- In this episode we are going to stay at Chateau de Bruges that is owned by Graham and his wife as well as Danielle and Jake , who are also running a TH-cam Channel! That’s why they do the filming! Danielle does a good job! :)
How much fun to look around and being one of their first guests at their new chateau accommodation business! They are located in the heart of France in Lapeyrouse! Go and stay and follow their renovation journey!

Well, of course, we knew where you were going to next, when you left ours, but we have been excitedly waiting, to see your vlog about the Chateau De Bruges. Jake, Danielle and Graham have done some amazing work there, those rooms are lovely, and it looks like they have a lot of exciting projects still to do. I especially want to see the gite renovation. It was nice that they gave you a complete tour, and showed you what you can expect when you find your own chateau to renovate! xxx

Hello Thierry, yes we think the same! They are all hands on! It wasn’t planned to visit all the owners, but it happened that we got invited and then also we booked our stay at Chateau de Bruges as well and so it happened. :) We love the community and we know that it’s interesting to watch ! ☺️😘

Chateau de Bruges is one of my favorites. I do hope that the fly problem doesn't deter you from owning a chateau in France. I'm sure there are solutions to help minimize the nasty pests. Thank you for taking us all on your journey to find the perfect French Chateau to call home! Cheers!
Aww thankyou Kathy! Glad you enjoy our vlogs so much. Fingers crossed with some patching up of holes, missing tiles and missing windows we will be able to minimise the fly infestation. They don’t seem to make their way down too much from the top floor though. ❤

Jane and Tony were sensible buying a place that is manageable. As the last comment read, young fit and plenty of money, I agree totally. I have renovated 12 old houses in Australia and finding tradies eg plumbers and electricians in Europe can take a very long time. Buy with your head not your heart. Good luck

Hello Mike, yes! Very exciting! :) But we know it takes time even if we are (especially Brett) studying the property market every day! We will do our best to find the right people for our beloved farm . It’s also not easy as this is paradise as well. But family is calling our hearts to go and live in Europe and follow our dream 🏰 ☺️❤️

We just do a lot of research and find the properties through agents and friends 😌 Takes a lot of time but we hope to find the one!

I bet you had a good tour there, Danielle does a wonderful job with the upholstery, and they have done a wonderful renovation so far . My favourite is the bathroom 😁 onto the next , how are you coping with the weather? Colder than home 🏡

Have you tried electronic devices to get rid of flies. We use both indoor and outdoor devices to clear all flying insects

Here, it's more like a farmhouse with outbuildings (for the first part) or like a bourgeois residence (the second part of the property with its turret) than a real castle. None of the trappings usually characteristic of French castles are included, the moldings, the exceptionally high ceilings, the ornate fireplaces in each room, the woodwork, etc.

We moved to France from U.S. November 2023. This is our 4th trip and happy to finally be able to find our new home. At the moment we rent in Brittany at an old stud farm.

You visit castles, that's good, but are they for sale? At this rate, you're not sure you want to own one.
Hello Richard, we are on a journey to find one. So we are staying with people that already bought their chateaus and we just started. We would love to find our dream chateau. But best is always to talk and spend time with people that are familiar with the topic. And we show every step on the way. ☺️🏰
In my opinion the owners of Château de Bruges don't have to accept cluster flies as inévitable, please let them know. We had the cluster fly problem the first two years, the smell and appearance of theese pests made us décide to sell if we could not get rid of them. Friends recommended cluster fly bombs, we left over winter after vacumcleaning all hibernating flies, our friends placed 3 cluster fly bombs, when we returned in spring not a single fly in the whole chateau. Cluster flies as many other insectes seek shelter from the cold in winter, cluster flies grow in the summer outdoors, in autom they get into houses through extreamely small openings. Come septembre last year we where determined not to get them again, we found that the old windows, specially in the attic had plenty of tiny cracks on and arround frames and edges, we allso found that the places where water pipes cross from attic to second floor where not air tight. We decided to seal all cracks in the attic windows with sealant and floor and wall cracks with plaster. In one small attic room we did nothing because it had no flies the previous autom, à week later I looked into that room, opened the window shutters and found the window pains completely covered in thousands of flies, they started to fly arround, I imediately left the room closing the door behind me, came back with the vacumcleaner, we worked all day and when we finished sealing the windows in that final room that was it, no more cluster flies. Windows must be absolutely airtight when closed specially in the attic, that is the key.
We will let them know. Thank you very much for this very interesting comment about the problem. We saw that on other chateau channels as well and it seems common. So we hope that more people will read this here and that you might be able with your post to help them.

Glad you met Graham, Jake and Danielle. Graham... it's not duck, it's moose. Funny and made me giggle. All the chateaux have mentioned the flies, they all get them. I think they (G,J&D) have the prettiest chateau too, they are definitely my favourite as they are not expecting us to pay for their lifestyle, where some have become very expectant and taking advantage of the more vulnerable viewer who cannot see through the deception. i know many are unsubscribing to these particular channels as they are seeing it for what it really is now. Don't fall into this trap, as some cheateau owners will most probably give you 'advice' how to get more money and get the begging cap out (but disguise it) but still go on holidays and top of the range shops. Some have just got seedy. Just keep it honest and you will be respected for it Good luck find your chateau.

There are many beautifully renovated chateaux for sale within your stated budget. If you buy a building which requires extensive renovation you are guaranteed to invest the same amount as the purchase price. A joint venture such as this is not a great example of what you may wish to achieve. The dreams of others are not a great guide for your own future experience. The only thing that matters are the figures. Romance and finance are completely different when it comes to owning a chateau.
