I'm a Brit and very patriotic, but Kerr has a long way to go to match Ingebritsen's achievements, as does Crocker, and all his other rivals. The way Jakob easily won the 5000m was simply majestic. So perhaps Kerr should dial down on the cockiness until he's got more to be cocky about.

Who cares what the record is since 2018? The point is that it's a rivalry now and right now I can't tell you which one will win Olympic gold (maybe neither). These kind of rivalries are exactly what athletics needs. We have another one between 3 of them in the women's 800m. I love it.

@@PavelDatsyuk-ui4qv I've lived in the USA my whole life and I was surprised by how American his accent was. Try being less of a dickhead, it does wonders.
Pass is irrelevant - the rivalry is now because Kerr is only good enough now..... of course it is. These two could be the best 2 milers who ever lived. Special times and we should enjoy it.
I watched the Bowerman mile in person, I actually applaud Jakob for showing up when it was very clear that his training cycle is very different from Josh’s, and Josh was much sharper at the time because of British championships. I don’t think this win for Josh means he’s the favorite for gold in Paris.
I love how much attention Kerr has spent making this a rivalry. He has lost almost every race against Jakob, and while he did win the last two, which is commendable, it just feels as if it’s way to early to say that this is a proper rivalry. Hopefully Jakob can be a bit more graceful in defeat (although he is doing his interviews in a second language), perhaps Kerr could learn to be a little graceful in victory.
Not true Jakob doesn't "see" kerr @ all----- Kerr is just an annoying caricature of what he hopes to gain,a would be... All true champions, def not kerr, are 180 degrees different from every perspective, especially attitude. Take El gueroj, he's a genuinely nice guy, caring ,humble, devout, double WR holder. Then look @ Kerr? He's a clown by any possible comparison..A BIG MOUTH WANNA BE CHUMPION. No matter the outcome of Paris,Jakob will continue on & get both the mile & 1500 WR's.Wait 4 it. Done.
Fact: Jakob has two more Oly gold medals than Josh will EVER have, cuz by 2028 there will be a buncha youngsters in the mix. Also, both are great athletes, but I was happy that Cole Hocker spoiled their party.
Being honest without knowing anything I thought Kerr was “winning” this rivalry but the more I look at it Jakob is winning. Jakob has the Olympic gold medals and he is always racing all year long, meanwhile Kerr only races a few races a year on top form. Yeah my eyes been opened, Kerr is the bigger choker.
Jakob also has the World Records for 2k, 3K and 2miles (also the 1.5k indoors). That's 4 world records 💀 And he seems to be still improving this year. (He also has yet to start going for bigger distances... he probably will shine more in 5k, 10K and half marathon once he focus on that in a few years. Which is absolutely insane since again.... he already has 4 WR.
It always feels worth mentioning to me, that it many of these races, Jakob is in fact the pacemaker. At 2023 worlds he lead most of the race, he is certainly doing the brunt of the work, and still performing very well, and Kerr is completely ignoring that in all of his comments. Josh Kerr lets everybody else do all the work and then kicks the last 200, which while a successful race style, is arguably not as difficult as what Jakob likes to do, which is race out front. Granted at the Bowerman Mile, Kerr did take it with 600 to go, which was an excellent move.
I mean, if they're there to race then the better runner is the one with the better strategy, not the one who paces the most. Jakob knows he's fast when the pace is more consistent, but he's not the best finisher. He needs to put more light between himself and the rest of the field in the first half if he wants to get close in Paris.
@@katy3901 Certainly, he does incredibly well when someone else or himself in some cases takes it out very fast, but you are right in your previous comment, if the pace is inconsistent he struggles a lot more. Unfortunately for him most of his competition, Kerr, Wightman, Hocker, Neguse, and others all do better in a more tactical scenario and have a better kick than Jakob. Jakob is certainly a better 5k runner than those men, but they are all true 1500m specialists whereas Jakob probably isn't, he is just so aerobically strong that he does well anyway
Tbh jake wightman won bowerman mile 3:47 going out hard in may is insane for him 3:50 Mile for Jake = 3:29 low 1.500 3:47 Mile for Jake = 3:26 Olympic Champion
If it was a real rivalry Kerr wouldve shown up at the European championships but he was too busy cycling PEDs, how is he going to be "in shape" for the Olympics if he takes part in the Euros?... meanwhile Jakob is diving over the line in the diamond league and taking the European crown.... Plus Kerr keeps going after obscure rarely run records like 2 mile 1 mile etc rather than making any real interest like matching Jakobs 1500 times
Because he's on a different cycle to Jakob. Kerr has done plenty of high profile races. Since winning at Budapest, Josh has ran in the 5th Avenue Mile, did a half-marathon in San Diego, did the 2 mile at Millrose, did the 3000m at World Indoors, and the Mile at the Pre Classic. Ducking PEDs my ass. He'll be at British trials in the 800m and probably do a 1500m/mile before the olympics. Honestly this is just bizarre hatred and shows your lack of knowledge. Jakob has went for obscurer rarely ran records too. He literally went out to set the 2-mile outdoor/outright world record at a Diamond League meet last year! Jakob is the one that's ducked meets according to your logic - he didn't go world indoors! There's a 1500m at Monaco and a week later there's a mile at London. I bet both duck each other. Josh could go for his home crowd in London and I bet Jakob goes to Monaco.
@@shaun__3 It isn’t a diamond league discipline, hence, it wasn’t televised. If you ask anybody that knows anything about track and field they will tell you how iconic that record was. Daniel Komen was no joke, and it lasted 20+ years.
Kerr sure seems to spend a lot of time thinking about and talking about Ingebrigtsen, yeesh, just enjoy your win man. Its like the guy lives in Kerr’s head.
It seems to work though, he keeps beating him. However, it probably cost him the Olympic gold. If he'd let him go just a little further ahead, he would have had the strength to hold off Hocker.
I think whats happening is that Kerr and Ingebrigtsen are much more evenly matched then as shown by the racing history so far. The only reason kerr was struggling to match ingebrigtsen in the earlier years is because at the time Kerr had just completed college, and was only beginning to start his pro training, whereas jakob had been training pro since he was 17. In the future to come this rivalry will definitely become way more interesting, and the 2028 olympics as of now imo is very up in the air as to who will come out on top.
The 2028 Olympics will most likely be won by the likes of Niels Laros now at 19 years of age, Hobbs Kessler at 21 or Cameron Myers at 18 (or some Kenyan phenom who comes out of nowhere as they often do). It's rare to repeat in the 15 at global level and even more so in Olympic cycles.
I mean Jakobs PB is nearly 2 seconds faster than Kerr’s and has 7 races with a faster time than Kerr’s PB. Once he’s back into shape I don’t think Kerr is really gonna stand a chance.
I would like to agree with your assessment overall. And nice video that you put together. Just to reiterate some of the things that you said at the end that I tend to agree with. Obviously Josh has a couple of very nice races in recent history I still believe Jakob is better and he also wasn’t in peak form last race. You could argue the last two races because he said that he had a sore throat. That’s up to anyone whether they believe that or not. But I think pretty much anyone should believe that he probably should not have been peak shape for this last race after being injured for eight months. So I would say it’s pretty incredible that he still wasn’t very far off.
It doesnt matter whatever somebody was running 9 months ago. If someone is full steam ahead coming for your ass and beating you where it matters, it is an authentic rivalry.
your delusional thoughts thinking Kerr is in the lead when Jakob ingebrigtsen has 2 olympic gold medals in 1500m and 5000m🥇and many more achievements than Kerr. Kerr is the arrogant one who has yet to prove himself❗
@@filipe_paixao Not sure what you mean by that? If you are saying that Ingebrigtsen has run faster, times, well, yeah, but only when there is a skilled pacemaker going at exactly the pace he needs. Otherwise he will always get beaten on the sprint.
Jakob had an interesting strategy for the Olympics which was to gas himself setting the pace for 90% only for the fresher runners to overtake him on the final straight. Not sure why he thought that was a good strategy but it did allow for the winner to set an Olympic record!
He has a worse sprint than Kerr (and in Hindsight, Hocker and Nuguse too), so his best bet was to try to tire them out to reduce their sprint power or create a gap before they reach sprinting distance. Fact is, Ingebrigsten was just weaker than his 1500m competitors that day and lost. His strategy may seem like a bad one, but the result would likely have been the same if he had taken it easier. Hopefully for him, he can redeem himself with a 5k gold
@@soundninja99 I disagree, if he'd gone a bit slower he'd have got a medal, probably silver behind Kerr. His strategy was alright, but he executed wrongly by burning off too fast. At the minute he's just not good enough over 1500m to beat Kerr. Kerr shouldn't have followed him as closely, then he'd probably have had enough in his legs to hold the gold from Hocker.
@@gyorkshire257 that's a fair point actually, but in hindsight. He underestimated Hocker and Nuguse which is understandable because most people did. Hocker even said in an interview that he understood why people underestimated him, but knew he was in a better form than he's been in, and that he's worked on his kick. The tactical blunder he did was thinking he was only racing Kerr and Kerr's blunder was to only race Ingebrigtsen
@@soundninja99 I think so, even as a GB supporter I was pleased for Hocker because it was clear the big 2 lost because they thought they were racing each other.

As much as I love watching them go back and forth, right now this is a rivalry in the same sense that Maria Sharapova and Serena Williams was a rivalry.
I reckon that Jakob doesn't get enough credit for his results in the 5000m. I guess it's treated like it's his second event because he isn't close to the world record, but in race situations he keeps winning.
Honestly I think they both need to chill. Its not a great look to flaunting around after losses like Jakob, but Josh is definitely talking an awful lot given their life time head to head at this point

Good vid, You’ve got to make one on Shane cohen and his insane kick in the 800m. He had the same sprint finish at east regionals, semis and finals and all were prs.
Great job on this vid. Yeah, Jakob is one of the best the world has ever seen and Kerr is out to get him. From Jakob's point of view, there is no rivalry. But maybe there will be going forward. For sure, Jakob wants competition. Your video came too early to catch Jakob's 3:26.7 in Monaco. This olympic final is likely to be the best field ever assembled. Kerr, Nuguse are Tim Cheruiyot are top contenders. Anything can happen on the day. If Kerr beats Jakob and wins the Olympics and DL final and runs a 3:26 1500 this year, we got ourselves a bona fide rivalry.

I love it.
Perfectly said. Kerr seems to be entering his prime years, progression is never linear. Hopefully this rivalry keeps up

There is no rivalry. Just Kerr’s big ass butthurt mouth. Jakob has smashed the dude!

I didn't realize how light Kerr's Scottish accent was. In some of those clips he sounds downright "American"
I met him at Oregon relays and he really did sound almost American
He did have his whole college career in the US, so he might've lost some accent then
I spent 2 and a bit teenage years in the USA, and I was totally a yank by the time I returned to the UK. Very easy to pick up an accent (particularly American) at a young age and socialising/working every day. I should add that Edinburgh folk (depending on class) have a rather light accent.

That's 4 world records 💀
And he seems to be still improving this year.
Your comment is interesting, though, because Jakob seems to struggle much more in the races without other pacers.
@@bituminouscole I think you've hit the nail on the head there

We need a video on the crazy race we had yesterday 🎉
Rivalries are good as athletes will push each other further that way.
The times that jacob has been beaten he had also ran heats in the 5000m

It seems to work though, he keeps beating him. However, it probably cost him the Olympic gold. If he'd let him go just a little further ahead, he would have had the strength to hold off Hocker.
Kerr is arrogant. The only reason Ingebrigtsen doesn’t like him is because he’s arrogant as well…and Kerr seems a threat to his medal chances.
Thanks for the video. I've been looking for a video exactly like this on this topic ;)
@malehumanperson7901 yeah, I think by 28 Jakob will probably focus on 5k or maybe even go to 10K.
His best distances are probably going to be 10K.
I mean Jakobs PB is nearly 2 seconds faster than Kerr’s and has 7 races with a faster time than Kerr’s PB. Once he’s back into shape I don’t think Kerr is really gonna stand a chance.
It’s not easy to have to lead most of the race and hope stronger kickers fold.
@@bluerfootand like they mention in the video, a lot of those fast times had pacers, as all events hoped Jakob would follow it through for a new WR
Brakence instrumental. Makes a great video even better

Coming back here after the Olympic final 🍿
