Hi Peter. Thank you for this and all the other videos related to the drive shafts, CV boots and gearbox oil seals removal and installation. Having your guidance on the first major repair work I've done on my 1997 Corolla was clear and confidence inspiring. Not a single issue during or after the test drive! On to the next job!!
Peter Finn thank you, your manuals saved me a lot money. And also it's not my profession (I'm chef) but cars is my "hobby", I like to learn from your videos. So thank you :)
Thank you, thank you, thank you, I have watched your videos for years. With your help I have been able to rebuild 2 Celica engines one of which was an OBD1 engine I turned into an OBD2 and is running great. Someday I hope to turn them into 7agze's the bottom ends already.
The capacity is 2.6-Quarts of gear oil. I checked around and the common denominator is to use API GL 5 75W-90 Gear Oil. I checked with the dealer as well as parts stores and this is what they recommended. I was surprised as in 1998 there were no synthetic oils to my knowledge.
Hello mr.Peter my car is corolla 2003 i have a problem in my gear box when i start the engine there is a voice and when i put my foot in clutch the sound gone . many people said i must change gearbox 😢😢😢 please i need your advice
Lara malki that sound right message from throttle bearing you have to drop the transmission down to get to it it's a big job but you don't to get a new gearbox
@@kamalabbady6778 it's not called the throttle bearing 🤣 it's called the throw out bearing. Since your changing the bearing might as well change the clutch. Clutch kit is around 130. Labor I'm thinking around 250 . It's cheaper in my area but it beats of buying a while new transmission
Sorry Sir, the torque of the drain or inspection bolts of the gear box, must be no more than 39 N.m (Newton. meter). at least this the value for Celica 1999 until 2007 ann for 2005 Toyota corolla, Carefull
Hi is there any other inlet that gear oil can be put in the gear box? My neighbor put gear oil in the upper portion the one that can be open with allen wrench and his 1st and 2nd gear got stock 1992 corolla
Hi Peter, what are your thoughts on very minor gear box leaks? I have a small leak around the casting - from the seal/bolts near the drain plug - on a 1996 caldina (4wd) I recently bought very cheap. It's small enough that it never leaves any puddle/drips, but there's slight oil buildup around the case seal, and the sump (/box) still had at least half the normal fluid level in it (first time I touched it too). The only 'symptoms' were reluctance to shift into 2nd and reverse, which got slightly worse over time... The drained fluid was fairly clean even - just normal use darkness and some very fine particles of dirt/metal. I'm ~99% sure it isn't the drain plug leaking as I have checked and cleaned that well and it stays relatively dry, and had less buildup on it prior to opening it. The box looks like it has been opened and resealed poorly some time fairly recently as there is some fairly fresh looking orange sealant. Ideally I know I should take the cover off and reseal - but that's a bit of a time consuming task :D - my "plan" was to just leave it and check the level more frequently (my own car, so taking a slight risk like that is "OK" I think). With oil in it, it's back to having really quite good shifting now - goes into all forward gears very well, and only occasional slight difficulty getting it into reverse on the first try.......... If/when it gets worse, fix it properly then - I don't really like the concept/thought of gearbox sealant additives (though to be fair, some other people have told me never to even bother checking or filling/changing manual transmission fluid at all!). But I was curious about your thoughts due to your expertise! Thanks for your videos, Jim.
Hey, I have an automatic 3 speed Toyota Starlet p80 1,3 cat with motorcode 2e-e. But, I find it really hard to find information and parts to it. Does anyone know where to find the fill hole, and drain hole in this car? For the automatic transmission.
If you don't know, there two things you could do. Either fill it until oil starts coming out out, or measure the amount of oil drained by pouring it into a bottle.
How come yall never actually answer the question asked? I'm pretty sure I know the answer toy own question but never hurts get a second on it.. where do you add the gear oil on a 1993 Toyota Corolla 5 speed front wheel drive 16 valve 4 cylinder 4 door 1.6 liter I believe cover all area
Terrible from Toyota for making adding trans oil that way🤦♂️ My mecanic changed my cv axle and a little dripped is it ok just to leave it like that?not making noice, feels normal
I really enjoy watching your videos, especially the older ones, I find them so relaxing..... Thanks Peter, you're the Best!
Good info !

Thank you. Great video. Love the corolla. 23 years old and runs perfect.
Great to hear!

very nice .. i did it and when to put the new oil the filling screw did not want to break out ..all the time start with the filling screw😉
Ok and Thanks !
@@PeterFinnTheCarDoctor How do I know if it's safe to change gearbox oil on a car where the oil has never been changed?
Thanks alot🙏
By the way I like your accent. It's like your signature on your videos. 👏
Most welcome 😊

My manual says it should be 75W GL 4 but GL5 is fine as long as the oil does not contain sulfur/phosphorus
Woow Mr Peter you are really help fully
Thanks for comment. I appreciate 👍😃
Thank you, this was annoying me not seeing any transmission oil dipstick to check the level
You should always open the fill plug first. If it gets seized and ur gearbox does not have any oil in it ur screwed.
Very good explain peter 👍
Thanks 👍
Hello is it a similia procedure to replace a gearbox in a corolla 1996 as in your videos that show replacement on a newer corolla?
Thank you for your message. I have read your message. 😀👍
Thanks for good instructions
Where in Funland are you living?
Does have this transmission "pressure" valve? For pressure compensation, in case, when more oil is added. Thank you.
Very useful information, thanks!
Hi and many Thanks for feedback. :-)
Can you do gear box oil change on a 2011 corolla model Valematic manual 6 speed?

i have a problem in my gear box

+Lara Malki Hello. First, please replace gearbox oil. It could help. Look video:th-cam.com/video/RUaLTTAeHxY/w-d-xo.html
Did that work? Cuz I have the same noise and it goes away once you push the gas.
100% Clutch release bearing , pricey fix

Yes, I have the original Toyota EPC and also for the Starlet they recommend 39 Nm for both the fill and the drain plug.
Yes i saw he was putting so much pressure on the bolts 😬 nonetheless the best 4afte trans fluid guide
How many liters of oil?
Hi bro.. I hav corolla 2015 model in Pakistan.. Which transmission oil should I use??
Hi, is there any difference in engine oil and gearbox oil ? Thanks
Yes. Engine oil is more better quality.
lhc sern ahahahahahah yes. they are completely diffrent dont even think about it.
Gearbox oil is much thicker... amongst other things.
Regarding oil types I'm don't want to play smartass. I just go with manufacturer recommendations.
