I bought a 2021 Jeep Rubicon 392 and still drive it daily. I also have it set up for towing behind my motorhome. I’ve owned it for almost 3 years and still only have 20,000 miles on it. I have owned many of Jeeps in my day and this is by far my favorite Jeep of all time! We will keep it as long as we live.
In buying my first jeep, to be MY2024, I was indecisive between the Rubicon X and the Rubicon 392. Someone suggested that if I am that close to considering the 392 but bought the X then every time I'd see a 392 I'd have thoughts about should I have bought the 392. That was a persuasive thought. Ultimately I chose the 392 and am very glad about it.
Its worth every penny for the 392! Its a completely different animal and so much more fun. I wouldn't agree the steering is "worse" on my 392 than the V6 it does feel heavier but i prefer it. It feels mory "sturdy and planted" best way i can compare the two jeeps. Mileage wise in my experience, the 392 gets 3 mpg worse in all scenarios as long as you arent hotrodding around.
@cpk2GIRL not sure. I switched companies so I dont have a direct comparison. I just looked and my comprehensive is 1600 per year on the 392. I'd imagine that's going to vary wildly depending on age and where you live
Just took delivery on my 2024 392, WOW!!! Amazing, better than described, worth every penny and then some! Leather is incredible for this industrial Bad Boy! Drive Naked!!
Yes it's worth it, provided you can afford it. The 392 is basically a hot rodder. If you wanted a jeep + fast car, you'd spend more for two vehicles than the cost of the Wrangler 392 to get that level of performance. Thats why many manufacturers have high performance variants of their halo-type vehicles. If you just want a jeep for kickin around, then it's not worth it. Personally I think the 2.0t or the 3.6 is plenty, but I'm older and drive slow.
I leased the v6 rubicon X with the recon. The v6 is boring to drive. It can pick up speed ok if I give the gas pedal some love but I’m glad I leased bc I plan on getting the 392 used after the 3 years, hopefully.
You hit the nail on the head. The EPA has to fudge the numbers on the V8’s in order to suit their agenda. Yeah yeah I know the turbos are probably better for the environment and what not but then just say that…don’t fudge the numbers! I have a 22 Ram 5.7 HEMI e-torque with a borla exhaust on it. Never going to sell it! I just wish RAM had put the 392 in the 1500!
Great video! I’m currently deciding between the two models, and I think it’s important to factor in the overall cost of ownership. The 392 comes with additional expenses like premium fuel, higher insurance rates, registration fees, and maintenance costs. So, it’s not just the $25k price difference-you’re likely looking at an extra $3-5k in yearly expenses, depending on the state you live in and how much you drive. You also have to include sales tax. In California, my estimate is approximately $4,620 - $5,420 more annually in ownership costs for the 392 compared to the Extreme Recon. This doesn’t include the one-time sales tax difference of around $1,700. Over a 70-month period, that adds up to about $28,650 - $33,317 more in total costs.
Now i understand it impractical. I understand its out ragous but i would daily drive this dispite the serious gas it inhales. Love the 392 wrangler just wish it wasnt 100k+
Get what you’re saying, but once BUT here’s my dilemma I bought a 2014 Rubicon, the following year I took it to Moab and then I ran the Rubicon trail with it. My Jeep is special to my now and I can’t see me ever parting with it. Had the 392 been available back then sure I would have got one just for the daily drive. However, I can’t see how a 392 would be any better at off road speeds climbing up the rubicon. Just my 2c
@@elrev07 they are less than a half second in the quarter mile and . 6 in zero to 60. The 4xe beats the 392 in 40-100. I haven't driven a 392 but it just seems like a rip off for a motor that isn't even that big.
I have both. Both are awesome. The 4xe is almost as fast, the 392 launches harder but from a roll they aren't far off. The 392 sounds amazing, the 4xe is fun to cruise around in with no noise. If I had to pick one its the 392 but both are sweet machines.
Not all the time 😂. Although I am running BFG 37s with a 2.5 inch lift and 4.56 gears. But even when it was stock I was seeing more like 13.5 combined.
Ben good video. With that said I will have to seriously disagree. If someone is willing to spend 100,000 on a jeep may as well buy a Ford raptor. And the wrangler v6 isn't even worth 72000. Maybe 49000. But jeeps don't deserve to be classified as deserving to be sold so expensive.
I assume with 100k people have to compare the Raptor, Raptor R, Broncho Raptor, and even the TRX (low add-ons). But a jeep is the only thing that can do Jeep things (break-over angle, solid axels, narrow to fit tight trails, tight turns, etc.) So for me, I’m still deciding between the two on the video. I think we have to add cost of ownership here as well… premium gas and higher insurance, registration, maintenance, etc. Its not just 25k more expensive, its about $3-5k more per year.
No comparison start it up and you will have no regrets and will be smiling every time. Bonus is they are never making this again and it will hold its value if you keep the miles low better than any vehicle out there. Bottom line if you can afford it buy it if you cant don't.
I have 392’s one 2021 & one 2024. I love them both. I’m a jeep man and I really love All the V6’s but I have had some wired experiences when they see me driving my cars. One they want to race me and expect to win. They’ll never beat a V8 6.2. Once they see they can’t beat me they get upset. I’m like what did you expect ? Also broncos hate jeeps. 2 bronco raptors have tried to race me and they couldn’t make it. They want the bronco to be the best off road, powerful and fast car and they aren’t.
392 seems fine if you stay on pavement. If your going to take it in the dirt, prepare to replace the tcase with an atlas. I ended up getting rid of my 392 due to repeated tcase failures when off pavement. For fun: My 2021 V6 etorque averaged 18-19mpg in socal over 10k miles. My 2022 392 averaged 17-18 in socal on same routes over 3k miles.
Neither are worth their msrp. The average person will be much happier with their purchase if they save another 20k and buy the 2L turbo. It’s the sweet spot for the wrangler. More torque and more fun to drive than the slug v6 and way cheaper than the v8.
Would love a 392 and could pick one up down the road as I think there are going to be alot more around used once folks start dealing with the corrosion issue.
Remember my uncle bought 2015 X5M for 98k powered by a muscular 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 engine that now puts out 567 horsepower and 553 pound-feet of torque!

They shouldn't have stopped offering the 3.0 Eco-Diesel
Agreed
No that was a big mistake taking away that engine I really wanted one too

All the 392s are unavailable in Australia I have a JT 2023 rubicon can only imagine what the 392 would be like
100k for a Jeep? Do they have galvanized frames yet?
I agree with you. 392 all day for me. 💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯
25? In canada your talking an extra $50-90k. The 392 was still 40 more than my x4e rubicon x
Does the damping in the 392 feel any better compared to the v6 with 35s?
No manual transmission on the hemi WHERE IS THE FUN IN THAT?
Yes. It's 100% worth the extra $25,000 OR be smart and buy a 392 that's a few years old with low miles.
Hey Ben you should do a comparison between your Jeep and your raptor
What a beautiful vehicle. I love wranglers.

Wrangler 392 or TRX?
