and it fits my purpose perfectly. I still really like the Fatboy and will eventually get another older one to enjoy it for what it was meant to be and give it a home beside my Road King.

I just recently purchased a 1993 FatBoy, I drove it 157 miles to get home. I drove on I25 from Pueblo, CO to Walsenburg, this part of the interstate has VERY gusty winds areas. I never had any issue with the wind, except that I could really feel it. Once I got onto hwy 160, a two lane road, to Alamosa, the trucks passing me did not upset me , although there were a couple that nearly took me off my seat😬
By the way, I am 66 y/o female, my last Harley softail custom was 30 years ago and I have not riden a bike for 28 years!🙂💐

@@lionheart5078 Maybe. It's got a fair amount of torque, so there is a bit of a learning curve, but if you're careful and stick to riding around your neighborhood or in a parking lot until you feel more comfortable, you'll probably be fine. I started on a V Star 1100. I spent about 3 weeks just riding around my neighborhood before I took it out on the road, and was fine. The Fatboy is a little heavier than that, and has a bigger engine 1100 cc vs 1450), but if you respect the bike and don't get too crazy until you're more confident, it's definitely doable.

I have solid rims on my fatboy.I have ridden it all over the country in very high winds when most people would not even attempt to ride.My experience is that having the solid rims did not affect ride or handling.I have been riding for over 40 yrs, rode all kinds of bikes .In my opinion this thing about solid rims is not true.Yes you have to fight any bike in high wind .

The only thing know is it's a nod to the military.
Fat Boy is a combo of the names of the bombs dropped on Japan. HD denies this but at the same time it uses military styling on this decal.
Of course in today's political climate they'd have to deny it. They say the name is because it's a wider bike.

  • @SaltyPirate71
    @SaltyPirate71 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

If the wind is blowing so hard that a solid front wheel makes it dangerous, then you shouldn't be driving ANYTHING in it. Your body and the engine/fuel tank all present a higher crosswind drag coefficient.
    C(d)*D(r)*1/2V²*A(r)
The 17 inch solid rim is 226.8 in² vs the reference area of the rider and fuel tank and engine of 1,296 in². The maximum coefficient of the crosswind would be at 90° to the direction of travel and with a wind velocity more than 30% above the velocity of the motorcycle. For instance: if you're driving 70 mph, the difference of the additional 226 in² will be negligible (but not zero) until a wind of 90 mph blows across your path at 60° to 120° or 240° to 300° from your direction of travel.
Personally, I believe the myth was started by Kawasaki as a marketing ploy to sell their 1500cc Vulcan to riders not committed to a brand.

Good point about how different cars handle so much differently. Like my old jeep compared to my friends little VW. Can drive both but still a difference. Possibly picking up a 2014 flstfb103 tomorrow. I am a novice rider. I have ridden bikes before. My first was a giant 550 dirtbike but being careful and and taking it slow at first i never wrecked or flipped it. My last was just a little 125 Honda monkey lol. Wanted something cheap to ride and get my locense but right after buying the dmv closed for 9 months for covid and got rid of the bike before they reopened. Obviously a huge difference between that bike and a fb but i am confident as long as i am careful, take it slow i will learn this bike. My biggest concern is maneuvering at slow speeds like taking the test to get my license, weaving around cones. My choices are the flstfb or a sportster 48. I feel the 48 would prob be easier/safer but i can just see in a year when i still have years left to pay on it i will be wishing i had got the fb instead?

Depends on the Harely and what your comparing it too. Sportster's at 120lbs heavier then any other bike with a comparable motor size isn't really a massive difference when your talking 450+lbs bikes to begin with. Fat Boy is big and heavy though, 700lbs ready to ride. But a Harley Ultra Glide and a Honda Goldwings are about even in weight and they are about as big as I can think off.

chris smith if you rode my bike nothing left to the imagination. The wheels, exhaust, floor boards anything that could
Be replaced with lighter more functioning parts were replaced. It is considerably lighter and maneuverability much improved. That’s too bad but There is many reputable wheel makers that can make you a very specific bitchen wheel. Those solid ones just had to go. Yes, I have been on some SG that and RG as well (side bar favorite HD ridden as of date, Lowrider S have you experienced it?) feel like completely different animals and Even heavier haha!

(i have not rode the lowrider s yet) i must say i am having a shit ton of fun on my sg, makes me feel like im on my sport bike lol, as far as the weight goes u dont really feel it once u get rolling, its only when ure backing it out. the rims i was looking 2 get 4 the fatboy was a great deal i should have jumped on them when i had the chance lol.

chris smith located in, California. My fat boy is a 2009 in denim black. You get the sense of the bigger bike and weight just sitting in it but yes, backing it up requires a bit extra manpower on those SG and RG. But I feel you, I love riding my fat boy. Although it isn’t sport bike i treat it like one. If you ever get the opportunity to ride a lowrider S, I highly recommend it. Your grin will be from ear to ear. Safe riding.

Sean, look at 8:41 and you will see why he is a "Big Man." His drive tire was on the white stop line. When he took off, he had little traction, so he "squealed" the right rear tire. Not many men can do that with a truck that has an empty cargo carrying area!!! He needs a truck to carry his ego....
