We like to offer as wide a choice as possible and our courses start with a five-day intensive course that's entirely hands on. You'll be laying bricks right from the start and you'll be amazed what you'll be building by Day 5.
You'll start by learning how to set out building lines. Then move on to brick and block work and be taught to make sure your walls are square and vertical.
We'll teach you how to build a pier or pillar and a cavity wall and you'll learn the different types of bricklaying bonds.
We'll show you how to do pointing for face work, how to put in a damp course and work on widows and lintels.
The course will give you the skills and confidence to work on your own projects -- and if you'd like to build on your speed and technique we also have a five-day advanced course which also covers ornate brickwork.
Not everyone, of course, will be looking to develop this level of ability. You may, for instance just need the skill to lay a new patio or path -- so we also offer a two-day paving course.
If the time you spend with us gives you a taste for more -- maybe a career change -- Able Skills also provides training for a Diploma & City & Guilds bricklaying qualification.
Courses From five to ten weeks training will cover every aspect of brickwork -- all the skills you need to work in the industry. Then, with further support from Able Skills, you can work toward an NVQ.
We like to offer as much flexibility as possible and if you start training with us on an intensive introductory course and want to upgrade to a qualification course we'll just adjust your time and payment option to whatever suits you best.
For those of you who are time served
Bricklayers with no formal qualifications, Able Skills is approved to assess you both on a fast track basis to gain that all important NVQ This is known as Experienced Worker Practical Assessment and it can be possible to achieve the NVQ in 2 days. Able Skills is also approved to do site visits for the NVQ OSAT Route
