How to Increase Lung Capacity, More Oxygen and Healthy Long Life | Dr. Mandell

  • Your lungs are part of the respiratory system, a group of organs and tissues that work together to help you breathe. The respiratory system's main job is to move fresh air into your body while removing waste gases.
    Why are lungs important?
Every cell in your body needs oxygen in order to live. The air we breathe contains oxygen and other gases. Once in the lungs, oxygen is moved into the bloodstream and carried through your body. At each cell in your body, oxygen is exchanged for a waste gas called carbon dioxide. Your bloodstream then carries this waste gas back to the lungs where it is removed from the bloodstream and then exhaled. Your lungs and respiratory system automatically perform this vital process, called gas exchange.

I smoked for thirty years. I quit seventeen years ago. At first my lungs were very hollow and had many pockets of stale air. I concentrated of exhaling as fully as possible similarly to what this video describes. I could hear the rattling and popping as the pockets would release that old air. It became a fun challenge to see how many trapped pockets I could clear. The effect was immediate and noticeable. As my lungs began to cleanse themselves this practice brought continued rewards. Some of the larger pockets didn't clear for months after I quit. What a surprise and what a reward ! After seventeen years I still do this cleansing exercise from time to time and the popping and rattling has greatly diminished. My lungs do not thump hollow anymore as they did when I first quit smoking. I know my lungs are working quite well.
It was well worth the difficult withdrawals. Take courage, after a few weeks you won't even think about smoking anymore. Just remain determined to stick it through to the other side. The cravings will become weaker and less frequent until you have forgotten about cigarettes entirely.
Quit before you turn forty if at all possible but no matter what your age ask yourself if you want to die a defeated person, defeated by a mere chemical? Gain the victory for victory's sake and take heart the difficulty will TOTALLY pass in short order. About three weeks should do it.
    ..

That's why actively practicing singing has given back to me the lung capacity and most of the lung function I lost two years ago when I was accidentally poisoned and suffered a 10% loss of lung capacity and function. Music. It does a lot more than just make you feel better !! Now I know how it did it and now I understand exactly why!!! Thank you so much, Doc!!!

I was looking for breathing exercise and I came across your channel. years ago until now I got diagnose that I’m asthmatic and my allergy count on my body is double than normal human being. I get out of breath just walking short distance and almost I feel that I haven’t got oxygen in my body and so It make me so tired just trying to breath. Deep inside me I don’t think it’s asthma, as I’ve tried different inhaler and I don’t think they worked, I think it’s something else.
So from today I’m going to start to do this breathing exercise to strengthen my lungs and get more oxygen inside me 🙏🏾 wish me luck ☺️
Your other videos are very interesting to but I do my lungs first.

I have just increased my lung capacity just by reducing my weight as I’ve lost 40 pounds in the last 50 days!
I’ve suffered many attacks from asthma but being overweight far to long.
My brother said I should try the carnivore diet because he had great success.
Folks it’s really tough to drop the sugar habit!!!😢 yes even sugar free products chemically engineered and stevia too.
But it has so many benefits rewards 😂

In reference to breathing and athletic situations there is much discussion argument and contrarianism. However, it is pretty much documented proof that increasing the percentage of inhalation volume through the nostrils rather than through the mouth Well number one greatly increase your bodies production and levels of nitric oxide, nitric oxide then helps to induce increased circulation throughout the systemic system by expanding all blood vessels, for those that don't understand nitric oxide helps vasodilation and overall circulation and is absolutely vital to mail penile erection, and this is basically what Viagra does, it increases circulation via increasing nitric oxide in the blood. Also there is a concept called Force breathing which works very well in aiding overall oxygenation and athletic performance particularly when the activity is taking place at higher altitudes. With the forest breathing concept theoretically you would be breathing in most of your air through your nostrils and you would be breathing out through pursed lips maintaining a slightly increased minimum alveolar partial pressure of oxygen at the end of your exclamation phase. I do most of my athletic activities and particularly my running at altitudes between 7500 ft and 10,000 FT elevation above sea level. When running or performing Athletics at a higher output levels I breathe in mostly through the nostrils but also supplement air flow through the mouth and exhale in similar fashion mostly through the nostrils but also through pursed lips maintaining a slightly elevated minimum po2 in the alveoli helping to avoid excessive drop in blood po2 during the exhalation phase. This is a type of force breathing that I have modified specifically to me and my activity level and it works just as well at sea level. Remember that by breathing as much volume as possible through the nostrils both inhalation and exhalation phase will overall increase blood oxygen levels by about 20% compared to breathing simply through your mouth or what I call Panic breathing trying to get excessive gas exchange to compensate for physical and mental stress. Also of course, using diaphragm full lung expansion breathing is absolutely necessary for Effective athletic performance, as well as in most normal situations
