I like your note about Charlie being the one to unite everyone! Personally, I think Charlie tried to grab everyone from the Shipwrecked and Hamlet branches of the constant, but Wormwood and Warly were the only ones who wanted to do so. I could definitely see Walani, Wilbur, Woodlegs, Wilba, and Wheeler all having reasons to stay in their respective worlds, but Wormwood and Warly would both be enticed by the promise of companionship
Charlie actually did have dialogue for Wormwood hidden in the code of Don't Starve Together for a time, like her dialogue for Winona and Maxwell. It's just an ellipses (...) but the very fact that it is there is puzzling.
OUGHH I forgot to mention that!! That's why I originally wrote Wormwood into the script because they DO have a connection! Thank you for reminding me!!

I wasn't aware of a lot of these things. This video does a really good job at explaining the lore without having to play through the entire game myself!
It's all either hidden with quotes, ARGs, and other external media. Hopefully we get some more lore via gameplay, but Klei enjoy keeping exposition disconencted from gameplay. Which is fine, cus they make up for it with some amazing animated shorts :)
Great recap here. I agree with you that Charlie isn't likely the main antagonist of the series, given that all Survivors can choose to join her "team" now that the insight trees are being developed. Charlie may have been changed by THEM, but the parts of her that are still who she was shine through at times. She obviously chose Maxwell to once again be her partner out of all her options, due to their history. You can almost feel that she knows Maxwell has feelings for her in how she calls him so affectionately "Maxy" and punctuates her dialog with hearts. She knows he cares for her, so she sought him out and told him they'd rule the Constant together once more. Max won't have Wagstaff as an option in his tree, just as Wormwood can't choose Charlie. As for the story going forward, there's the appearance of four sides in this conflict. Nether THEM or ALTER are choices, because they represent the greater powers, instead we choose between Charlie and Wagstaff. I feel like ultimately the Moon and Shadows are going to remain our main antagonists, but Charlie and Wagstaff represent using their powers against them. Great video, looking forward to Wagstaff's.
Not to mention, it's clear Maxwell cares for Charlie by all of his dialog if you pay attention when clicking on things like the Queen's Statue. He doesn't blame Charlie for anything she does, and when clicking on the Codex, he used to say "I'm so sorry, Charlie." Maxwell feels a deep shame and guilt over what happened to Charlie, and he wants to do right by her. Perhaps Maxwell and Winona will determine Charlie's future.
I feel there is so much missed, but I think you got the main points too and introduced a few things I hadn't considered before. One of the main things that irked me, though, is how you referred to Them only as the shadow entity from the gateway. Alter is also likely to be one of Them as evidenced by various quotes by a number of the survivors, especially Maxwell. Another thing that irked me is how you referred to the mirror and the gate as one and the same while I do not see it that way. My source for this is how the Survivors have traveled through the Ancient Gateway at some point to try to escape, thus ending up in the world of the Forge and the Gorge, possibly elsewhere, too, granted, no other places have been revealed. If the Ancient Gateway is the mirror and the mirror is Them, it does not make much sense for the Survivors to enter Them and go somewhere seemingly unrelated. Instead, I loosely believe that the Ancient Gateway can lead to Them in some capacity.
I guess this could be true, but there's a lot of extrapolation from the facial expressions of an eyeball. My interpretation of that scene was that they weren't able to cross through the portal and charlie was frustrated that it didn't work.
"fear the wrath of a woman scorn" is how i would describe it, in my headcannon , charlie is playing all sides, when they two sides of herself fuse, the conflict ended in her mind. then charlie deviced a plan to free them and when they show their true colors? well she turn to the survivors yet again, why stop them from helping alter? why not just...let them fight THEM and break the tether, she could keep the power and rule over the nightmares as the sole ruler. i also believe the reason it is much easier for her to control the nightmares is because she was part of them once, she isnt a foreign force dictating rules, she is one of them
3:26 you say an unknown time passes, but it probably wasnt very long since in the "A New Reign" trailer, wilson doesn't have a beard so it's been less than 4 days also you say that fuelweaver is the one that broke it which ended up destroying the civilization, i believe that Shadow Them was destroying the civilization and FW broke it to protect the constant
Thank you! This was a fun watch. I do hope you will continue to tell the stories of the Survivors, Charlie, Wagstaff and the war between Altar and the Shadows.
I'm happy I found your channel! I've had a long time interest in DST and it's lore but it always very different for me to find DST content, let out alone anything about the lore besides in game and the official Klei Entertainment youtube channel.
I think part about destroying doll and miror is when Charlie started to have realy bad Relationship with makswell (kinda) and shadows or them specifically as was said was bot happy that someone uses them like that, and then shadown deside that when they gona be used next time, they gona do a trick (yeah he said that in video) later after getting what they wished them would get charlie's trone away from her but they can't. They made trone (or not them, who knows) that way so someone HAS to sit in it now. And thats gives Charlie opportunity to do what she does
Great theory. To add my own spin to it I would say that Charlie is most likely going still going to work together with Them since I really can t see her switcing sides initially ( and being on Altar s team ) or even worse confronting both. Plot wise it doesn t make sense to have Them vs Charlie since a lot of the buildup has been around Altar vs Them. What i propose instead is that there will be significant divison in her faction as Charlie really doesn t trust Them anymore which may lead to her switching sides at the end of the conflict after her team is about to loose thus becoming a hero or she gets corrupted by Them and brought into submisson , we the players having to save them. Unfortunatelly neither of the two options above truly work as endings due to Altar s and Wagstaff s team being evil too. From a narrative perspective Charlie trying to switch to the good team and succeeding or getting corrupted so that she continues to server the evil forces would make sense however as I said previously it can t happen.
I like that :) I personaly don't ever see Charlie siding with Alter, but simply using them so she can either swoop in and land a deathblow on Them, or steal their power, letting her rival Alter herself :)
What a great lore recap! I think i'll throw in my own theory: Wagstaff is orchestrating all of the events in Don't Starve. He found out about the constant and Them even before Maxwell learnt about it! In the Intermission short we see him Waaay younger than he is in-game. The Woxolla radios for some reason can recieve signals from the constant, so Wagstaff probably planned the radios that way! When Altar is defeated, Wagstaff just yoinks the power of the moon and probably leaves charlie to pick up the scraps. Maybe Wagstaff even got Maxwell pulled into the constant, he could have caused something that made Them take Maxwell and start the whole franchise! He Truly is an evil fella... Wonder what else will get revealed in future shorts.
This makes literally no sense since he only discovered about the Constant after the San Francisco earthquake, which was on the day Maxwell and Charlie were brought to the Constant.
@@-penta-1357 I agree, Wagstaff was definitely unaware until he finds the tape after the San Fran Earthquake. I think the moon or the shadows see some sort of value in him, because they haven't bothered to chase him down in the real world yet. It contrasts with how Wanda is actively being hunted/stalked due to her use of shadow magic.
@@babblingbook7027I disagree that the shadows or brightmares even can hunt him down on the notion of how Wanda likely made some sort of deal to get access, at least in my eyes. Also, because of how time works differently in the Constant, I think it is *possible* that Wagstaff orchestrated everything, but I do find it unlikely.
I am kind of upset that no one has done a Wortox lore/theory video yet, he is teuly a monster in my eyes, even moreso than Charlie, Wagstaff, or even Them.
I think it is not accurate that "Charlie was betrayed by the shadows". They did not laugh at her, she was not mad because they laughed at her. She was mad, because her repairs weren't enough to "make Them whole" again, as the eye of Them had disappeared. That is why, in-game, she is extremely happy that we helped her repair the Ancient Gateway. You have showed the video from Klei Entertainment "From Below", but you did not show, how she, at the end of the video, starts manipulating and persuading Maxwell into cooperation. Why? Because he has the Codex Umbra. Not because she wants revenge. Because the Codex and Maxwell's powers and cooperation are needed to make "Them" whole again.
Neither of us will know their full intentions until we're shown more; However, the fact that the shadow rifts are able to freely open in abundance with little to no wavering shows me that "They" got exactly what they want. Plus, it lines up with the Shadows M.O of "Helping somebody achieve power and then throwing them away when they're bored/done with them", which is exactly what they did with Maxwell, and most likely what happened with the ancient civilisation. Ingame, I see that she's happy with us fixing the gateway because that's before the events of that animated short and such; and also how Klei are very adamant on having exposition outside of gameplay. The events have to chronological via gameplay somehow, however. Personally, I feel like Maxwell would not want to make "Them" whole again. He liked the funny magic as much as the next guy, but saw exactly what happened when They got tired of him- of course. Charlie could be witholding this information, and, as I mentioned later in the video, possibly originally DID want his help in rebuilding Them, but changed her mind when it went awry. I don't know! I'm just basing an entire theory of a 2 second frame of a characters face. The next short with Charlie will anwser all of these questions :) Or else!
I’m glad you’re branching out, loving the new lore videos/miscellaneous content, but are you going to finish the Wurt playthrough? I want to see how to play Wurt, because I suck at her but I want to get better
I'd say, Charlie definitely does play the role of a main antagonist of DST (And does it quite well, her presence is not shoehorned but still very prevalent), I mean the game is literally called "Don't Starve ToGetHer." Revealing such an iconic and integral antagonist to be a hero wouldn't be the wisest of ideas and worse still, *the game has already done that once,* with Maxwell! Repeating that would be a tad lame.
I honestly i think that the blacksmith could be the Ancient Fuelweaver. We never see Winona talking with Charlie at all, the only scenes that are shown to us of both of them interacting are when: Wilson, Maxwell and Winona get in the archives right before Charlie and when Winona gets pulled over to the constant. I don't think it's Winona's fault. At Maxwell's rework video we see that when Charlie got into the constant she was sent to the atrium, whe even see Fuelweaver together with Charlie. Maybe Fuelweaver tried to protect Charlie the same way he "tries" to save us in game.
Wild and Soft Theory: the Nightmare Throne is a failed and NEGLECTED experiment from the They (Cosmic Eyes) who were testing their limits on the material or lower realities and birthed this strange continent-like world our deuteragonists take into. The spell book Maxwell obtained is merely both bait and a part of the Nightmare Throne in effort to sustain itself because its AWARE of its own flaws and resents its creators for making it be pushed into extremes like kidnapping. No one is a hero in this story because there just isn't value in one?!
This is literally such an amazing theory video I absolutely love it! Really love hearing your in depth explaination for Charlie's reasonings and motivations here it was very interesting to see. Been loving these new types of videos lately!
Sooo she got trolled as MAvel got mat now with maxvel probablyo thers will join (survivors) and from help from moon they will make everything right? O.o
The creators of Don't Starve made Wilson, Willow and Wolfgang, they noticed all of their names started with a W, so they had the idea to name everyone with a W in the start.
Neat video, but there is a HUGE problem with the theory, a common one so it's not unexpected. Unfortunately it invalidates everything here. "Them" is not the shadows. The shadows are already here, and as quoted by the fuel weaver, who is one of the shadows themselves, "THEY are coming, it cannot be stopped." We also had the "Return of Them" update series, and what was added with it? The moon entities. Those are the "Them" constantly referred to, the opposition of the shadows. We still know very little about the shadows themselves.
That's fine! But to me, I see "Them" as Alter and the funky Shadow version of it :) I got another video planned where I go fully into what the shadows exactly are, because the way I see it? There are two types of shadows. The ink blights being a more... I suppose you could say more "Original" type of shadows, compared to the ones that inhabit the constant. Or they could just be warriors. Who knows. Though saying my entire theory is invalidated because of a miss-match of terminology is a bit much! I simply use "Them" to refer to the big ol' shadow eye because.. we don't know their name yet!
I also dont believe she is the antagonist. She is possessed by the shadows, but she doesn't seem to weaver about it. When wanda analizes her she says "she looks happy". She doesn't seem to be "emprisoned" as maxwell, and she found a balance between her and the shadows. Im curios if ever the "moon" becomes the antagonist or something.

The spell book Maxwell obtained is merely both bait and a part of the Nightmare Throne in effort to sustain itself because its AWARE of its own flaws and resents its creators for making it be pushed into extremes like kidnapping. No one is a hero in this story because there just isn't value in one?!
shadow mommy

There's only one faction that will emerge victorious. MERM NATION.
So what you’re saying is that she’s literally me?
This is literally such an amazing theory video I absolutely love it! Really love hearing your in depth explaination for Charlie's reasonings and motivations here it was very interesting to see. Been loving these new types of videos lately!
Thank you SO much!! Comments like this are a highlight of my day :)
Bro will become the new MatPat
Keep up the lore! I crave it
LETS GO! NEW VIDEO! YAY!
Wait, what is this animation where Charlie is with Fuelweaver?
When showing the flashbacks while talking to/recruiting Maxwell
It's the Encore short :) It's a split second moment after they both get pulled into the Constant on stage :)
@@BiddoBamss I saw that now btw, I think I didn't see in the first time I saw. anyway Thanks :)
Sooo she got trolled as MAvel got mat now with maxvel probablyo thers will join (survivors) and from help from moon they will make everything right? O.o
My question is why everyone's name starts with W
Because yes
Won't Warve
Wilson wercival wiggsburry
The creators of Don't Starve made Wilson, Willow and Wolfgang, they noticed all of their names started with a W, so they had the idea to name everyone with a W in the start.
@@Maevega321 makes sense
The play is such an evil way to get lore
What about alter
What about them :) Stay tuned!
another peak biddo video
But it's just a theory!
I simply use "Them" to refer to the big ol' shadow eye because.. we don't know their name yet!
plz make more theories

All i know is that she is a baddie
Freaky Charlie
Well we know that Wilson replaced Maxwell for less than 4 in game days cause we can see that Wilson didn't grow a beard.
i didn't know there was a phone game version! brb getting rid of pixel heroes for it
She so bad❤
I can't fix her I want her to make me worse
@@BiddoBamssSame, bro, same.

Biologically or adopted, my good man? Art thou born from the shadows, or taken under its wing? (Mediocre poetry to go with the joke go brrrr)
