- This week I'm joined by Carolyn Hennesy. Carolyn is an accomplished actress, NY Times Best Selling Author, Animal Advocate and believe it or not a Flying Trapeze Artist.
You may know her best as lawyer Diane Miller on General Hospital, but Carolyn's appeared in recurring roles on hit television shows like True Blood, Dawson's Creek, Cougar Town, Revenge and won a Daytime Emmy Award for her role on the web series The Bay. Carolyn has stared in features films such as Click, Legally Blonde 2 and Terminator 3.
As an author Carolyn has penned the popular “Pandora” children’s book series and the New York Times Bestseller “The Secret Life of Damian Spinelli."
While we talk a lot today about acting and our first scenes together on General Hospital, Carolyn opened up to me about her father, his death and her achievement of being 21 years sober.

Wow! I met Carolyn in Vancouver, Canada, at a restaurant a few years ago and she’s such a delight. As a medium my entire life (which she didn’t know) I love hearing about her connection with her dad in spirit. Huge congrats on her 21 years sober! I could sit and talk to her for hours - her energy and soul light is just wonderful to be around and she was so kind to stop and chat with me at the restaurant when I met her. Thanks for this wonderful interview! 💜

Maurice thanks for making mental health a subject. As a recovering alcoholic I was told by my psychologist I self medicated. I was undiagnosed bipolar for the longest time, my anxiety and depression was reduced with alcohol. That's how I dealt

I lost my dad in a car accident when he was 66. My first real shock. I felt him with me for a really long time. One morning I went to the deck with my coffee. The sky was beautiful. I felt a peace come over me. I believe that’s when he let go. From then on I knew my daddy was fine and now I was fine also. 🙏🌹.

I finally found a woman out there who feels as I do about dating. I am so happy. I have felt as though I am constantly explaining myself. I get asked, "Are you gay?", like there has to be something 'wrong' with me. When a man tries to convince me that I simply must give them a chance, I am just saying, "Please don't take this the wrong way, but I have no interest in being anything but a pal you speak to once in a while. Really.". Then of course the look I get. Then of course I have to explain that I am not lonely. Alone doesn't automatically mean lonely. You can feel lonely in a room full of people but fine strolling around on your own. Carolyn is a breath of fresh air. Loved this talk.👵🕯️🕊️🦋🎄⛄💕💕💕

Maurice Bernard saved me from losing my 34 year old daughter.he taught me to handle and support her in a way that saved her from wanting to end her life. He was a real friend to me and I have never met him.

Amazing communication with both of you.. The plain truth of influence and struggles of a want to be actress. From a young age to mature adult. And the experience of a "studio brat". Non the least having a famous father, with outstanding accomplishments.. it gave the viewers the values of being yourself...perseverance..not taking no lightly.. but not giving up. And so much more!!. How one can be content with oneself and overcoming an addiction that only mirage your true dreams and goals.. in a unedited conversation of two people who valued each other's struggles..Kudos!!!
I've loved Carolyn for years. I've also suffered with anxiety and depression for years. This is probably my favorite State of Mind interview. In my opinion, I think she should talk to Ryan Murphy. I think she would be amazing in American Horror Story, or any Ryan Murphy project for that matter.
I was so looking forward to this interview. I absolutely adore this lady to pieces ❤️❤️ and I learned so much that I didn't know about Carolyn.

Absolutely loved this interview. One of your best. Please bring Carolyn back. Maurice thank you for bringing awareness to mental illness. I myself have anxiety, depression and ptsd. Some days are a struggle and some days are not. I do take meds to take the edge off but the rest is my responsibility. I do tune in to watch this weekly. Please continue this as long as you can!
Maurice, I just saw your note about the passing of your dad. I am so, so sorry…My dad suffered from Vascular Dementia for many years before his passing in 2017. My saving grace are my nightly “Visitation Dreams” of my dad & mom. May the strength of God & the fond memories of your dad comfort you & your family throughout eternity❤️

I absolutely think Carolyn is one of my all time favorite actresses on GH. And I started watching it back in 1967. She is So talented and entertaining to watch. Her mannerisms as Diane Miller is spot on. Plus I love her hair. I wish I had her hair hahah. Cute as a bug. Beautiful too. Great interview.

I LOVE HER!!!! Always have...but now even more!!! Her positive energy just screams through the camera. I know GH is going after the younger viewers for ratings, but they are really missing the boat not having Nancy there to work her magic!!! I've been watching GH forever!!! There's a lot of us out there. I think that's forgotten a lot based on the storylines they put out. Having some mature storylines would be great!! I look forward to State of Mind next week.

That line .. and her delivery ... still make me laugh!!! Great, great actress ... more of Carolyn on GH pleeeease!!! And ooo ... let's have her back here as well ... she was just talking about her father and her connection with him since he passed, and then she was starting to tell us that she has a special relationship with death. But the conversation moved in a different direction (just like it does in real life 😁). Would love to hear more from her!!!! Carolyn is beautiful, powerful and in charge!! I would love to see much more of her on GH!!! I too remember her beautiful Aunt Barbara Rush from the Daytime Soap Payton Place. She too was so beautiful!!!! My mom was an avid Soap Opera watcher. For a good part of my childhood we only had one TV. Day time Soaps was the norm while my Dad was at work. General Hospital is the only Soap that I currently watch. The Cast members are phenomenal. Congratulations again on your Podcast!!! You are awesome!! Carolyn is extra awesome!!
