    Hey all, I tested the Griot's Ceramic 3-in-1 Wax at 3 months of pure durability and it's holding up extremely well! You can check out that video here: th-cam.com/video/Or1ip9iiq14/w-d-xo.html

      Kyle how accurate is your paint thickness meter? I calibrated it and get different readings each time which is maybe normal. I mean it can go from say 90 to 98 to 106 to 92.

    • @WaxMode
      @WaxMode  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jaykid007 Hey Jason! That kind of variance is normal, mine is a DT-156, it’s pretty accurate based on the calibration shims. I use mine more to confirm safety, if I’m in the low 80-100 range I really stop thinking about heavy compounding. And I use to confirm resprayed and bodywork, those numbers are much higher than factory measurements.

      The SiO2 concentration reminds me a lot of the % of carnauba used in waxes back in the Zymol days. Just have to find the products that suit your preferences regardless of how critical we are of the ingredients used in the formulas.

    Hello. I'm a new subscriber to your channel. Really fantastic content. I own enough cars that I feel as though I have solely supported Richard Griot. I swear by Griots products. I have also branched out into the Croftgate product line a bit. Finding a big difference in solid color paint and metallic paint, when treated with the same product and checked with my gloss meter. I had found Griots Best of Show Detailer to be my go to topper, until I tried Croftgate Endure XXL and finished off with a coat of Croftgate Quick and Slick. I could see a definite difference, mainly on the metallic paint. Listening to your comments on depth of color vs. gloss making a difference in what your eye sees is very much correct. You were spot on with the fact that gloss can have the same reading on both paint types, but depth of color and warmth can be more appealing to your eye. I will be supporting your channel from here on out. Thanks for your wisdom. Ed

      Thanks a bunch Ed, appreciate the feedback! I’ll do some research into Croftgate, maybe see if I can pick up a few of their products for testing. It’s very easy for viewers to misunderstand the glossmeter’s measurements, there’s so much more to paint enhancement than strictly “gloss”, and it’s tough to try and get that message across sometimes without a big lecture. Thanks for subscribing, hopefully I’ll have some more content out soon!

    I just applied this to my car and it’s the best the car has EVER looked. I’ve used Meguiars 3-1 all in one wax, Chemical Guys Butter Wet Wax, and now the Griot’s 3-1 Ceramic and by far the Griot’s has the easiest application and looks the best. I literally did my entire car at the vacuums at a car wash, because it had shade since I don’t have a garage, and I had the entire car done in 15 minutes. I’m letting it cure outside and I’m going to get up early, to avoid the sun to apply my second coat. There was one spot on my trunk lid that was in the sun so I very very quickly applied and removed the product and it seemed like it wanted to dry a lot quicker and streak so if you don’t have shade I’d defiantly do very small sections as it will dry in a second.

      Worry less about which specific products to use, if you're dipping your toes into detailing you need to understand the basic tenets of detailing: Wash, decontaminate, polish, protect, maintain.
      Car paint requires periodic mechanical decontamination through claying and paint polishing. On a daily driver, failure to perform periodic decontamination can lead to gloss reduction, and accelerated clearcoat oxidation and degradation.
      The rest is all moot, every single manufacturer has a proficient protectant and maintenance spray to get you through the next decontamination phase (usually 6 months to a year before decon is performed again depending on where you live). And you cannot expect to get the best results out of whatever protectants you select until the paint has been decontaminated and polished at reasonable intervals.

      Thanks Specky! You guys have some killer stuff over there in the UK as well that I wish we could get our hands on. A big problem for us with the stuff overseas is trying to get them to comply with our VOC laws, a lot of companies have to go out of there way to abide by stricter regulations so we lose out on some good products. But I'm loving the way the market is heading right now, more durable forms of spray protection while still being super easy to work with is the best product for consumers that don't have a lot of time to spend on the paint, but still want it to protect for a long time. I think this Ceramic 3-in-1 Wax is going to perform well.

    How would this compare to Megs Hybrid Ceramic Wax (the spray one) in the way of long term durability? I'm currently using HCW as a spray on, rinse off then use a drying aid like bead maker with dedicated drying towels. I recently picked up a bottle of Megs Ceramic Detailer to use as a drying aid, but I did see the Griot's 3-1 in Autozone at the same time. If the Griot's is just as durable, I might replace both with this to shorten my washing routine.

    • @WaxMode
      @WaxMode  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Meguiar's HCW lasted well into the 5 month range next to Turtle Wax Seal N Shine, degraded but survived without maintenance. Griot's gives a conservative estimate of 6 months out of Ceramic 3-in-1 Wax, so I'm looking foward to seeing how it holds up. HCW is definitely much different than the Griot's. Heavier, and it likes to be used wet once you have that foundation down, but also has a much higher hydrophobic limit compared to the Griot's. So for guys that like extreme hydrophobicity, you can't go wrong with HCW + the new Ceramic Detailer. If chemical resistance is more of your thing, the new Turtle Wax Hybrid Solutions Coating and this Griot's Ceramic 3-in-1 Wax will outperform Meguiar's in a fresh test against Strip Down, but they won't be as hydrophobic.

    • @WaxMode
      @WaxMode  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Meguiar's Ceramic Detailer is definitely more of your topper type of product. I would not personally make plans to run Hybrid Ceramic Detailer as a standalone protectant, which is something that you can definitely use the Griot's for. HCD is going to be much more hydrophobic in the short term, but the Griot's should outperform it in total durability in theory. I've got a batch of the Ceramic 3-in-1 brewing on some of the coatings on the blue Honda to see how it performs as a coating topper, so I'll have an update in the future once I get some results in.

    What are your thoughts on this vs the Adams ceramic spray? Im really liking the idea of having something that can last a few months if I need it to, especially through midwest winter months. But also something I can easily reapply over itself often the rest of the year.
    Would you recommend anything, be it wax, sealant, coating, etc... that would make my GM white paint look the most glossy and "wet" looking?

    • @WaxMode
      @WaxMode  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's a tough one, I REALLY loved the way that the Adam's Ceramic Spray Coating applied and buffed into the paint. I thought it was super easy, and it has lasted that 11-12 months on the rear section above IGL Premier, I want to say it felt even better than Griot's Ceramic 3-in-1 Wax in terms of application. The problem is I haven't tried their updated formula out, so I'm not sure if they ended up changing how easy it is to work with or not.
      White for me pops with the paint correction, fully decon'd, swirl free, I don't think it benefits from the oils in the waxes that aid in depth, so I've always preferred your more synthetic based protectants like Power Lock in the past. Both Adam's Ceramic Spray Coating and Griot's Ceramic 3-in-1 Wax should be awesome on white, not as much oils like Best of Show Spray Wax delivers, more of a crisp reflective appearance.

    • @WaxMode
      @WaxMode  4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      I really enjoy their paste waxes, Premium Carnauba Paste Wax, Best of Show Paste Wax, hard toss up between the two considering the price, but I would go with Premium as I got better durability out of it. Really easy on/off, both of them smell fantastic. I really like the updated version of Best of Show Liquid Wax, the older version was terrible on/off application, they bumped the quality up majorly on the update and it smells much better too.
      I use Poly Wax a lot when I'm working out in the sun, I've found it to be very workable in higher temperatures, super easy on/off, durability is okay, you need to maintain all of Griot's protection products on a regular basis to keep up on them. Best of Show Detailer is fantastic, LOVE that raspberry(?) scent and it leaves a super slick surface, very good for weekly/biweekly maintenace. Best of Show Spray Wax smells fantastic as well, similar to Sonax High Speed Wax, don't go heavy on the application but it's a solid spray wax. Those two are great maintenance products for the paste and liquid waxes. Rinseless Wash & Wax works great, nice Laffy Taffy grape scent, 1oz for 2.5gal of water, works solid.
      I'm reaching more and more often for Griot's Perfecting and Correcting Cream, when they released their BOSS lineup of polishers, pads, and abrasives, they knocked it out of the park. The abrasives are easy to work with, little to no dusting, wipe off is okay but one of my favorite features is the polishes actually smell pleasant. Not an obnoxious scent, just way better than most I work with. Great finishing capabilities and gloss. Haven't worked with the Fast Correcting Cream yet, a ton of guys have that as a go to compound compared to others like ACA500, Jescar Correcting Compound, Sonax Cutmax, etc. So I do want to get my hands on it eventually.
      The issue with Griot's, is I'm head on into full blown ceramic coatings. And so your enthusiast-based gloss-focused products that they offer have been sidelined by me in favor of testing products that are giving more of a WOW factor in terms of longevity and protection. This is why I'm very interested in seeing the capabilities of what Ceramic 3-in-1 Wax can offer, and whether or not I can adopt this product as a coating topper for some of my other coatings. But many of the products that I've used from Griot's have been very good, they've got ease of use down and the overall enjoyment level of working with them and smelling them always puts a smile on my face. Hopefully they pop out a super easy to work with paint coating in the future that we can complement with Ceramic 3-in-1.

    Hey buddy, another GREAT VIDEO! I always enjoy watching your videos and love your format and the way you review the products. You always try to keep your reviews objective and give your honest impressions which I, as a weekend detailing enthusiast, always appreciate. One note on the Griot's bottles and appearance of their products...OUTSTANDING. I think Griot's has one of the most "eye appealing" product lines on the market today. The bottles and lettering and the way they present their products just makes them seem like they are TOP NOTCH. Whether the products are great or not so great is in the opinion of whomever uses them, but you get the first impression they are great just based on how they are packaged. On appearance alone, I give them a 10 out of 10. I really enjoy some of Griot's products and their BOSS system from the polishers, pads, and chemicals in that system are FANTASTIC and user friendly. One product I wasn't too impressed with was their Rubber Cleaner. To me, it just didn't seem to get out all the browning from my tires or I had to do it 4 or 5 times to get the desired result which I didn't like. Many, actually MOST, of their products are great, especially for the average Joe like me doing my own detailing at home. Another product I do really like but they are too pricey in my opinion, are all of their microfiber products which are second to none in quality and durability. I love the bright green color they've used for the Ceramic 3 in 1, it's eye catching. I was really impressed with how resistant the Ceramic 3 in 1 wax was to the Poor Boy's stripping solution. Looks like the 3 in 1 is gonna be a really great product from Griot's. Another thing that appeals to me right off the bat, is the fact you can use the Ceramic 3 in 1 wax as a drying aide! That is a great feature of this product. Now I only need one product to accomplish two things. Every time you wash your vehicle, you hit the area with a mist of the 3 in 1 and use as a drying aide and your basically topping up the product every time, which can SIGNIFICANTLY increase your durability. You can probably get indefinite protection if you use it as a drying aide after each maintenance wash. Granted, you would probably still need to do a DECON procedure every six months or so anyway and re-clay, iron remove, polish, etc. to keep the vehicle looking great, but even so, that's a win-win to me just in the fact I can use 3 in 1 as my protectant product and my drying aide.
    ONE REQUEST I WOULD HAVE IF YOU EVER CAN DO IT. Xtreme Solutions POLY SEAL, against this Griot's Ceramic 3 in 1 in a head to head comparison. I've heard some great things about Poly Seal and would love to see what the results would be compared to the Griot's product. This would narrow down which of the two products would be better suited for my needs. Overall, from other video's on Poly Seal, it seems to be very comparable to Griot's Ceramic 3 in 1 wax.
    QUESTION: Where did you get that sprayer on your spray bottle? I know those sprayers come on the high end KWAZAR Mercury Pro bottles, but can you buy just the sprayers to my own bottles?
    Thanks again for all you do reviewing the various products. I know it takes a ton of your time and you do a great job.

      @WaxMode  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks a bunch Joe! Definitely agree with you on the aesthetics of the brand, it's top notch. Super clean, not too cluttered, I like how they incorporate the colors into their products as a way to market the attraction of the brand. I get their monthly catalogs in the mail and it's just so fun to browse through these, Griot's is like the quintessential enthusiast brand of car maintenance products. And they've got their scents down as well, so all those things paired up with their focus on ease of use, and I always get a tendency to want to slow down from the ceramics, let's get back to the basics and pull out the Griot's and just enjoy the process of waxing the paint by hand again.
      You're right as well, I'm not sure if I even touched on that in the video but the Ceramic 3-in-1 Wax is so simple to use that it doesn't need a lighter maintenance product, it can easily be applied over itself without being too heavy for regular maintenance that's not going to leave blotchy streaking behind. Very interested to see how this holds up in the long term compared to the other consumer ceramic-infused products released this year.
      The sprayer that I was using for Strip Down was the Chemical Resistant Dual Action Sprayer that I bought off Autogeek when they were running a sale on them. They've held up well except for the one that I use with Prep-All, that one turned into a leaky mess pretty quickly as the seals are most likely not rated for that type of solvent, you can use them on standard bottles: www.autogeek.net/hi-tech-chemical-resistant-sprayer.html
      I might have to take a look into Poly Seal, I know Brian at Apex Detail rated it very highly which piqued my interest, and if Brian likes it then you know it's going to have some serious performance with all of the products he tests. Always appreciate your feedback, glad you enjoy the videos!

I have seen Brian's videos as well and a few other channels (Miranda Detailing was one of them) and everyone who has posted something on Poly Seal raves about the product. You've definitely got me interested in Griot's Ceramic 3 in 1, so much that i'm ordering a bottle to try out and I know if it's got your brand of approval, then it's going to be a top notch product. I'll most likely buy a gallon after that and use this on my vehicles from that point on, especially as the drying aide, but also as the immediate topper to my wax or sealant. I use two products most of the time. Either Collinite "Super Double Coat" or Jescar Polymer Sealant. I like them both, mainly for the durability of the products. I've gotten really long durability out of those with the Super Double Coat edging out the Jescar, at least in my usage of the products. They are both fantastic and the Griot's Ceramic 3 in 1 will be the perfect complimentary product to them to keep a good base of protection on my vehicles. Thanks again.....all the best to you my friend.

      Wolfgang DGPS is more traditional, god tier application and wipeoff, but average hydrophobics and durability. Griot’s is stronger durability with two coats, better hydrophobics, but you have to be more careful during wipeoff due to its faster/more significant curing. I’m actually more likely to reach for DGPS because if I need the extra durability, I’ll just go with a full coating instead of the spray on hybrids, but my preferences are a lot different than most. DGPS is one of the best sealants that I’ve worked with in terms of application, fun and addicting to wipe off.

Mostly, I'm looking for something to protect my paint and make it easier to wash in the winter here in Seattle. Any idea how the 3 in 1 would compare to something like P&S Bead Maker? Also, I sub'd.

    • @WaxMode
      @WaxMode  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks a bunch John! Ceramic 3-in-1 Wax would be a great option to use as your main protectant, it's a lot different compared to Bead Maker. I consider Bead Maker as a lighter, not as heavy a protectant, and so it does really well to fit the role of a maintenance topper, and less of something that I would use as my main base layer protectant. Ceramic 3-in-1 is heavier, it will be much more hydrophobic and more durable, I can use it on a regular basis if I wanted to, or I can switch over to something lighter like the Best of Show Detailer for maintenance. I haven't tried Bead Maker on top of Ceramic 3-in-1 yet, I'm not sure if it plays well together, but I can't see it being an issue as I find many products like being topped with Bead Maker. I would say give Ceramic 3-in-1 Wax a shot, you're also fairly local to Griot's, have you been to their main store in Tacoma yet?

      WaxMode Thanks for your thoughts. Makes sense. I’ve used Bead Maker a few times, but it doesn’t seem to last and all I’m doing is washing it with ONR - nothing that would strip it. You’re right, I am relatively close to Griots HQ, but haven’t visited yet. Was thinking about it this weekend. I’m hoping to learn some simpler ways to maintain my car’s paint that’ll last.

      @@johnshipps441 Those of us that are fanatics of the hobby, we like to over-complicate the process and buy a bunch of products that we don't really need in order to get the job done, and companies have to come out with a bunch of stuff to try and meet the needs of everyone's different preferences. Really, I like to have that one product that I use as a main protectant, and then one separate product that is a spray that I can use for topping up on a regular basis after my washes, just to maintain some gloss and slickness and make sure that the main protectant doesn't become too damaged so it loses effectiveness.
      I think Griot's has done a great job and keeping it simple with the Ceramic 3-in-1 Wax. It can fill the role of using it on a regular basis after washes with it being a spray, or using it as a main protectant for a separate spray detailer to be used after washes for regular maintenance. @@johnshipps441 Matt at Obsessed Garage did a great in depth series on cheaper electric pressure washers and he did all the legwork to narrow down the choices, and he pretty much settled on the Karcher K1700 model for the performance. I have pretty much the Ryobi equivalent of that Karcher model, it's a 1.2GPM 1700PSI Ryobi.
      The thing about these electric pressure washers, is the guns and the high pressure hose lines that connect the guns to the units, the standard ones are absolutely terrible. I had my Ryobi for years and rarely ever pulled it out because it was so clunky, the hose would kink up all the time and it wasn't fun to work with. Then I watched Matt's series and his solution of upgrading the gun to an MTM or Mosmatic model, with all the quick disconnect fittings, and upgrading the high pressure line to a Kobrajet 3/8" hose, absolutely transformed the usability of the Ryobi. Then I picked up an MTM PF22 foam cannon and I use the Ryobi now every time I wash the cars.
      So I would research that, I would check out his site at www.obsessedgarage.com/collections/pressure-washing, and this will pretty much take any cheaper electric washer which is perfect for washing the cars, and transform it into something very usable. I grabbed the MTM SGS-28 gun, the quick disconnect package, the MTM 4 pack of nozzles, a 25' Kobrajet 3/8" high pressure hose (I should have got 50ft), and the PF22 foam cannon. It's around $300 for the upgrades including the foam cannon, but one of my best buys for the hobby.

      I've been wanting to get my hands on Zaino Z8 because of the reports I heard of how much gloss it could bring out of the paint, but haven't pulled the trigger yet. I've worked with Blackfire Midnight Sun Spray Wax and Pinnacle Souveran Spray Wax, and I actually liked Pinnacle better because it was noticeably slicker to me and my neighbor with his S550 Mustang agreed. Best of Show Spray Wax seems heavier than both Blackfire and Souveran, so you'll need a bit more time with the microfiber towel to get a clean wipedown, but I think it can compete on gloss and depth with Souveran. It will also be more hydrophobic as well. The detailer pairs perfectly with a lot of things, isn't heavy, nice and slick, smells fantastic, not super light or too heavy, just right for me.

      I’ve never had any issues with Prep-All and I’ve used it quite often and regularly on all the test cars and panels that I have. I’ve let it dwell for extended times without any damage as well, however you always want to test in a small inconspicuous spot first, as thin paint or paint where it’s rusting underneath but not through the top surface, paint on top of fragile bondo, these can all lead to the top surface having a potential negative reaction with stronger cleaners and solvents. There was recently a thread on Autopia where a 50/50 dilution of IPA caused some bubbling in a small spot.
      The only product I’ve used so far that did damage the paint on the test panels immediately on contact was Dupli-Color’s Prep-Spray aerosol formula.

I personally wouldn’t want to pair these up with each other, the Griot’s bonds very effectively to bare clearcoat and that’s how you’re going to extend its durability. And then I would maintain the Griot’s with a spray detailer like Speed Shine or Best of Show Detailer, and skip Butter Wet Wax. @@WaxMode thanks for the quick response. I am considering it...will the 16oz do a whole car....lexus es 350....looking for something easy to remove old toppers like carpro elixir, puris jade A68 reboot, tw hybrid solutions spray, c2v3,....and more...have been tinkering this year during the si02 craze....in your opinion will this do it.....also considering jim lafebers(dr beasleys) panel prime....not cheap tho. whatcha think

      @@johnketuroskey6293 You should be able to stretch around 2-4 applications out of 16oz on a standard sedan. You want to make even coverage across the paint, so if you spray effectively then you won't have to over load it up in one area to get it to work well, I'm most likely dumping way more than I need to as an example in this video. If it's not going to strip, dumping more on the paint is not going to be as effective as applying another separate application of it afterwards. Elixir is definitely one of those more resistant types of protectants, very resistant against Strip Down if it's fresh, if it's older it may be able to dig into it. Haven't tested C2V3 against Strip Down yet. Panel Prime from Beasleys seems more similar to something like Gtechniq Panel Wipe that you don't rinse off the paint, I definitely need to pull that out again to run testing with it, maybe this weekend to do a direct comparison with Strip Down's performance.

      @@WaxMode do u have his panel wipe??? would love to see a comparison test!! have u tried his ceramic wash??? when I met with him to discuss a few things I had the lexus washed while we talked and when I saw the car I was like "wow"...took some home for maintenance. I have used/tinkered with "a lot" of wash products - I have been using reset as my go to. his premium wash sounds like it is similar to reset - which was one of the things we discussed - but he stated he uses the ceramic in his wash services. it states u may only have to "lightly agitate" on second foaming.....as absurd as it sounds on a moderately dirty vehicle I have only agitated once in three washes.....keep in mind I am in Chicago/nw Indiana area with intense salt exposure. fyi - he is unveiling his new si02 polish this weekend at MTE....will be available in march

      @@johnketuroskey6293 Ahh I missed your comment, I was at MTE earlier today and I must have missed his booth! I haven't used his panel wipe, I came super close to picking up his coatings a few years ago to try them out, have you worked with those yet? I need to grab another test panel that I can focus purely on coatings with, I actually tried grabbing a few infrared curing lamps from Amazon, both of which came in broken which put a hamper on my accelerated curing tests.
