I am not a regular quilter and with my current quilt which is the hoodie/T-shirt quilt I pressed the light towards the dark seams. Where I have two fabrics of different thickness next to each other, I press towards the thinner fabric to reduce bulk. Where I have two thick fabrics, I press it open. Because I’m hand sewing and quilting, I have to be mindful of how I will quilt when I eventually get there. And because my quilt is queen size and reversible, I realise how inexperienced and ambitiously complicated I make things 😂

I understand this more than I can say. I’ve only been quilting for about 8 months. I’ve been sewing for over 52 years. But I quickly found myself compelled to quilt the more complicated blocks/patterns. Now, I’m intentionally looking towards easier, cleaner patterns. So I’m experiencing a range. Happy sewing 🧵!

Sounds like you’re on the right track with what you’re doing. Yes you have picked something complicated, I did too on my first quilt! I picked a Lemoyne star pattern which is eight pointed stars with Y seams. The easy one had only eight diamonds in it and then they got harder from there, A friend of mine‘s mother-in-law said that’s not a beginner quilt! ! I said I know, but it’s what I want to make. And I did! And I’ve been having a blast ever since!
