    I am so grateful for this video. I have a quilt for a gift. I used a decorative stitch to bind and the receiver wants to hang. I sure didn’t want to tear out those stitches and this method worked beautifully

      I never do that but it would prevent accidently putting the rod through in the wrong place. Good idea!👍🏻

    What an interesting method . I'll have to study this to see exactly what I'd need for 1 block as I'm on a mission at this time of year to use up left overs so I only carry over a very small scrap stash to the next year.

    • @SweetheartQuiltDesign

      That’s a good plan! For one block, cut from each of the dark and light fabrics, a 2 1/2” x 10 1/2”, a 4 1/2” x 10 1/2” and a 6 1/2” x 5 1/2”. That allows a 1/2” for straightening when you cut from your strip sets.

    For beginners would you recommend sewing on top to bottom..then measure and cut the bottom just to be on the safe side?😂

    • @SweetheartQuiltDesign
      @SweetheartQuiltDesign 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I’m not exactly sure what you’re asking. You want to measure the length of your quilt, cut both side borders to that measurement, pin them on, sew them on and then press toward the borders. Then measure the width of the quilt including the side borders you just sewed on, cut the top and bottom borders to that measurement, pin them on, sew them on and press toward the borders. You don’t want to just sew on borders without cutting them to the right length and then trim them off. If you do, your quilt will stretch as you sew and your borders will be wavy. They won’t lay flat and smooth. Does this help?

    It is worth noting that *any* time you sew strips to frame blocks or motifs, you must match the lengths of opposite sides of those strips as well. Medallion quilts are essentially a series of borders and unless you use this process as you go, they will end up full of bubbles and ruffles.

    Why do you use such a wide sleeve? I would think that half the 8 inch would be large enough to accommodate even a one inch dowel.

    • @SweetheartQuiltDesign
      @SweetheartQuiltDesign 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The 8” is folded in half so it’s 4”. You want the front to lay flat so the sleeve needs the extra length to accomplish that. The circumference of a 1” dowel is 3.1415… so 4” total wouldn’t be enough for the front to lay flat, it would curve around the dowel. You can experiment with this by just pinning the sleeve on and see how you like it. I’m always experimenting and trying new ideas. 😊

    • @SweetheartQuiltDesign

      Yes, I put pins from the front through to the fold in the back so I’m lined up when I sew.
