    You were right she knocked it out of the park with those 2. One site I hunted became a construction site and I found that the tires of the giant Tonka trucks were a great place to find a point because they squashed the dirt off and for some reason well made quartz points held up better than any unworked rocks which would be crushed more often than not. GL next time 👍

    • @artifactaddiction
      @artifactaddiction  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      She definitely had a great 2nd half. Things changed real quick after those 2 points. That farm road there is definitely a good place to look and has put out many pieces. Being the highest point in the field it cuts right through the middle of the site. Wished we found more quartz points. They are quite rare here. Thank you for watching and commenting Larry!

    Wow you finally got to the back side of that big field, I bet you walk that side more often. Congrats on some nice quality points the beveled point could be a dove or a lost lake do you guys find lost lakes in that area,you gotta love those little serrated toothy points,good luck in Ohio maybe you or Tika will find a Coshocton Thebes e_ notch.

      Thanks Billy! Hopefully we’ll get back to this particular site in another week or so. There’s still a good amount of tilled ground to search. Definitely a lot of Early Archaic pieces on that certain location. I found a big point there a couple years ago that is either a Lost Lake or Pine Tree. Anything serrated is always welcome too….lol. Wow! So it pays to walk a bit farther ehh?!? I would walk the entire farm over the next year and find all camps. That way, when they don’t plow up your favorite site, it’s not a big deal bc you have more bullets in the holster!just a thought…congrats teka on your dovetail!! Cool bevels!!! That one’s still on my bucket list…from a knappers perspective, that dovetail material does not look like the nicest material for chipping... This makes it hard to put super detailed notches in a point. Plus, though large for your area, that would be very small for a dove elsewhere, which also makes it harder for nice notches. In the end, it’s any of the other archaic types, so we are left with the dovetail!!! Again, great find!! Looking forward to the next one!!! Waters still up here so I’m bored bored bored…..

    • @artifactaddiction
      @artifactaddiction  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      We are definitely planning on searching for more camps across that field. I’ve found many small camps there over the years. There’s got to be more though. We find quite a bit of that material out there. It’s quite reddish and I believe it’s been heat treated for knapp ability. Yeah, it’s a good size for our are. We get lucky every now and then. Thanks for coming along, hopefully your creeks will go down and you can get out. Best of luck!

    Cool stuff guys! Curious if you'd cover finding places to look. Getting permission is obvious but do y'all just ask and walk, or is there more of a science involved rivers, local history searching or ? Neighbor here, Allegan County. Trying to bypass the leg work... lol

    • @artifactaddiction
      @artifactaddiction  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey thanks for checking out the vid! Great to see another local artifact enthusiast. We generally locate sites adjacent to major water sources. Rivers, Creeks, Lakes, Swamps/Wetlands, and ancient water sources. Asking permission is first and foremost. Then it is all about leg work. Locating higher elevations adjacent to water and looking for signs of habitation.(Flint debitage). Lots of times we strike out, but not every time. Good luck there in Allegan county. Plenty of artifacts there to find!
