    So glad I found your video. I’ve been searching for a very black pastel. Then you showed your NUPASTEL Prismacolor box. I realized I had the same box (tucked away since 1997). And there it was .. in the box, the darkest black.

    Thank you so much for this Jason 🙂 I found a box of Nupastel sticks I never used and used both the white to brighten my whites and the black to darken my black and I was really pleased with it. I am so happy to know that I for once have the right product 😀

    I have Carbothello, Pitt, Derwent,, Conte, Cretacolor, Kohinoor Gioconda and CaranDAche and fine that the CaranDAche si the darkest black pastel pencils. But i do still go to a soft charcoal pencil if I need an even darker black.

    I realize this is pastels, but loved seeing the difference in blacks. I recently ran into a situation with trying to find a great black/brown colored pencil and it was incredible what the differences were! I ordered numerous brands and got lucky. thank you.

    This review was fantastic and so helpful! Thank you. I saw you have a review of white colored pencils but not pastel pencils. Would you consider doing this, or maybe you cover it in another review I missed. No one on you tube has a white pastel pencil review.

    Jason, thanks for the excellent review. Just FYI, yes everything was showing up really well on your video, greyer blacks looked grey, black blacks were definitely black (Lyra, Nupastel, Pitt Charcoal). The reference photo was very clear as well. At least you can use the other "blacks" as dark greys. Now I'm going to check the blacks I have, mostly the same as the ones you have reviewed but I don't have the Lyra, and I only just got the Nupastels so I didn't realize there was a really black "black". Again, thanks for helpful info, very much appreciate it.

    Terry Ludwig's Eggplant (not in pencil form) is a force to be reckoned with though it is not listed as black. Wolff carbon 8B too. However, I find it is best to mix your blacks, just as you do with acrylic/oil. Deep violet or deep blue base.

    I'm not an artist, I just wanted to know if the rembrandt black pastel was a good one, because it was the only rembrandt pencil that was available in my local store and I wanted to have something of that brand in my collection of almost children's pencils/or artist wannabe xD Thanks to that I've found your amazing channel with great content ^^

    There's two different Pitt black charcoal. The tan one you have isn't as dark as the black one. It's the black coloured soft charcoal pencil you want. Testing them both against each other at home the black pencil is definitely darker than the tan coloured one. The tan coloured one is about as dark as the Pitt pastel black pencil.
    Try the black soft charcoal it's really black.

      That's true! Kohinoor Charcoal is also very black! It's darker than Faber Castell Soft black charcoal pencil, probably the darkest one.

      I have both FC pitt charcoal pencils and the tan one is the soft one and the black one is the medium one. And the soft one is the blackest so I'm confused with this comment

    • @5t4n5

      @@loati94 They both come in soft, medium and hard. Buy a black soft one and then compare the two.

    If you are still looking for the darkest pencil, of the ones I've tried so far the darkest is the Koh-i-noor Gioconda extracharcoal 2 (2 = soft, there is also 1 which is extrasoft but I can't find it in pencil form, only stick). To my eye the Gioconda extracharcoal 2 is darker than the Lyra Rembrandt Black Pastel and even darker than the Pitt Soft.

    • @31leoceara
      @31leoceara 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Wow. If it's darker than Pitt soft, then it's really dark! Pitt is the darkest I have used so far. And it has a nice property that none of the other charcoals I tried has: if you want it to get even darker, just lightly wet the paper. It will get pitch black when you use the Pitt charcoal over the wet area!

      Even though I don't use water with charcoal I'm definately gonna try this. Thank you!!
