ABOUT BELOW DECK:
Captain Lee, Kate, and Ashton reunite as a team and embark on an exciting new season in Thailand on mega yacht “Valor.” After his brush with death last season and promotion to bosun, Ashton’s work hard, play harder persona is at an all-time high. While his leadership on deck holds strong, Ashton struggles below deck to keep his emotions in check after the crew gets an unexpected surprise that rocks Ashton to his core. Chef Kevin’s high standards and strict rules for the kitchen and service clash with Kate’s stew style, leading to fiery confrontations in the galley. Kate tries to foster a productive work environment for her team, but when Simone feels favoritism to Courtney, the stews go head-to-head. When Abbi is unable to adapt to the high demands of yachting, Brian and Tanner are forced to pick up the extra work. Brian, Ashton, Tanner, Simone, Courtney, and Kate all find themselves in and out of love on the boat, resulting in love triangles and heartbreak. With one demanding charter group after another, the crew is tasked with entertaining playboys and party girls this season; but after a shocking departure, the teams must band together to welcome back a crew member from seasons past.

i come from a family of restaurateurs; from high end to hole in the wall joints. I can confidently say from observation, every chef that took being a chef seriously, had some serious OCD problems. I'm talking waking up in the middle of the night just to reorganize their sock drawer kind of madness.

The chef doesn’t have a great personality! He is truly just rude to the girls. He thinks he is just so awesome and I can’t stand him.
He has a tough job. He has to think of timing and make sure the food is served while it’s hot. He needs them to work with him not against him and it’s their job to help him. If they don’t want to help them they shouldn’t be there. He actually went to the beach picnic and helped serve. He didn’t have to go but he did. He’s not afraid of work.

The stewardess job isn’t “to help the chef.” That’s like saying Lee’s job is “to drive the boat.” It’s not that simple, and by by saying that you diminish what they do.
M S Oh and the beach picnic? He took over what Kate was supposed to be doing. Perhaps you didn’t see that part. Kevin didn’t belong at the beach. You don’t see chefs, even at small specialty restaurants, come out to ‘help serve.’
Chefs belong in the galley - which is where Kevin should have stayed.

On top of that a chef in a restaurant is basically one of the bosses. Not the same thing on a Yatch. Maybe that's his problem... a yatch isn't a restaurant. And even if they were hookers or strippers, they still have a right to consent and these men should still follow rules of decorum. They're only smiling because they're at work and a TV show is being filmed so it would be awkward to tell these men to get lost. One of them is so repulsed by Tanner she eventually walks away.

What does Tanner have to apologize for? He only asked to hook up and on top of that when wasted. Simone is an adult and agreed to hooking up. If she changes her mind later that's on her and she didn't need to keep messing with him. He was honest and clear. He never asked her out or said he liked her like that or was even interested.

Unless you are a chef or put yourself in his shoes, I think many don’t understand Kevin. He had a lot of pressure on him. If he messes up he’s screwed, if others screw up the guest dont necessarily see it. He was willing to do extra work and help the others.

Carel Le Roux Botha There is no ‘turf.’ It’s boat that no matter how ‘big,’ they all have to share. There’s no way to really get away from each other. I was a volunteer on a 105’ tallship with 93’ deck space so I definitely get this. You can’t get away from each other.

Steve Sherman ...true, but it was shortly after he brought up how there were “issues”with the serving staff. If you’re going to be so quick to point out the (minor) flaws of your co-workers at the first post-charter meeting, you’d better make sure all guests, including the Captain, gets an entrée. That’s a pretty big deal, considering it could have been for any guest. Most chefs will prepare extra portions. Seems like a rookie mistake. He also didn’t order the needed supplies for the seafood platters that were requested. So for someone who seems to expect perfection from his galley team, he is surely not without his own “issues”.
