    I have an 05 Lariat and stumbled across this video, impressed with your skills and bravery to tackle that job. I'm not mechanically inclined and would not try this but it gave me some insight on some of the issues I'm having with my truck (278,000 miles). Keep doing what you're doing bro!

    I know this video is old, but I just wanted to say that I can appreciate your work on this. I know there are a lot of TH-camrs out there buying and working on cars, as if it's a difficulty for them with their lifts, garage full of every piece of equipment you could need, and using it as a side project.
    Yet, here you are staying up late, getting up early, dealing with the cold, climbing in an engine bay with no lifts, access to tools you have on hand which is far less, and likely a smaller budget than those other people.
    This is also a critique of the euro-car snobs who continuously buy BMW and Mercedes as if their overengineered garbage sitting on their in home car lifts are some gift from God.
    Anyway, I appreciate the video and insights.

    I got an 04 Lariat. Gets serviced every 3-5k miles. Runs flawlessly. It does the knocking but I’ve been told if you ain’t knocking then you ain’t rocking. 160k on mine so far. I’m the third owner. First was an old man, second was a guy who wanted a work truck but bought a lariat and thought it was too nice. Also came from a small truck so he didn’t like a big trucks gas mileage. I bought it due to us having a child and I was driving a single cab Ford Ranger at the time and needed something for a car seat. I literally love my truck. It’s such a good truck for me and tows everything I put behind it. Goes through mud easy too. I believe these trucks are how you drive them is how they last. If you push it all the time it’s gonna have problems. I typically drive it 20 miles every day 5 days a weekend on weekends it either sits all weekend or is hauling my trailers around and working. Cruise around 50 most of the time in back roads and have all windows down and back one open so ac don’t have to run or stress. I think I got me a good one

    Some manufacturers give a dry torque and or oil (or wet) torque, But for future reference u only need enough “lube” for the threads, u gotta be careful loading the hole with oil, it can cause a hydraulic lock at the bottom of the hole when u try to torque the fastener, giving a false torque value

    Great video man! Love the 5.4 3v. It gets a lot of bad rap but most of the time it’s due to lack of knowledge about them. They have their quirks just like any other motor. But properly cared for they can go 300000 miles plus. Once again great video buddy

      @BB_Gun public bandit that's alot of mile just goes to show that with good maintenance oil changes.These trucks last a long time I got a 5.4 3V too I rebuilt the engine and transmission and got like 4,000 miles on it but it's good to see video their very informative. You should make a video just to see what we could all do to reach 400,000 mile bro.

    25:35 yeah man my first bmw project I did in the winter the wires are just FROZEN (e28 bmw) I had to use a heat gun to pre-warm them before bending them I didn't want to risk shattering the old sleeves. But now I'm working on my 2nd project e28 bmw but this time in the summer it's a 1000x easier in the summer!
    Great video and very inspiring thank you for sharing.

      That's from their cheaper kits that don't include the OEM Cam Phasers. Right now the proper kit runs about $1200. They have a cheaper version with some other brand phasers they "say" are upgraded but seen a lot of failures. Go wath FordTechMakuloco.

    Big common failure point on the 5.4 liter 3 valve Triton engines it's oil passageways being clogged from lack of oil changes or poor maintenance

    • @hochhaul
      @hochhaul 5 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Yes either clogged oil passageways or cam journal wear that causes excessive pressure loss. Some 3-valves had bad TC tensioner gaskets that allowed oil to leak and cause an oil pressure drop at the cam phasers. The oil pumps had hot idle oil pressure issues for some engines too.

      Anthony- the problem is the oil pump. The phasers and tensioners failing are symptoms of a bad oil pump.

      @kingdaniel3519 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@stephenschlee4803 If you're losing compression, either you've got a valve stuck or broken, the rings are worn, or the head(s) are leaking. For low cylinder compression, a new engine or rebuild is all that will fix it.

    • @stephenschlee4803
      @stephenschlee4803 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@kingdaniel3519 nope I've already tore it apart and everything is fine. There is no reason for loss of compression. No blow by, not burning oil, valves are fine, head&gasket are fine. I'm a mechanic and I've been stumped by it as well as 4 other mechanics and 3 Ford dealers. If you fill the cylinder full of atf or oil it doesn't leak out at all.
