    I love watching these types of channels, you are so lucky to have been invited to go to all those chateaus, I watch them all, and they really do seem like the type of people to help each other out, so I think you will be set where ever you end up.

It was such an eventful trip for you all and great to see that fellow Chateau owners were very hospitable to allow you to be part of their adventures. Just got the cappuccino machine serviced preparing for the long haul massive consumption of your most wonderful episodes. We

    As I'm sure most of the chateau owners you met have told you - roof condition and heating are 2 of the biggest expenses. Best to make sure they are in good shape, or even existing as far as the heating goes. I see some of these chateau owners inside the chateau and you can see their breath it's so cold! Would be miserable.

    Hi Daphne and Brett, one thing I have learned, watching the Chateau channels, is France is definitely on their own time schedule. This is a big investment and take the time you need. Some of the Chateau owners have said it has taken two years, to find one, buy it, and take procession of it. So knowing the region is a great first step, just a side bar, look, for Dr's and dentists as well. Good luck, and I will be following along. Love from N.Y.

    (French here)
    Are you 100% set on a chateau or some other historic buildings could be considered ? (interesting video on "Jenny's Chateau Farm" 's channel about the other options of historic french houses/buildings)
    In your budget you can find many beautifully renovated "Manoirs" ticking most of your boxes...sometimes lacking outbuildings but addding an architect designed SPA would still fit in budget, or a geodesic dome, or a yurt, or a treehouse, or a "houseboat" on a pond,....
    Restored chateaux tend to be either ugly (think purple bathroom and ikea kitchen !) or ûber expensive...
    Can provide a few alternative examples if interested...

    Also so glad you are meeting other Chateau owners some have busted but over years of renovations good for you both to see and what is the town near the Chateau like you don't want to drive miles for groceries. Most have roofing problems costing several thousands or even a million. If you like designing maybe one that is finished or one that is not that much destroyed inside. Best of luck.

    Love that you are sharing your journey! Now that you have an idea of what you want, I will suggest only one thing; since you want something "finished" then I suggest you get someone like Benoit who has worked with a couple Châteaus to look with you when you narrow it down to make sure things were done in a way that keeps the house healthy. Things like painting the stone or using cement instead of lime for pointing can make it difficult for proper air circulation that these homes have to have so there aren't big problems later. Folks like him could spot possible reno issues. The gentleman that Daphne and Ian have also used for things like the roof (they recently also called on Benoit so you can find both there) whose name just escaped me would also likely be good. I see so many new Châtelains coming across issues they hadn't caught before. A lot of them also say make a list of must haves and stick to making sure you get your top wants and you will be happier.

    • @Chateau_de_Londigny

    Bahahahahaha you're too funny! My husband is a Virgo too.... explains a lot now to me 😉 Yes, it's hard to find the perfect project: one Chateau Vlogger said that unfortunately for the price to come down a Chateau has to sit vacant for about 30 years but then its condition is so derelict that it could take another 30 years to renovate. I think a Spa business is a great niche idea! Wishing you luck! LOVE the out takes at the end 😍

    • @trthib
      @trthib ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Chateaux prices in France have gone crazy since Escape to the chateau, youtube chateau channels and Covid...10 years ago they took years to sell at a much lower price.
      Many niches could work and hundreds are still not looked into yet...

    • @Chateau_de_Londigny
      @Chateau_de_Londigny ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you MaryJane! It’s fun with a Virgo! 😅😍 You are right, it’s often in bad conditions after many years.
      or people renovated a lot and still have to sell , but wouldn’t get their money back. (which can always happen. It’s a lifestyle to live in a chateau, not a smart investment we believe)
      But a Spa Business is definitely something that I would like to put in again, as it’s not often that a chateau owner would be a professional Therapist at the same time as well. ☺️ And of course it’s like the cherry on the cake when you stay somewhere nice. Who wouldn’t like to know that it’s available at least. :)
      A very fortuned situation.
      Just hoping to find the right property.
      And the rest will find its way. :) 😘😘

    Being French I would never choose this area but I can understand it appeals to foreigners.
    Central France is one of the cheapest areas, therefore you will have a bigger choice and lower prices, which is great!!!! Bonne chance !

    • @Chateau_de_Londigny
      @Chateau_de_Londigny ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello Sophie,
      thank you very much for your interesting input. Where would you buy and why?
      After we went around the regions, we liked it in Central France but we like to hear opinions like yours. Thank you again ☺️

    • @SophieMichel-mc7ej
      @SophieMichel-mc7ej ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Chateau_de_Londigny Central France is not appealing to us, hence the low prices. People do not go there by choice but because of the prices or because they have to move for work.
      The less populated départements are in Central France.
      Countryside is wonderful and beautiful but is not always all roses, especially in the middle of nowhere when cold and muddy.
      Very rural zones go with the "rural mentality"!!!!!! LOL!!!! But it is the same in all the countries 😉
      There is also the question of the weather.
      A vlogger in Normandy said that if you go South you are sure to have hot weather, but no. In Central France, Dordogne etc
      the summers are very hot and the winters are very cold. The winters are less cold in Bretagne, Normandy and North of France than in Dordogne and Central France.
      The hotest weather all year round is on the French riviera, Provence.
      A very unpleasant thing to consider is the heating bill. A lovely couple who owns a château and who is not begging and grifting on Patreon said they paid 15 000€ a year.
      A quote from a famous person who was born and grew up in Châteauroux "what to do in Châteauroux? Leave"
      If you liked Central France at Xmas time, it is fine, you will enjoy it. You passed the test.
      Where would I buy: I made a map but impossible to send it via utube
      Where not to buy, see www.regions-et-departements.fr/regions-francaises
      - Hauts de France
      - Grand Est. There are a few nice places (Colmar) but the rest is either very rural or industrial (or the remains of industries)
      I feel landlocked there (subjectivity)
      I would say not a good investment short and medium term
      - Ile de France; Paris and surroundings, no way
      - Bourgogne Franche Comté, no but not for the whole area
      - Auvergne Rhône Alpes
      - Provence Alpes Côte d'azur. Very nice places in Provence but far too expensive and sort of overrated, fake (and too hot for me but it is subjective)
      - Occitanie
      - Nouvelle Aquitaine , No apart from Charente maritime, Vendée. Very trendy and expensive areas there: Arcachon, cap ferret, Saint jean de Luz ... and they have and enjoy bull fights, ferias like in Spain (Bayonne). Cruelty towards animals is a non no for me. And again too hot
      - Centre Val de Loire, No apart Orléans and surroundings
      To help you make up your mind there is the question of "la taxe foncière" (+/- council tax). In some places it is extortion.
      Something else I would consider is "if one day we want to sell, what happens? easy? not easy? At what price?" In central France, expensive properties (châteaux) will sell the price you paid for them 10/15 years ago. It is a loss and a double loss because it means no added value and all the money spent for the renovations is gone in smoke.
      I have not watched yet all your vlogs. So far I understand that you want to buy a château to create a spa business, for local clients? For clients from abroad who would stay at the château during spas session? I know nothing about spas, I have already been to thalassotherapy but never been to a spa.
      Viel Glück (not quite sure of that one because I have not been practising for a while and declination and the verb at the end.... 🥵

    The problem with finding a place completely renovated can be a nightmare, as there is so much bad taste and disrespect to the materials used...dropped ceilings with spotlights all over, chesterfield type quilted walls for headboards, plastic crown mouldings and fresco's that look like the cheapest paint by numbers kits DO NOT CUT IT!!!!! and when they start in with all beige/grey/grege/blanc cassé/sea green/dusty rose/ powder blue....just any color used in a monotone is enough to make anyone with a minimum of taste and color perception above the normal feel violently ill....decorating after a movie of a famous personage from Hollywood with Hollywood Regency decoration as the set designers references would turn Madame Pompadour over in her grave round and round and round like a record baby,right round round round.....

      @Chateau_de_Londigny ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello Kevin, thank you for your comment. It’s true to say that some of the renovations went terribly wrong! Those historic places should be treated with a sense for its historical period. In the end people have their very own taste and sometimes not everyone will agree on their plans. It’s the same with people as well. Not everyone likes each other. We often have to accept the fact that we are all different with different opinions, styles and taste.
      Thank you again!

      @@Chateau_de_Londigny The number of places wearing a layer of cement from the 1950's up through the 2000's, and I'm willing to be there are still some people slapping it over granite and lime mortar walls as you read this!!! One question for you - will you sell it now and relocate to France while you’re searching for a property? It seems like it would be better to be close to the area you want to live so you can see properties when they are listed and be in a position to negotiate quickly. I’ll be following your story 🥰

    Thanks for the update. As a new "friend", I for one would be very interested in what you do leading up to your return to France in May.
    Normal Aussie living aside, will you find things & create sort of a mood board for your image of your Chateau?
    Does being a Virgo (I don’t know any) & your desire for "near perfection & symmetry" spill INSIDE the house as well?
    If so, you may need dial a doc because that may prove a bit frustrating.

    Welcome back. Glad you guys had a good trip. It seems that you have the right mindset in that you will have to look at numerous properties and it may take a while. I looked at more than 20 properties over a 3 year period. One seller backed out of the transaction after we signed the Compromis de Vente which was a disappointment. The good news is I flew over from the US a few days ago and will sign the Acte de Vente to purchase my property tomorrow afternoon and receive the keys. The champagne is chilling now. SWOT analysis; followed by 10 more brutally honest SWOT analyses is my considered advice . Can’t see your current Ozzie /German definition of a rural wellness retreat transposing very successfully to cosmopolitan central France . There must ALREADY be many boutique hotels & beautiful historic manoirs within comfortable distance of Paris offering such experiences. Unless you have millions to spend on a beautifully stylish chic comfortable building , w guarantee of proficient , experienced wellness staff nearby , I worry you could be making the same expensive mistakes many other expats on YT have by following their dreams without a thorough business plan .
    Could u share more ab the one u ran in Berlin ; photos, etc so your vision is a bit clearer ...& how different or similar you want the French business to be . And why France, etc . SWOT, SWOT, SWOT . Unless, of course , money & time is no object
