    I think we're more likely to see a tactical rather than an all out speed race in the men's 1500m. Imo the 800m is the race where a WR might happen because these guys are not going slower in the Olympics because enough of them are super fast that even in the semis they will need to be fast to get through, and in the final they'll need to set the track on fire. In contrast I expect slower speeds in the rounds of events like the women and men's 400mh and men's 1500m where there's only 2 or 3 who can go super fast. I agree they were impressive races from Rai Benjamin and Quincy Hall, apart from Grant Holloway many Americans don't replicate their fast track Eugene times when they race in Europe.

  • @ToddNakamura
    @ToddNakamura 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Heading into these Olympics, I think the sprints are about as wide open as I can ever remember. Noah Lyles has to be the only true favorite, other than Sydney in the 400H, if we count that as a sprint.
    Sha’Carri also should win, but she’s probably going to make the final fun like usual with some kind of slow start.

    Jakob has made himself the favourite again - racing in championship rounds is harder than running with pacemakers, maybe Jakob will choke again - who knows?
    Anyway the Olympic 1500m final isn't just Ingebrigtsen vs Kerr - it's totally disrespectful to the other top 1500m runners - one of them could also be in the right place at the right time!

    • @EricS-uf9mv
      @EricS-uf9mv 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Exactly. "Distance Runner" in terms of track is 3K and up. But really it's 5K and up. But in terms of ACTUAL running (like road running), NOBODY even considers the Mile as an endurance event. It's a pure sprint. HELL... nobody even views the half marathon as an 'endurance'/'distance' race anymore! At just over one-hour of running, 13.1 miles is no longer a strength based race. It's pure speed, and you're closing the final 5-10K absolutely flat out these days.

    • @crimsonreaper835
      @crimsonreaper835 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@EricS-uf9mv
      Why do you consider road running "ACTUAL running" and track not? The majority of the best road runners come from a track and cross country background, like Kipchoge, Bekele, Gebrselassie, and so on. Road specialists are becoming more common now, but guys like Kiptum are still outliers.
      To be clear, if the mile wasn't an endurance event it would make absolutely no sense for Jakob to be able to successfully train for it with high volume and thresholds. Calling it a pure sprint when 60-70% of the distance is run aerobically is frankly quite silly, especially when even the 800 isn't a pure sprint either.
      I'm also not sure where you're getting that the half marathon is a pure speed race when even the guys running 57-58 minutes are still only slightly above their threshold. It absolutely still is a strength based race that requires long runs and high mileage to excel at... which is traditional long distance training.

    • @crimsonreaper835
      @crimsonreaper835 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      This marathon superiority mentality is just strange - I'm not sure you really understand the level of aerobic capacity and running economy required to be elite at the 1500-5000? Jakob doesn't have to race those distances to be a "true distance runner" when he runs 115 miles per week year round long with a 1:15 half as his Sunday long run. Josh Kerr has run sub 62 in the half for his 1500m training and Kejelcha has run 57:41 a few weeks after an entire season of 5000m track training. It's still the same sport.

    • @EricS-uf9mv
      @EricS-uf9mv 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@crimsonreaper835 You can wax poetic all you want, it STILL won't magically reclassify the 1500m as an ENDURANCE EVENT. All your yammering about training is irrelevant. We aren't talking about training. We are specifically talking about the EVENT the INDIVIDUAL competes in. I don't give a damn if the man runs 135mi/week. He still isn't the greatest ENDURANCE RUNNER on the planet because he doesn't COMPETE in endurance events.

    • @crimsonreaper835
      @crimsonreaper835 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@EricS-uf9mv No one is waxing poetic here, just listing facts, statistics and science. If the 1500m isn't an endurance event, then that means it doesn't require endurance? In terms of physiology, the 1500 is more similar to the marathon than the 400, yet it is still a sprint... Perhaps you should share this groundbreaking discovery of yours with all of the elite coaches and training groups of the world so they can wrap their minds around this. Because clearly, you know more about this subject than they do.

Ingrebritsen is a generational talent, and I’m so looking forward to the men’s 1500 final. Highly likely not only an Olympic record, but also sub 3:30. With Kerr’s closing speed Jacob will likely have to take it out fast. Also, Cheriyut is back running fast, and his best strategy for a medal, I believe, is also to take it out fast. Good thing for Jacob the 5000 comes after 1500 completes. So hard to win both when the competition is so good! Could we see low 1:41 in 800, and low 3:27 in 1500? I think we could

    Maybe below 3,000 meters.
    But I consider “distance” in track as anything over 3,000, instead of 800 meters. Less than 2 minutes has nothing to do with distance.

    @jzkramer 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

    People have short memories or a shallow grasp of history. Only nine years ago Kiprop ran a faster 1500m time at Monaco without the pacers. The fastest distance runners in the current crop are the women.

    Yep Josh Kerr. Ingeb has a lot of imbalance in his running style and a lot of people would agree to that you don't need to be an expert just watch the replays how many times he desperately lost to Kerr.

      @JumpmanTF  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I would usuall outright disagree, but I could see an argument. Only thing is do we also ban pacing?

    • @acct5910
      @acct5910 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@JumpmanTF You can't really do anything about pacers because a runner can always use a teammate in the race for help early. Pacing also has a long history of use and acceptance in the sport. I think its generally accepted because a pacer cannot carry a runner the entire race, and the runner has to finish on their own when its most difficult. Wavelight just removes so much of the mental aspect of pushing for a WR. Knowing exactly where you need to be is such a big advantage.
      Wavelight is really cool, and I like the idea of using all tools available to push the world record limit, but if wavelight wasn't also great for the spectator, I doubt they would have ever considered it legal. I don't blame them for doing what they can to try to generate interest in the sport, but they should at least indicate whether a WR was obtained with wavelight with an asterisk or new category.
      But if pacing is fine, and wavelight is fine, then they should let people do what Kipchoge did and have teams of pacers rotating in, with wavelight pacing, and see just how low some times can go.

    I think jacob is the best if he gets a pacer like cheryuiot, but he cant sprint like kerr i think. Ingebrigtsen is not a easy win tbh

      Its crazy how confident we all were on his 200, till bednarek went crazy at trials. Odds are in favor of lyles, but 0/2 could happen. And it would make sprint 2 very funny haahaha
