    Simple...Smart...Straight to the point. Some people try to show their intelligence and allow their arrogance to get in the way. You did a great job and did it like a buddy sharing his experience. Two thumbs up.

    Great video
    I’ve just bought an older yacht with Maxwell 2200 windlass and several winches (non tailing unfortunately) and this was easy to follow
    Cheers from Thailand

    Thanks, Matt - This video really helped us just now with our Maxwell 1200 problems.

      Ramon Venegas Did you ever get your answer? Mine looks like yours. No holes for the C-clip pliers.

    Matt, great informative video. Thank you. Do you have a video on gear box maintenance?

    Thank you! I just replaced the motor on my Maxwell 2200 and it worked great about 6 times, now it’s slow to start. I’ll clean it when it stops raining! Do you have a video on gear box maintenance?

    I”ve wondered how those were serviced. Do you keep a chart to remind you when things are serviced and to gather data for periodicity?

    • @LivingWithTheTide
      @LivingWithTheTide  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Harold Hofmann Hi Harold, the windlass is something we service as and when, usually once every two months. Since we anchor in sand mostly it doesn't need doing as regularly as when we anchored in seaweed etc. Other things like our engine we do once a year :)

    Question, if you are using a 5/16 chain and change over to 1/2 inch chain do you have to change the part that grabs the chain?

    • @clp1
      @clp1 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yup, you have to change the chainwheel aka gypsy. There are about 9 different chainwheels that go with this winch to serve different regions (where different chains are used).

      james michael yea really need them, hair leaves on an upcoming episode lol

  • @stanthology

    If you use black grease on your windlass, when you're done you can smear the leftover grease on your boots. If there's still more left, just smear it on your hair. It takes years off your appearance!

    Servicing RC10

    • @clp1
      @clp1 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Same motor and gearbox as the 1500, just different top works. More or less the same servicing (grease clutches, check oil, change seals if they're more than 3 or 4 years old to keep fresh rubber in).

    Mat - I give up! I can't find a tool to remove the retaining ring just before the chain wheel. I've googled it to death :-) How did you remove it?
    Here's a pic of ours. It is the same as yours? We have a Maxwell VWC 1200, from 2000.

      Hey mate, have a look in the "Obsolete Models" section of the Maxwell site: www.maxwellmarine.com/support_manuals.php
      The VWC1200 was discontinued back in 2006, from then on it's been the 1500, these guys have a later model (different gearbox and spacer tube but same top works). Best of luck.
