Scar:
A scar is an area of fibrous tissue that replaces normal skin after an injury. Scars result from the biological process of wound repair in the skin, as well as in other organs and tissues of the body. Thus, scarring is a natural part of the healing process. With the exception of very minor lesions, every wound (e.g., after accident, disease, or surgery) results in some degree of scarring. An exception to this are animals with complete regeneration, which regrow tissue without scar formation.

what type of laser treatments will help with scars. Will you see much development after laser treatment?
There are several options, depending of exactly what you are looking to improve. There are lasers that can reduce the redness or darkness of scars, and also lasers that can flatten thick scars. You should be evaluated to see which is best for you. Many times a variety of lasers are used and it often takes several treatments to see full results.

Ive had a scar thats 15+ years old. I started eating healthier, getting more sun light and now its fading away. Crazy how you’re body heals when you give it the right nutrition.
It needs the appropriate material ie nutrition to do it's thing
I had a face-lift and used sunscreen and silicone gel every day for 4 months. It worked well.

Very good information, I had back surgery last week and i know when the staples get removed, it go to look like a mess. The surgeon was top notch, so this information will come in handy. My quest is we have come a long way from coco butter.

I just had stiches removed very small incision healing great De Quervain surgery but she told me to put cocoa butter. This silicone patch sounds very good. And I want to cover it too. thank you for the good suggestion.

This is very helpful. I had a muscle biopsy done about a week ago. I know I was able to shower after about 3 days however, since we are in quarantine and I am working from home I am still sponge bathing and the area has not gotten wet, The small tapes are still on it, but as one or two are slightly lifted I can see a horrible dark scar and it it starting to feel so hard to the touch! It worries me. I have my mederma ready!
How soon should we star this treatment? I am 5 weeks from my hysterectomy surgery and I received a T cut. It looks ugly and I don’t want it to completely heal the way it is. The surgeon did not take his time with the incision and he left me with a lot of work to do to fix it.

For your back, you'll need a utensil to put on any scar treatment... or a partner... or a kid...

I had stitches taken out about 2 weeks ago, and have some very heavy scar tissue forming is it to soon to get steroid injection or laser? When can you start massaging the scar tissue?
My doctor recommended 2-3wks....to start massaging the silicone scar cream daily or use the silicone tape as instructed on the package. The sooner the better the results will be. My surgery in 2days. Best of luck!

Dr. sorry this is long, but I feel history is important.... I’d like to get your opinion on something. I had a donut lift, and revision from bad scars. Both gave me bad hypotrophic thick rope scars around my areola. After 12 years I said the heck with it I’m not going to get them redone I’m going take the implants out and get a lift.
Sooo, I got a lollipop style lift. He didn’t cut under the breast. One breast he has to do a stitch because there’s a fold under breast where the pocket was. The doctor could not remove all the Old scarring believe it or not from my breast (there was that much) ...so I have old scarring and I’m trying to deal with new scarring from the lift. I went and saw my doctor constantly after the surgery it’s been 6 months I’ve noticed my scars are getting red Lifted and itchy.
My doctor suggested I start using the silicone sheeting. I hope it’s not too late. I will definitely wear them religiously... he told me to wear them for three months and then he will check and see if he can inject a steroid but he doesn’t want to do that right now (my skin is pretty thin) and has not suggested the laser at this point. I wish he would’ve suggested the laser. In 3 more months there’s a possibility of me getting worse, I KNOW, I went through it twice ....I’m sooo sad 😞.... any suggestions.... or how to ask my doctor about laser. What if my scar turned out to a keloid? Can I still use silicone gel to remove the keloid? I have had the scar a little over a month now and I feel discouraged by the look of my keloid. I started treating it with the scaraway silicone gel for a week now. I am not sure how much longer I have to wait to be completely removed.

Doctor I received stitches on my forehead after an accident. Can i use hydrocortisone 1% on it along with silicone gel? Would hydrocortisone for 3-5 days be helpful for the scar? Also my surgeon advised against using Vaseline. Whar do u suggest?
I had diverticulitis surgery on my stomach I have a couple of small scars how can I fade them I've been putting vitamin cream on vitamin e cream. Will that help
What about pure aloë vera gel? Will that help too?
There is no data to support that this will help with the scar, but I know some people claim it does.
i used vitamin e and it worked on my keloid scar from a gall bladder removal
I wouldn't recommend aloe Vera gel as it extremely dries your skin

Will mederma scar gel work? I have this cut scar thats about an inch long on my arm. It's about 7 months old and I wanna get rid of it. I've been using mederma since last 2 months
No. It doesn't work at all. Most products sold don't work for scars. I even tried silicone and it made my scar waaaayyyy worse. Nutrition and time is best for scars diminishing. Make sure you are getting enough protein, sulfur, vitamins, and minerals in your diet.
Can you use scar gel and the sheet at same time? For example, put the gel on and rub it in then the sheet over top.

I didn't know this, so didn't cover up a deep knee and elbow scar, they remain pretty red to this day 3 years on, hopefully they'll fade in time.
Can I use both silicone cream and when that has dried apply a silicone sheet for faster healing of a surgery scar? I usually apply cream morning and evening and let it dry for 5-10 minutes. Then I put the sheet on and wear it always eccept for when I take a shower. Good or bad?!

Hello Doctor. I have a forehead scar (accident with 9 stiches given in ER and as you suggested I did use silicone gel for almost 4 months) but later I did visit plastic surgeon as the scar started to look bumpy and swollen a bit (hard to touch/ not an infection). Surgeon checked it and concluded that there is a possibility of having trap door deformity like condition as the scar stitches were not done perfectly and asked me to keep massaging it with oil based materials for a month to see any charges if there are. He also mentioned that he was not sure if surgery can nullify the swelling part or after the surgery it will not appear again. What would you suggest I should do. (I understand without proper checking and consultation in person it is difficult to give a resolve on this but I am confused as what action needs to be taken here)
It is possible that the closure in the ER was not done perfectly. Skin needs to be closed in layers since good approximation of the deep tissue is key to a good appearance at the skin level. In fairness to the ER, it is hard to perfectly close traumatic wounds since the edges are not "clean cuts". It is not uncommon to do a surgical revision on the scar since we can often make it better by cutting out the old scar and re-suturing it.

the cyst from my knee did not form keloid, but actually it deepen. The scar is not bulky but flat it is hallow it did not grow anything inside. Than at my back is itchy. The stitch healed but there's part inside didn't close, so there was this tiny dot that was open just tiny dot and got infected. i took another antibiotic than it exploded so gross. It healed now but it's itching. Sometimes it's flat, sometimes it goes up and bulky and itchy. It's one year but still itchy. Now I have surgery near my eyebrows and nose, the near eyes healed but bulky with keloid, than the nose was the one who got broken and open a bit, it dehisce and the white trhead came out hanging. I can't pull it coz it bleeds, so i cut a bit. But I am not sure if this will close if there's something hanging out. I clean it and put antibiotic. The doctor doesn't like to reply and they don't answer me since it is government hospital they will never attend to me. SO I have to deal with my problem coz that is how government is they don't care what happens to you.
