Don't Starve [Adventure] Maxwell Chapter Intros

- Finding "Maxwell's Door" in Survival mode will allow you to begin Adventure mode in Don't Starve. This is a pretty challenging mode. If you can survive all five of the worlds that are thrown at you then you'll be given the opportunity to replace Maxwell on the Nightmare Throne, setting him free in the world that you started and unlocking him for further use as a character in this video game. Here are some of the introductions to some of the worlds. The worlds are random and this is not a comprehensive list. In order to clear a world, you need to collect all of the things (box, crank, ring, metal potato, etc.) and assemble a special device.
"Hmm. Let's try something a little more challenging, shall we?" - Maxwell
Chapter 1: A Cold Reception
Chapter 2: The King of Winter
Chapter 3: Two Worlds
Chapter 4: The Game is Afoot
Chapter 5: Darkness

i find it funny how Maxwell goes from "Let's see how far you can go" to "Listen here you little sh-" in 5 chapters
I love how Maxwell slowly becomes more and more desperate to prevent the player character from reaching him, makes me wonder if he knew what would happen, and didn't want anyone to suffer his fate.

If Maxwell wanted to stop the player he would of gotten rid of the things

@@neveragain7424 Then why did Maxwell trap Wilson?
@@IamtheSpy2005 he didn`t want that
@@cogumelogostoso813 Yes and No. Why did he make Wilson build and activate the and portal, and then say he didnt want that?
Wilson: *dies*
Wilson after examining his own skeleton: Better him th... *wait.*
Yea
Lmao
It’s interesting seeing that the more desperate Maxwell is the more monster like his build gets and it’s kinda creepy
I think he's trying to use any means of discouraging the player (or in the canon, Wilson). He changes himself to appear more monsterish in a attempt to discourage Wilson from getting to him. That would also be why he tries to bargain with Wilson to get him to stop, why he tries to be rude enough to him to make him turn back, and why he takes drastic measures on the last world to make it hard for Wilson to continue.
It's quite fascinating how Klei did the story here.
@@ShadowSans666 Should be it
Is kinda hard to see if he wants Wilson to suffer or not because isnt known if this shadow is from Them or from Maxwell itself. I think it could be from them because Maxwell saw the shit he did a bit. A bit

Cringekid 07 There is another possible world that you can play in during these chapters: Archipelago. These worlds can also be generated in different chapters (few exceptions) so I’ll assume there are other possible interactions between Wilson and Maxwell, depending on the world and the chapter that it appears in. 🗺
Yeah i thought so, I had forgotten what it was called
HOUNDS!!
and then 3 hounds spawn
You get that if you get one of the following for chapter 3:
King of winter, The game is afoot, Archipelago, A cold reception
I love how height represents the power levels between the player and Maxwell in adventure mode, the further you get, the more even you start to become with him, to the point where he becomes deformed and shorter.
He's taller in chapter 5 then he is in chapter 4, if you flip between the two Wilson says the same size.
@@CockroachTheFoul yeah but that's the end he's already content with what is about to happen unlike before the epilogue where he's desperate to stop you.

Maxwell’s trying to be all big and threatening, while Wilson’s just asleep through it all. All that time rehearsing and Maxwell’s just ignored.
It's just sleep paralysis, Maxwell is imitating a sleep paralysis demon.
there is a theory that the reason why Maxwell act so desperately to prevent the player from reaching him is all an act. he has been trapped in there for eternity (according to him, also 8 minutes = 1 day in don't starve so we don't really know how long he has been in there), he acts like that make the player think they are getting close to him and dethrone him but in reality, he just wants someone to take his spot.
The reason why Willson is considered the one who dethroned Maxwell because he was one of the first who gets tricked by Maxwell and trapped there for god knows how long and also he has died many times before he even reaches Maxwell. Because in Wilson's eye Maxwell is the one responsible for all stuff that happened to him when Wilson sees that there is a chance to defeat Maxwell so he takes it.
And now we got Don't Starve Together.
Idk if it was his plan but since Maxwell lost the throne he's always grouchy.
I did a shitload of math, and because maxwell entered the constant in 1906, he’s been trapped for at least 7,692,007.2 days
I hope they find a way to make this work in DST but with Charlie instead of Maxwell
yeah DST really needs some kind of objective based mode.
@@011egis based
@@011egis that would be a pretty *based* mode
Heres a list of everything he'll say. (Not including quotes during the Epilogue)
-- Starting a Survival world (In other words, Reign of Giants or no DLC at all)
"Say pal, you don't look so good. You better find something to eat before night comes!"
-- Chapter 1
"Oh, you found my portal did you? You'd think you would have learned your lesson by now. Hmm. Let's try something a little more challenging, shall we?"
-- Chapter 2
"Well would you look at that, you survived. One down, four to go!"
-- Chapter 3
"What? You're still here? Impressive. But you should probably stop while you're ahead."
-- Two Worlds (If Two Worlds is selected as one of the chapters, this will be his dialogue instead of the normal chapters dialogue)
"Say, pal. Let's make a deal. You can stay here. Settle down, even. I'll give you food, gold, pigs, whatever you need. All I want in return is a truce."
-- Chapter 4
"Say, pal. You're really pushing your luck. Turn back now, or I may have to resort to drastic measures."
-- Chapter 5
"You insolent, pitiful, insignificant ant! Do not arouse the wrath of the Great Maxwell! You will regret coming any further..."
BONUS
Starting a RoG world or No DLC world as Maxwell
"Freedom!"
Starting a Shipwrecked world (Said by a Pirate Parrot, who I assume is Wolly)
"Nice sailing. Chump."
Starting a Hamlet world (Said by Maxameleon)
"Nice two point landing. Out of ten that is."
Starting a Hamlet world as Wormwood (Said by Maxameleon)
"Get moving, tree. Chop chop!"

1:40 The more agitated Maxwell gets, the more he starts to sound like a boat
Its interesting how he tries to stop the character despite the fact that he would be freed, its like he knew they would have to take his place
it could all be just an act
or maybe because it's the fake maxwell, the real one is on the throne
@@MaxwellE985 this was a whole year ago, im kind of past my dont starve craze but yeah you're definitely more correct
@@juandomoon8893 👍
@@MaxwellE985if im correct maxwell can create fake versions of himself from the throne and just control the constant (i think) so i dont really think its a fake maxwell but the real one trying to stop wilson from suffering the same fate as him
I miss those little conversations with the only other human we see in the game.
Theory : the nightmare creatures are the ones who actually brought you here not Maxwell and Maxwell only made the enemies to scare you from his throne since he dosent want you to suffer the same fate as him
That is interesting to see Maxwell being an arrogant gentleman into a creepy monster.
ngl, louder maxwell always scared me for some reason
maybe because of how loud it is or something?
It's definitely louder and more distorted, it also has an echoey effect so it does sound pretty scary.
Klei really did a good job with this. I believe it was quite intentional for him to sound progressively more scary and I think that Maxwell does that in a desperate attempt to scare Wilson away.

Maxwell is like why are you playing the game?
Maxvell reminds me the G-Man from Half life saga
He's much more vulnerable though, his true place in the constant is far from the all-powerful demeanour that he puts on, in terms of half life he's more of a Breen.
it seems to me alone that the closer to the end, the more Maxwell's voice becomes like the sounds of a steam locomotive
I would have had him slightly less hunched over during the third chapter.
Thanks for having me in this video :)
Just 75 HP hahaha
You died lolololol
hehe
Where is intro when Maxwell says to Wilson: "What? You're still here? Impressive, but you should probably stop while you're ahead."?
This isn’t a comprehensive list so there are probably a few possible scenes missing from it. If I go through the Adventure mode again then I’ll keep an eye out for that dialogue. I’m more into Shipwrecked right now (and looking forward to the Hamlet DLC, if it is still in the works for the PS4). :)
That one usually comes if Chapter 3 isn't Two Worlds.
My headcannon is that Maxwell did in fact [spoilers] turn to dust and die at the end of dont starve adventure mode and he's only a playable character because klei wanted to reward players who finished the game
There's a canon comic about Maxwell and Wilson meeting, after Charlie takes over the throne though.
@@MrKoraboras Don't starve to get her

do you think maxwell was possessed by the same entity or similar entity possessing charlie since at this time he is the one on the throne, does this prove max was being more aggressive and intimidating in an attempt at his evil side trying to keep the throne and therefore his power while his real world self or just plain old maxwell is stuck trying to fight with or foil the entity's plans and give wilson a way to reach him slowly but surely, i get the theory of attempting to scare the player from reaching the throne as to prevent them from suffering the same fate but if he wanted that why create the portals? why bring the playable characters into the constant? its interesting, could simply be maxwell and the evil entity are completely separate personalities but since they inhabited the same host they seemingly blended together until maxwell got angry revealing his monster side, but now that the entity fully possesses charlie, both forms appear more frequently with her real world counterpart almost accepting the power and control of the evil spirit, unlike max (he from what we know never morphed into a new form with the evil spirit or them, unless his height difference supports otherwise but since he was tall irl i think him becoming small and frail was punishment) who was either just vibing crafting the constant some more or angry and evil searching for victims to lure, but who really is in the shadows, not literal shadows thats charlie but whos the evil spirit. them? the specific one of them that possesses charlie? one on the same side as the shadows/darkness or one in favor of alter/lightness? since max manipulates nightmare fuel and can split his mind i imagine he aligned with the darkness since his descriptions point to more malicious forces where as alter doesnt seem to be directly harmful but i may be mistaken, at the very least charlie doesnt like alter and alter doesnt like charlie. idk its so convoluted it makes me crave more. such fascinating lore that even after first playing over 10 years ago i find myself getting sucked into the constant and absorbing all the lore it has to offer, wish netflix or any other streaming service would produce a klei developed dont starve animated series delving into the mysteries of the constant and the unfortunate tales that trapped each victim while exploring how they not only connect in more ways than one but how they will need to unite in order to escape the clutches of unknown forces but above all else... dont starve
I like how he says HIS PORTAL but Wilson is the one who built it

Thank you thank you thank you SO much for making this video! I'm breaking down the story for my best friend, & this video is perfect for an important beat in the Don't Starve story!!
I wonder why maxwell was gettin weirder every time Wilson go to a portal
It's an ilusion created by darkness/them? Or maybe Maxwell is a master of a manipulator, he makes Willson do what he wants by ordering him the opposite.

THE GAME IS AFOOT
I guess you made him more mad O,O
Is wx 78 a good character to reach maxwell? Because i found the machine in a world where im using him
I've never tried taking WX-78 through adventure mode but he's one of the better characters from what I understand. I think you would be fine, especially if you can find some gears. You should, quite frankly, be able to take any character through the mode. You would just have a more difficult time with some than others. As long as you're familiar with your character (i.e., their strengths and weaknesses) then you don't have too much to worry about.
WX is the best possible character due to how many clockworks you'll face in Adventure mode. Although he's rather weak early on, since he doesn't have any upgrades, so you should be ready for that
I beat adventure mode with WX my first time. The gears provide a constant source of healing and sanity. It gives you room for error.
maybe i can make a WX-78 save, make a grass suit for damage reduction, kill some clockworks and upgrade a lot

Webber and Wilson have this stile to ask instrument soud
i just noticed wilson got a cigar in his hand in the first one
How did he get up from the chair
Mabyde it's not him. When we see him in every chapter beginning, he begging to be a monster physically (i mean, look at him at the end, he's huge and he look like he's acting like an animal or getting insane). And he's trying to persuade the player to not searching him. But when we finally found him, he's literally suffering by the unstopping phonograph and the chair. This mean a entity take the appearance of maxwell or something posses his body. (This is kind of wrong because he isn't very kind when he is with wilson in the comic).
