Many Mechanic's would just rather put in a new motor to avoid actually doing real mechanic work. Anyone can pull a motor but not many can really fix an existing still good engine.

Good job. Love my 06. Luckily the previous owner fixed everything at the dealer already. I have the 5.4. With 218,000 highway miles. Runs like new. I'm in California. All I've done is get new falken AT tires and change the oil with 5 quarts supertech full synthetic and 2 quarts conventional. Runs like new. I got it for 5,200. Love it
I've got an 06 that I bought with 80k on it. Now has 137000 miles. I paid 15500 for it but I've had it for 8 years and its been paid off for a while. I'm about to do this exact same repair on it. I dont mind dropping the money into it since new trucks are so expensive. This thing will last a long time. You inspired me to do this. Good Job Buddy!

That's not an easy job if you're working indoors and using a lift. Don't even want to think about having to do it with a couple of jacks and outside in the elements. I had to subscribe out of respect alone. In the first video with this truck you said that this isn't a "how to" channel and it doesn't need to be because there are plenty of those already on TH-cam. Wow great job man. I have a 2009 Ford F150 with a 5.4 it did the same thing at 168,000 miles. We pulled it apart and rebuild it and I now have 210,000 miles on it my neighbor has one identical to yours with over 350,000 miles on it he rebuilt the whole engine at 200,000 miles. Go to walmart, get some medical syrynges for baby medecine. The bigger one. Injector orings fit snug in these, the red tube from carb cleaner fits tight in the other end. attached a couple leads or junk pigtail. 1. spray carb cleaner into the tube, it will pressurize, and hold. 2. tough the leads to the battery intermittently, it will activate the injectors. The pressurce cleaner through the injector. Same as a proffessional cleaning. You can watch the spray pattern open up and begin to atomize better.
I have to say what a great job. I am so glad that you change that oil. When you were talking about all the fuel going into the cylinder the first game that came to mind what is that is all in your oil pan. You remind me of myself. We are willing to buy someone else's headache and we know how to do the work to fix it the right way. You are also like me in the fact that when you are fixing one thing you go ahead and take care of other issues that could come up later on. I'm looking forward to watching your other videos. IV been running some in mine since I bought it to clean it out Also prolong I put a little luca synthetic and it seemed to start doing a startup rattle more it ran nice when i switched to 530 and a quart of marvels from 520 ford semi synthetic The new VCt solenoids are a must mine had the old style casuing a bad hot idle knock mine is a 2006 with now 90k miles

Good video and the previous video. This gives me the confidence to see to it that my recent purchase of a 2007 F150 with the 5.4 v8 can indeed be fixed. I bought it for my wife who loved my 06 Silverado 2500 HD 6.6 Diesel with the Allison. However, its too much truck for her and her delivering our boys to school and track meets etc. I bought her a pretty Red & Silver F150 with 220 on the clock. I drove it 2000 miles from TN to IA and then towed an 3,000lb equipment trailer with a 3,700 lb payload from IA to WY 850 miles. After my trip I noticed that the 5.4 used 7 quarts of oil. A few weeks later, the motor started to shake upon starting it and "low oil pressure" was coming on. The 5.4 is very hard to start too. It takes 5-7 cranks to get it to warm up. The power steering pump is bad (noisy) and so is the alternator (bad bearing). A local WY shop wanted $1150 to replace the PS pump and the alternator. I found good motorcraft parts on ROCKAUTO for about $105 + $150 & shipping. And I felt that the first shop was way off on labor. I had a different mechanic (shop no. 2) tell me that the cam phasers were bad. Your video indicated the faulty oil pump problem too. Your tear down of the motor seems like it was easy to get at (despite the winter temperatures outside)...relatively. I can't believe that the mice built a nest inside the motor intake manifold. I will buy the new oil pump, the new alternator, the new PS pump and a few AC hoses and will install a fresh AC condenser since the old one is bent up and seems to be crusty old. I was quoted by the 2nd shop mechanic $2,600 to install the 4 components that I mentioned and to fix the cam phasers. I am also considering buying a "PowertrainProducts.net" new core motor, since I want the wife to be happy and to know that she has an entirely new motor in her truck. You got to take care of your woman. SO... I have to decide either to tear down the motor, like you did, or just replace the core motor- rebuilt- with a 5 year warranty and then install the new components and the AC stuff, the PS Pump and the Alternator on top of it. It is the more esspensive option, but I want my wife to know that I did not fix up an old motor with 220 k and pass it on to her. GOOD VIDEO. THANKS. TOM

You're a tough guy,smart too. If I went through all that work I would not use that cheap ass oil. Put in some Valvoline5W20 syn blend or Motorcraft 5W20 syn blend, you've come all that way so don't cheap out now . Keep up the good work bud.
Actually Supertech oil is probably just as good as Mobile 1.Been seeing slot of videos on it. Just dont go cheap on the filter.But yeah I'm running motorcraft full synthetic on my f150
Smart to change the oil after all those problems with injectors. 5W-30 is the right oil to use with these engines. Especially as they age. Great job on the bulletproofing.
Looks like you did a great job doing all the repairs. Just a question the truck has some rust. Will you be rust proofing the truck. I wish I had your skills on mechanical issues.

Good job sir! I have done a ton of these trucks. Once you do everything you just did they are great. I would have suggested installing the updated lash adjusters and followers but that would be about all i would add.

im thankful my truck only needed a jumpstart to start up again after replacing lights in my dash. i guess i was working on it longer than i had realized. 243k never underestimate a determined 4-banger.
Good job man im a motorcycle mechanic and fixing to do Timing chain job on my 2004 fx4 crew cab Ive got a great truck mechanic but i think I may do it myself Ive watched 3 different guys do it and the timing dont seem to bad to do? I had rather work on bikes any day!! The timing dont seem as bad as a 16 valve dual over head cam gixxer!!! LOL Anyway you came out great on this deal!!
Just did went through mine top to bottom. It runs well and shifts alot better after i power programmed it with the Edge 15051. Just in case you didnt know the oil presure guage is a dummy gauge, it works off a switch in the oil filter housing and is either at half or not, it does not actually show live oil pressure. Cheers
I got an 05 FX4 with 238000 miles. Bought it 2 years ago. Heard all the horror stories and it had a tuner on it to. Took it straight to a guy that specializes t these. He tried to tell me it's an exaust leak an the left cat is where the noise is coming from. Had him put all the s"*r you see on Utube replaced. The passenger side exaust manifold is leaking and the guts from the cat on that side are in the muffler!! Runs great, replaced cats with hi flow after market units. Spent all that money in the engine for nothing. When a professional tell u that ain't it, listen to him. When assholes tell you these things are junk, tell to shut the hell up. There are FLEETs of these things running around with 300000+ miles in them!! CHANGE the OIL, use the CORRECT OIL. That's the important thing. Still got to fix the exhaust leak that was original problem.
Another super cheap upgrade is taking out the valves and cleaning up stems and chambers. Then use valve lapping compound to clean up the seat contact. Not exactly a valve job but you will definitely have perfect seal, they really don't wear much on newer engines.

Good job sir! I have done a ton of these trucks. Once you do everything you just did they are great. I would have suggested installing the updated lash adjusters and followers but that would be about all i would add.

im thankful my truck only needed a jumpstart to start up again after replacing lights in my dash. i guess i was working on it longer than i had realized. 243k never underestimate a determined 4-banger.

Good job man im a motorcycle mechanic and fixing to do Timing chain job on my 2004 fx4 crew cab Ive got a great truck mechanic but i think I may do it myself Ive watched 3 different guys do it and the timing dont seem to bad to do? I had rather work on bikes any day!! The timing dont seem as bad as a 16 valve dual over head cam gixxer!!! LOL Anyway you came out great on this deal!!

Just did went through mine top to bottom. It runs well and shifts alot better after i power programmed it with the Edge 15051. Just in case you didnt know the oil presure guage is a dummy gauge, it works off a switch in the oil filter housing and is either at half or not, it does not actually show live oil pressure. Cheers

I got an 05 FX4 with 238000 miles. Bought it 2 years ago. Heard all the horror stories and it had a tuner on it to. Took it straight to a guy that specializes t these. He tried to tell me it's an exaust leak an the left cat is where the noise is coming from. Had him put all the s"*r you see on Utube replaced. The passenger side exaust manifold is leaking and the guts from the cat on that side are in the muffler!! Runs great, replaced cats with hi flow after market units. Spent all that money in the engine for nothing. When a professional tell u that ain't it, listen to him. When assholes tell you these things are junk, tell to shut the hell up. There are FLEETs of these things running around with 300000+ miles in them!! CHANGE the OIL, use the CORRECT OIL. That's the important thing. Still got to fix the exhaust leak that was original problem.
Another super cheap upgrade is taking out the valves and cleaning up stems and chambers. Then use valve lapping compound to clean up the seat contact. Not exactly a valve job but you will definitely have perfect seal, they really don't wear much on newer engines.
