It's a bit high, but like the Black Rose said, you needed expedited service, you got it. This stuff happens. You didn't even lose money on the night, and an expense like this needs to be thought of on a quarterly level, not against one nights gross... These are the increased risks we take to be our own boss...
I know that song by B.B. King about paying the cost to be the boss is aimed towards a woman, but those lyrics could just as easily be about any business owner singing to society in general. There is a real cost to doing this as you know, yet a lot of people want to only focus on how lucky you are or only look at the good. I was beyond elated to still make it on time, I feel like I went through the entire grief cycle on the side of that road. I’m not gonna get cocky over one minute (too close for comfort for me), but to still meet what obligations I signed up for in that circumstance felt incredible, even if I overpaid. As a self-proclaimed perfectionist, little things like this matter a great deal to me, it’s probably not healthy, but it’s who I am🤪 👊🏻🍻
Buy 20 ft heavy duty chains & hook 🪝 from Home Depot call other truckers in your area. The will charge a reasonable price $200 ish. Make sure you have freightliner towing hooks in truck.
Always carry set of snow single chain with metal grabbing they sell on truck supply stores work s on mud and ice I learned hard way but that investment save me many times
Solid advice, thank you. I actually own chains but didn’t have them with me and would never have thought to try that. Hoping there’s not a “next time” but if there is, I’m gonna start carrying my chains with me. 👊🏻🍻
@ it s not chain actually it s called mud grabber 4state sell s them goes around rim holes straps on tire there is a big block metal with teeth it s awesome stuff check it out
I just looked them up, defiantly look like it would have helped. I appreciate your input, never forget I learn a lot from having this channel, especially from comments like yours. I appreciate you for taking the time to let me know. 👊🏻🍻
Good to know, thank you. I viewed my chains as only something I needed to worry about if I leave SoCal and had never considered using them for a situation like this. I’m gonna throw a couple pairs in the truck, just in case… 👊🏻🍻
been so close to doing this so many times. might have to get some stuff from your comments, also i might keep 200-300$ cash on me and get a trucker on the CB to come give u a wench of some sort. maybe give um 100 more if their extra equipment makes the difference
No,you didn't get HOSED ,you got TYPHOONED ! Yes,it would have cost some money but NEVER sound desperate, because they hear it & use that to their advantage ! Also, negotiate the price or tell them you will call someone else. Call the next tow company & tell them you were going to be charged $600 from another company, they will come out for that, just saved yourself $300.
Doesn't matter if you got hosed or not, it is what it is.. you got it out of there, you learned an expensive lesson.. Don't dread on these too long, just move on and keep truckin. I doubt you need any more extra stress in your life
I like your outlook on this and you offer solid advice, I appreciate it. I left Moreno Valley ready to go home and throw a pity party for myself and was upset. After sipping on that high voltage coffee and having my phone make me a playlist out of Steve Earle’s “Guitar Town”, I was in a “it is what it is” mindset by the time I got to Vista. It was an expensive lesson, but I try like hell to not dwell on things too long because nothing good ever comes from it. 👊🏻🍻
You didn't hosed, and you sure as hell didn't get TYPHOONED. You looked at the situation and paid $850 for an EXPEDITED tow truck. Sure, you could have spent 1/2-1 hr. on the phone negotiating with 10 different tow co. and maybe got one to do it for $400 but wait 3-4 hrs. for them to get there. In my mind you were paying for a hook no matter what. You just paid $300-$400 more to get it out right now and keep your customer happy. I would have done the same thing. To bad Lou was sick maybe he could have pulled you out with his leash...☺
That’s pretty much the way I came to see it. To date, mishaps like this have been non-existent for me and I’m hoping they are rare in the future, but to pay what I did and still manage to keep everything with Amazon perfect is worth it to me. Had I been late, I would have owned it, it would have been my fault, but facing this situation for the first time and still coming out alright felt like a win, albeit an expensive lesson. Lu would have figured it out for sure, he probably has some Lassie-like qualities about him I haven’t discovered yet. 👊🏻🍻🐶
Strength and Honor to you Brother it was just one of those nights. You will bounce back from it.
Thank you 🙏🏻
Definitely let an emotional moment cloud my common sense. “One of those nights” is a good way of putting it, I like that.

I've driven on many muddy oilfield roads with good snow chains on my tires and could go just about anywhere. They work good.

Great advice, I have zero doubt I sounded desperate. Hopefully, there’s not a next time but in case there is, I will remember your tip.
