The bomb you were curious to know the name of is called the “bunker buster bomb”
Known as the "deepthroat" it was made from 8" gun barrels made for cruisers in WWII. They fill the barrel with explosive and cap the ends with caps that allow mounting of GBU- bomb guidance unit kit.

I am a former officer from the Dutch special forces, and have been deployed several tours in Afghanistan as a Forward Air Controller.
These helicopters are so fantastic, you have to see it for yourself to believe it.
We have been in situations that the Apache was just 20 meters above my head shooting at all targets that i was sending to them from the ground. These machines saved our lives more than once.
I am thankfull of all veterans but as a Dutch guy i'm very proud the Dutch army have these amazing machines, and especially the special forces who served in Afghanistan and Thanks gabbers.👍
Just an FYI, Apaches don’t crash. They have “high impact landings”.

Difference between Apache and A-10 30mm guns:

A-10 has more diatance, speed, and survivability but needs runways. The Apachie Can take off vertically and hang around an area longer and is a proven night fighter. That is the difference. On another note USA is moving to just use unmanned Predator / global hawks Drones to do damage now. If you want to freak out a little research that.
Push a button then boom. For the most part the Enemy dosen't know it's there.

There are actual heavy helium balloons that look like hellfire missiles that you can buy, they have thin lanyards that attach to the balloon nose that you can tie to your car bumper. When you drive down the road it looks like the. Inside is chasing you.

To my understanding it actually makes it fairly far into the ground then blows up in the ground. The the shaking and crumbling occurs. It's what they said they would use on kimmy kim if we needed to.
Maybe I'm stupid but how does it work? Like, does it have to be dropped directly into a bunker or just deep into the ground near a bunker?
@@alexl9799 its launched high up, well dropped. As I said no expert here. But it literally takes gravity and its weight. Then just plummets into the earth and explodes once its actually in the ground, and or bunker.
It's a special type of shell called a roschling shell or soemthing, specifically to detonate under the earth. Designed by the germans some time ago

I was in the US Army in 1999 to 2005....I was a 15R (classification on an Apache Helicopter Repairer). I was in a line company which is mostly pilots with some enlisted. Our jobs was to maintain the helicopters to be ready in a moments notice. There's some things this video doesn't talk about....but this video was a great reaction to one of the most beautiful, powerful, and deadliest helicopters ever made!
You asked if it can see heat. Yes, it can. When the narrator was talking about the FLIR, that is the Forward Looking InfraRed. I used to make those type of systems. 😉

i used to make STINGER missiles they were dangerous to make and we got in trouble if you messed up at all because they cost a ton.
During a mission in Iraq in 2006 my platoon came under attack from a sniper position supported by several insurgents acting as sniper support. The sniper position was only approachable by using an open field so needless to say, we couldn't maneuver on it. Also, a water canal was between us and the enemy so the vehicles couldn't be used either. Air support was requested and we got two apaches lol. They used one hellsfire missile each and then the 30 mm to cut down runners. The whole engagement was over in 10 minutes. When we went to secure the enemy position all we could find was fire and ashes. Love the Apache

I love how he is so happy during the video, it just makes it so much better seeing a soldier get so excited about the technology
On TH-cam, reaction videos have been popular for a long time. What makes for the best reaction video, is when the person reacting has never seen/heard what they're reacting to before. A lot of people in the US and allied countries already know about these things you're excited about, so they're re-experiencing the excitement they had when first learning about the weapons. Basically, living vicariously through you.
Have you noticed, that it's always more fun to watch a movie, or listen to music, when you're with someone else? They say, "the more the merrier"....
Back in the 70S, I was part of the design test and certification team for the first AH-64's rotor heads. That model was pretty amazing but they have added a lot more capabilities to it in the 40 years since. So I'm glad your like and appreciate our work. My lead engineer was a Lithuanian immigrant to the US.
On jamming radar or infra-red/heat sensors on the aircraft or missiles. Your idea of sending so much noise out that the sensor is blinded is what we call brute force jamming, It works but is not used much today. Instead, the jammers offer a high fidelity simulated target signal that looks a lot like a helicopter in its radar or heat signature but use control of time delays and energy profiles to spoof the sensor into thinking the signal is to the side, above, below or at a shorter range than the real helicopter, so it steers the missile or gun to someplace where the helicopter is not and the bad guys miss (while revealing their location).
The Apache can also hide behind trees or hills or buildings in a hover, with only the Longbow sensor head out of cover until it is time to fire. Then it quickly pops up, fires and disappears behind cover again. Apache crews do a lot of training in how to fly below the tree tops or along paths or roads masked by trees or hills. The enemy can't shoot or hear (Apaches are much quieter than typical small helicopters in the hover) what it doesn't see until it is too late.
Also, what you saw in Vietnam was the AH-1 Cobra, the Apache wasn't built until 1975.
When I was in high school, we heard a noise outside our math class. My math teacher asked a student to look out the window, and the student goes “Sir, an Apache attack helicopter is landing outside.” Turns out, the pilots were running VERY late in returning to base or something during a routine training flight, and to get around getting chewed out by their superiors, they used a loophole where if they were demonstrating the chopper for educational purposes as a detour, apparently they wouldn’t get in as much trouble. We got to get pretty close to it, those things are MASSIVE. It was awesome.🙂

in 6th grade, a teacher told our class of the Baltic states. I have thought of you, prayed for you. I am thankful you are free to chat with us.
My little brother was on deployment in Iraq, and I'll never forget the story he told me about Apaches. He was a FO in the US Army, and always said that the Apache pilots were his favorite to talk to on the radio, because they were "absolutely mental" to him. But to get to the story, his platoon was tracking insurgent caches and enemy fighters, and they tracked them down to a school house. He got the okay to let the Apache pilots rain hell, and that's exactly what they did! He said he's never seen anything like it and probably never will again. A true marvel to the US air superiority!
"The deep bomb" is called a bunker buster, and then we also have a MOAB(mother of all bombs). I recommend checking those two out too

the ground shaking bomb you refer to artur is a bridge collapsing bomb used in WW2 by the allies...the bomb worked similarly to a bunker buster, as it would penetrate deep into the ground..but it was used to collapse bridges instead.

When it comes to the question of "how much money is worth throwing away on just one KIA?" the simple answer boils down to who that target is and how much damage they can inflict if they are not neutralized. The right "one or two men" on the ground could easily rack up mass casualties under certain circumstances.
I know I’m a bit late to this video, but I run cross country here in Colorado (USA obviously) my coach is a retired LTC army aviation’s officer. He used to pilot an Apache longbow attack helicopter. Just thought it was pretty cool
22:38 there weren’t any Apaches around in Vietnam, the first flight of the Apache was a few months after the US pulled out of Vietnam. The helicopter you saw in the Vietnam movies was the Bell AH-1 Cobra, the first attack helicopter.

My grandpa was on the team that designed the Apache. His team designed most of the cockpit’s electrical work. In turn, it saved my butt when I was in the U.S. Army on a few occasions.

It's called EPW or RNEP and it's scary shit.
The GBU-57A/B is a 30,000 lb (14,000kg) bunker buster that can penetrate a long way through the earth and explode inside a bunker hidden deep underground.

The unguided rockets are each akin to an artillery shell, and used accordingly. 38 unguided rockets is a pretty big artillery bombardment, and could subdue a fairly large swath of battlefield in short order, with just shrapnel alone, so even without the rate of direct hits as Hellfire missiles would generate.

Artur, the A-10 and the AH-64 werr basically Americas cold war answer to massed soviet tank formations.
A great example of how these systems work would be the highway of death in the first gulf war.

yea the a10s 30mm is used as sheer punching powering where as the apaches 30mm is just a turret not a gatling gun. its probably used for light armour and infantry.

For a lot of these videos you've asked how aircraft know who they're targeting when firing, and nobody it seems has given you a very clear answer. For Close Air Support (CAS) vehicles like the A-10C Warthog, they use what is called the "9-Line" System. The designated Joint Terminal Attack Controller, or "JTAC", radios the CAS with nine lines of information, 1. the initial point of reference, 2. the heading from the reference point, 3. the distance, 4. the elevation, 5. target description, 6. target location (grid coordinates), 7. marking type, 8. location of friendlies (how they differentiate), 9. Egress (how they should exit the combat zone after the run). Then they have some qualifying remarks after this system is copied down by the CAS. If you'd like to learn more about the A-10C, and how it's actually flown, I strongly recommend looking into a study simulation called DCS World, which can show you how the plane is actually flown.
The coolest thin I remember about seeing them in Iraq was watching them do barrel rolls and and different evasive manouvers, little did we know they were doing it becuase we were watching them through various optics which set off their lock on alarms lol. semper fi

The “FLIR” system stands for Forward-Looking Infrared. It is a thermal imaging system. The 30mm cannon is slave to the gunner’s helmet. Wherever the gunner looks the cannon points.

The first version of the Apache called AH64A used the laser guided technique to guide the missile to the target, the later AH64D "Longbow" version have radar to lock the target first before firing the missile so it basically "fire and forget" technique

The Apache cannon has three barrels and is officially a chain gun, The AC 130 is electrically driven and has five sometimes six barrels
Hey, I actually work on these currently. These things are awesome! unless you have to fix them. haha. The 30mm is different than the A-10 in that the rounds are a bit shorter. The apache version is about 7 inches long. The apache is loaded manually every time they come back from firing if they are in a war zone or at a gunnery. An experienced crew can reload an apache from empty to flying in about 12 minutes. That includes 8 hellfires, 36 rockets, and depending on the setup between 350 and 1200 30mm rounds. So you know the informative video isn't 100% correct, but it is about 95% correct. I was in Iraq when an apache was shot in one of the engines by an RPG. it moved the engine, transmission, and blew up part of the body and it flew back to its base with no injuries. It is an awesome aircraft. Keep making the great videos brother!
You are truly right about the “ unless you have to fix them” part, I’m an apache mechanic in the Israel air force for 2 years now, and although this machine is built so intelligently sometime it seems like they haven’t put any thought into the maintenance procedures, so this helicopter is a very unfriendly and makes you work in tight spots that can cause intense long term back and bone pains and a lot of frustration.

If I remember correctly, there is one way to evade a Hellfire missile. The camera in the front is a FLIR (forward looking infra-red) camera, and it measures light emitted in a specific wavelength (like an invisible color) which is reflected when something emits heat. Thus, the missile follows the heat signature of whatever it is fired at. If a vehicle deploys flares, they confuse the missile, and it has a possibility to start trying to follow the flare. The flare is a small projectile which is fired slowly, and burns incredibly hot, thus emitting large amounts of infrared light, making the missile think it is the target. Those are the smoking bullet things you see flying off every plane ever in a movie.

hey Artur Rehi you should check out the AH-1 cobra helicopter, its one of the oldest helicopters in the world to still be in service and its a very powerful attack helicopter (quick note the AH-1 cobra was in the Vietnam war and modern variants are still in use today with the USMC and other armies).

I would have to say Warthog as far as flying tank goes. Heavily armored cockpit, 1 main massive gun and triple redundant systems.
Another cool thing, the Apache Longbow is the variant with the radar disk on top of the main rotor. The Apache can hover/fly behind terrain and just expose that radar to the enemy from miles away. The pilots/radar system will identify and assign targets to the Hellfires, which again the Apache can carry 16 of. Then the Apache can launch the Hellfires under a setting where they curve up like a javelin missile and top-attack enemy tanks. So the Apache can basically take a little unnoticeable peak, target 16 enemy main battle tanks simultaneously and fire all 16 of their Hellfires at the same time from behind cover. Just like that an entire enemy tank company can be knocked out, and the Apache is RTB to rearm to hit another one.

The AH-64 Apache/AH-64D ("Longbow"), and AH-64E ("Guardian") can quietly stalk its enemy prey, pop out from cover, make its attack, and drop back behind cover. The flight helmet has a system that tracks head and eye movement to operate the targeting system. The 30 mm cannon is slaved to this sysyem, moving with the gunners vision to stay constantly on target with where he's looking. Each subsequent iteration adding new technology upgrades and features since the Apache began service. It is the Guardian of our ground troops, keeping them safe from enemy forces in a similar, yet different role from the A-10 Warthog. The Taliban has found the Apache to be so leathal that they gave it the name "Monster."
The helecopter you're thinking of in older movies from the 70's or early 80's would be the AH-1 Cobra, not the Apache. Both have a long, narrow fuselage, but the Apache has twin turbine engines, larger winglets with two weapons pilons and is a bit stealthy, whereas, the AH-1 Cobra has the engine and rotor system of the UH-1 Iroquois, small winglet for a weapons system, and a nose mounted 20mm cannon and either a 40mm grenade launcher or another 20mm cannon. It has none of the advanced systems any of the AH-64 variants have.

The United States annual military budget is 20x Estonia's entire national GDP. (Estonian nominal GDP 2020 est.= $32.7 billion / U.S. Military Budget 2019 = $686.1 billion). A hellfire missile costs $115,000 at current procurement costs. That's not an absurd expense when the numbers are that big... it's a rounding error.

The laser designator for the missiles can be from the Helicopter, a ground unit, or another helicopter. With the Longbow apache it has the capability to designate many targets for numerous Apaches that can then fire from behind a tree line or a ridge etc

The “laser” is gyroscopic so it can lock on the target and stay steady as the helicopter moves and shutters.
FYI, in Vietnam, the Cobra was the attack helicopter of the day. The YAH-64 Apache was developed and presented in 1975. The Army selected the design in 1976, which, after further extensive development, it then approved for production in 1982. The Apache was finally introduced to service in 1986.
