Man I found this review so relaxing, Thank you. I have been debating getting a 4 series for a couple of months now. This video puts my mind at ease. So many people keep on talking about expenses in maintaining a BMW but I still find that buying any used car involves unforeseen maintenance costs. I also appreciated how you gave exact values on your costs.
I’ve had my BMW for 5 years now. A 328i xdrive. 4 cylinder turbo. Honestly it’s been a great car and not as expensive as I thought to maintain. Sure it’s a bit more expensive than a Toyota because I’m still using the dealer for service. There is a lot of garbage on the internet about BMW from people who don’t own one. Be careful buying used because a lot of owners abuse their vehicles but if you buy a good one that has been maintained they are terrific.
BIG FACTS. I just bought a 2005 Acura TL 6-speed manual at 133,000ish miles and I’ve easily spent $500 just to get her where my 98’ Lexus SC300 was at 275,000. Honestly, BMW’s use more electronics, ABS plastics, and needs a bit more TLC than regular cars.
Including monthly financed car payments and auto insurance are both biased expenses and are not one size fits all. You have to take into account variables which will not be universal to all new owners. Insurance rates will vary depending on the age of the insured, driving record (past accidents, or not), credit rating, intended vehicle use and location where car will be used most of the time. You have to eliminate these factors to get a general picture of cost of ownership with this or any other automobile and should really be only looking at fuel, service and actual repairs costs as needed. Some vehicle year models and designs are better that others. For instance an AWD model will probably require more maintenance expense than a standard rear wheel drive, the same is true about naturally aspirated vs forced induction vs superchargers and turbochargers when applicable. BTW , the N53 was the final naturally aspirated straight-six engine produced by BMW, ending a history of this engine configuration since the BMW M30 in 1968. The 2018 400 series year model has notorious crankshaft position sensor problems, sending false signals-making engine enter "limp mode". Not fun at all in the interstate.. Overall, used 400 series BMW's are thrilling to drive and cheap to buy, but may come loaded with problems without a solid maintenance schedule service record. Which begs the question. Why are used BMWs so cheap? Simple answer is they cost a lot to repair, market is oversaturated and have low residual value. Used BMWs might be affordable and fun to drive while they do run but that doesn't mean they're worth the investment unless you don't mind gambling getting a lemon and throwing your money out the window.
this vid didn't give a real idea as to what you mean by 'cost to own'---, i.e, some will assume u are not counting depreciation and/or expected sale price, others will assume u are counting it--- Please be clear.
Great content, subbed. How much mileage did you start with? and how much warranty did you have from the start? Thinking about buying a 4 series with 46k...with possibly an extended warranty
Awesome! Thank you so much! It had right at 50k miles at the start, so BMW warranty was pretty much done at that point. I believe there was Powertrain warranty left until maybe 60 or 70k. It’s been so long I don’t remember 😂 There wasn’t any repairs covered under BMW’s warranty at all I think. I’d highly recommend it! It’s such a pure and fun car. It can be a pain at times, but overall, it’s been a tank. If anything, it got better with age.
What was the problem with the F01 7 series? Of course, it is a pain in the butt to maintenance, not so cheap to insurance... But that is a luxury vehicle :)
It was more than maintenance and insurance that was wrong 😂. I have a video on it. Love what the 7 Series is supposed to be, but it was certainly an interesting thing. Here’s the video: th-cam.com/video/-LNciRvPg9M/w-d-xo.html Thanks for watching!! 😃
Ohh dude... :D How could I sum up? Everything that could go wrong, it did go wrong in that poor bastard 750 Li. My knowledge about them is pretty short, but I know for sure, is that you should get it with the diesel engines (I know pretty rare in the US), but much less issues 730d, 740d, 750d are the engines to go... But after that, why the 4 series? I mean I know it does look mean, and kind of awesome - of course everybody has their own taste - but there would be more reasonable cars I think :) Funny fact tho. In our country it is not so uncommon to see people take their expensive automobile to Suzuki and other dealership to service (probably because they have a friend working there...).
Hahaha yeah, that poor thing had seen some shit, but I still love it and miss it daily. I’d take it over the same year S Class any day, even though the S Class is technically better in almost every way. The 7 Series just looks like something a mob boss would ride in. 😂😂 I honestly don’t think I’ve ever seen a diesel 7 Series here or where we bought it 4 hours away. I’m sure they’re around, but I’ve only seen hybrids and petrol engines. I’d be interested to try one, though!
Oh! And the 4 Series because it’s rare enough here to still be rare and unique but overall common enough to be cheaper to fix. Suzuki stopped selling cars in the US a few years ago. A lot of the dealerships changed to sell used luxury cars. That one specializes in garbage, though. 😂
Kerensky TM hey man just wondering how your costs have been for issues with the car if any, also what is your mileage and year. Looking to purchase this car
@@TechMultiview100 I haven't had any issue with the car so far. it's a 2016 435i with the M sport package. I bought it 3 months ago with 19k on the dash, now I'm at 24K. this is all because of the insane mileage that was put on the car.

Would a 2016 428i with 57k miles on it still be worth it?
Is the oil leak common with the 4 series?
