I actually made one of these a few years ago with the same idea of having it fold up. Just a suggestion for anyone who wants to make this. Instead of having the top and bottom shelf supports, I just installed supports for the bottom, then used dowels glued to the bottom of the shelves to insert into holes on the supports.

Have you thought of how to do it 360? Like 4 together with tunnels cut out to put trains going round?
You would have to change how the shelf is held.
