So happy to see two people almost immediately understand what's going on. This is one of a handful of movies that always makes me cry. Well deserved Oscar for Joaquin.
Thus far I’ve watched scores of Joker reaction videos, always to be disappointed with their reactions and analysises. Finally a sophisticated couple, with intelligence! I will be following you two from now on! You’re great!
Yeah. I wish they’d watch and react to Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul. Two shows that I love, and, from what I have seen, many reactors also misunderstand quite a lot and often.
@@themask8221Niamh here! I am a huge fan of Breaking Bad - so unfortunately I have seen it. But Danny hasn’t - and I haven’t seen Better Call Saul. We will definitely do these shows on the channel someday, it’s such a big undertaking though so it may not be in the very near future. But they’re both on our list for sure 💙
Something I almost never see people comment on is, watch Arthur's hands when he writes. He changes which hand he writes with depending on which personality he's in. Arthur is right handed. Joker is left handed. That's why his handwriting looks so schizophrenic. Speaking of handwriting. That writing from "Thomas" on the back of the photograph is definitely Penny's handwriting. It matches the letter she wrote. She was just nuts
The sequel should not take away anything from this first film. For my money, it's up there with one of the great comic book character stories ever put on screen. The tone, the pacing, the music, the homage to Hollywood of the past, the acting... it's all amazing. That final scene with the crosscut to Bruce in the alleyway is haunting... and the murder scene in his apartment with the heavier coworker and the little person... just terrifying.
There is a theory that the entire movie is Arthur recalling what happened in the past to the therapist. That is why he seems to know about Bruce and his parents. Even the second movie does not discount this theory. Perhaps he is in his 40's now because this happened years ago? He goes in and out of Arkham all the time. Thye joke could be that his actions created Batman and that is who put him in Arkham. the time would work as Bruce would be in his late 20's and already Batman. Just a theory.
He's been on seven different psychotropic medications and now he's suddenly unable to get any of them. Even if he were otherwise healthy discontinuing any of them without doing it gradually can drop a person into full-on psychosis
Had the last scene of this movie been Arthur being applauded as he uses his blood to create the Joker smile and the last scene from this universe, it would have gone down as legendary 😢 Martha and Thomas were dead, the Joker born. End of story, insert imagination for how the rest would follow.
To me, this is a *perfect* Joker origin story. It was a lot of fun watching you two react to it. I haven't seen the sequel yet, but this movie is so incredibly good that I simply *must* give Todd Philips and Joaquin Phoenix the benefit of the doubt, regardless of the many critics. I'm looking forward to seeing the sequel.
Of the Joker reactors I have seen, you two are ones of the few, if not the only ones, who understood that scene of Arthur dancing in a restroom after he killed the subway bullies. And you’re also the only ones who understood Thomas Wayne when he punched Arthur. You two are really insightful, I love it! I’ve seen that since your How To Train Your Dragon reactions, and you haven’t disappointed ever since. Anyway, one small but cool detail you may have missed is: Arthur’s seemingly random kiss for Dr. Sally was not random; at least for me, it wasn’t. Before Arthur was introduced into the stage, there was a small, kinda easy-to-miss moment when the doctor asked if the guy that’s about to be introduced has *sexual* problems, to which Murray agreed, and even added that “he has a lot of problems”. I like to think Joker kissing her was another ‘f*ck you’ to Murray for insulting him, and to kinda prove his insults wrong.
Thank you so much for your kind words, it means so much! That is a great detail that we missed - the small moments in this film are so well thought out. Your support is so so appreciated 💙
Great reaction to an amazing film! I'd highly recommend a film Joaquin did called You Were Never Really Here, a neo-noir crime psychological thriller from 2017. Not only is the film riveting and very intense but given that this film and that one are only two years apart he looks like two completely different human beings, not as in for the role, just the physical transformation is mindblowing.
A wicked thought just crossed my mind!! Since you've watched some Batman movies recently I think you should go back in time and watch the 1966 movie, Batman. I don't recall ever seeing a reactor watch it, and I think the two of you would be able to appreciate it for what it is. A pop culture icon!

This was a different take to the Joker character but at the same time it was an amazing performance by Joaquin. It's not fair to compare this with Heath Ledger's Joker for example as both were amazing in their own way. What an amazing movie tbh but having watched Joker 2 I'd recommend not to watch it n just appreciate this movie, that's it. Joker 2 is totally different n not at all a continuation really of this movie, it's just a musical. Great reaction guys, good job.
Im so glad they decided not to make a sequel to this movie
