My apologies if I've neglected to add tracklist and personnel. If you annoy me to a sufficiently high degree, I will certainly add them if I forgot. Unfortunately I am kinda a lazy piece of shit sometimes so this is the best way to get me to do things. BERNIE

One for Lenny is one of my all-time favorites. Such a great song. Truly a hidden gem on which all musicians excel.
My favorite venue of music by an all star cast with Danny’s playing just perfect Danny could obviously play anything he is my all time favorite guitarist for 20 years now what a great recording this New York stories is!
Great album, Great Musicians, RIP Danny, Charles , and Roy.
Volume 1.
So sad there is no volume 2.
Charles Fambrough is passed also?
@@tremunique6149 May he R.I.P, great musician.
@@tremunique6149 Yep. Too soon.
@@veeshead yes, I was thinking the same a long time. But at the end: it might be - it is somehow a coincidence that this work has remained a unique piece - a wonderful...
For the making of this rare, out-of-print gem from 1992 some stellar performers gathered in NYC to celebrate the time-honored habit of the studio jam session. The gentlemen in question were the great late Danny Gatton on guitar, Bobby Watson on alto sax, Roy Hargrove on trumpet, Joshua Redman on tenor sax (on his first recording), Franck Amsallem on piano, Charles Fambrough on bass and Yuron Israel on drums. The concept was that each musician would bring a composition to the studio where it was recorded in the least takes possible in order to convey that live feel. The results might not be of Miles' So What proportions (which was recorded in the exact same way), but these guys show the world what an accomplished jazz player knowing his chops can do in a spontaneous musical situation - a lot. Alas, this splendid idea from the Blue Note label is laying at the bottom of the Ocean of Great Jazz Ideas and a Vol.2 was never released, so we have to cherish Vol.1 we have here as much as we can.
Thanks so much for the background to this session. Perhaps, we are all at our happiest when we are spontaneous free spirits.
I’m gonna c if I can find a copy of it. I don’t hear guitar players working with horn players nearly enough.
I'm going to go out on a limb here and say ,I believe this recording is every bit as good and as astounding as Miles "So What" . And I absolutely adore that album. But I love this every bit as much and probably listen to it more times per year than any other Jazz recording.
@@stratcat9432I agree. As a DC native I saw Danny live in the 1980s. Amazing!
@InfoArtistJKatTheGoodInfoCafe Wow! I wish I could say the same thing. Out of all the guitarists and or fantastic bands I was blessed to have seen through the 1980s into the 90s.. Sadly Danny was not one of them. If he would have played anywhere within 500 miles of me, I would have though! What a gifted ,hardworking musicician Danny was.
And Franck Amsallem on piano. What am I, chopped liver?
Bravo!!! Absolutely not chopped liver - genius! You all worked absolute magic! Thank you 💖
You tell 'em, Frank! 😉🎶🇵🇷
Never had heard Danny playing straight jazz, awesome such a versatil talented guitarist.!!!!
I concur Sir !!!
What genre of music is he most known for? I know all the other players but I had never heard of him.
@@tremunique6149 country blues but he can do it all
@@ianadelstein42 he sure as hell can!!
Remember Danny Gatton great recording session at Unique in NYC w/great players
Thank you so incredibly much for posting this!!! Two of my favorite musicians taken too soon (danny and roy) on one record! ❤️❤️
Thanks!! Haven't heard this in about 10 years. Every bit as good now if not better. Everyone's great but Danny and Bobby soar!! Wonder if any other stuff from this session exists that didn't make the album...
Nope. I engineered it.
I bought this when it first came out. I love everything about it!
same with me
Damn, stumbled upon this by chance! I've certainly come into contact with your amazing uploads before but this was a nice surprise :)

@E Jazzy Amazon
I’ve had this cd for many years never get tired of hearing it especially Danny’s guitar work but the whole cast is brilliant it’s too bad a volume 2 was never made classic material
Thanks very much for the upload.
Love the whole disc but the segment starting with Wheel to Ice Maidens to Out A Day, has an amazing flow and the soloing on Out A Day is to me, the peak of the disc.
New to me - and wonderful.
beautful album !
I hope they’ll issue this on LP. CDs were king when this was released.
Good music just don't die ..
Amazing 👏
