Love your hat! How tick is the foam?
You don’t need a stabilizer for hats. It’s thick enough already unless you’re using a flimsy hat.

I've read regular craft foam is too brittle and that you need foam specific to embroidery. Is that true?

its best to use the same color foam with the thread u are using because it always gonna show a little foam on top no matter how good you clean it.
