Full hand knowledge + a rip is pretty crazy. Doing full combo and then knowing 3 out of the 4 cards in your opponent's starting hand pretty much wins the game by itself.
At this point the debate between playing Tour Guide or not has been settled by the results. There is literally no top placing Unchained without Tour Guide. Perhaps no one wants to give it a shot but I am pretty damn sure the best players have done more testing than randos in the YT comments section.
The D/D/D engine being added in makes it better since Tour Guide's super consistent Caesar floats into the D/D/D package giving it all a lot more value. Having both makes the line a lot cleaner.
They 100% used to do it on Pojo. Also remember Hoban trolling around with bad cards at regionals to get people on it for YCS's then he'd switch off. One instance that comes to mind was Solemn Scolding in Nekroz format.
Nah, he did not. Thrust was not great when it came out and barely played. If you look at other decks that run Thrust, they play Daruma Cannon or something, which is a non-engine card. If you set an engine card in other decks like Labrynth, you still need to wait a turn to use it. It just so happens that Unchained gets immediate value off Thrust on either turn by popping whatever you set if you need to grab engine on your first turn.
I always love the hilarious coping replies to such posts, that refuse to acknowledge that the text of didn't get errata'd, or that the rules of the game didn't change. There are constants in yugioh that practically don't change and allow those that are good enough to see the intrinsic value in cards, even if they """aren't good""" in a particular format. I, for example, knew Thrust is mind-bogglingly insane the moment I first read it. So yep, either Jesse actually fell short there, or he unironically tried the Patrick Hoban move. Don't be surprised if it's the latter; this would be in line with behaviors such as the 2020 buyout of a useless card like Snake Rain that he caused too. Top players aren't necessarily saints, it would take a fool to believe this. The temptation of being able to shift a market to your favor through influence is too big.
I find it funny how Hoban at some point dominated YGO and now its Jesse .. the guy who Hoban used to hangout with the most. You can really tell how these guys managed to learn how to optimize deckbuilding and think ahead of the curve. Him, Joshua and some other folks have gotten lonelier tho since the peak level of ygo has less good player nowadays.
One of the funniest things I’ve seen in Yugioh is the majority of the Unchained discord/FB group community swearing up and down Tour Guide was horrible, and the actual good players disproving them
When that happens Kash will dominate again since people are respecting it less, after it dominates again people will respect unchained less for Kash, and the cycle will continue
On the gryphon topic, its funny how paradoxical it is. Last event when pak won several people were on 4+ book cards which would be dead against gryphon so that was a preferred end board. After that event when people realised books can be dead against unchained people cut down on some books which made ddd better. That plus replacing the books with nibs is a phenomenal meta call for that event especially going first.

@@UTgohan right, sure, not like he consistently tops events and has been arguably the best player for a long time or anything... nah clearly he's just been lucky.
Most pro players do deck stacking for the earlier rounds until they top. Jesse is definitely a good player, but it’s statistically improbable to get first place that many times when there are that many people in a tournament. Notice how they never brick until feature matches/top cuts.
Jesse also gets 2 byes at every event he attends, so he can construct his deck more toward the meta and respect a little less the rogue decks you tend to encounter early in the tournament
