I'm not sure I would have been brave enough to ride the bike that far!
What a great bloke Robert is! So good having someone that knowledgeable to help out.
Sometimes these issues take a while to discover exactly what they are. Every day is a school day though and you guys looked like you learned a bit that day!
I'm intrigued now and looking forward to seeing what the problem was. And hopefully it wasn't too expensive a repair!
Yes it’s really interesting and actually really fun to work on bikes 😁
@@LaviandOllie It's much more fun than working on cars I can assure you! 🤣
Hey Bill, this is an interesting one to watch. It's hard to decypher the noise via a camera's microphone. And yes, Ollie was brave to ride it like that. I'd have been dacking myself.
@@mjpt57 Yeah, it's hard to detect over the internet although loads of people here think they have the correct answer! 🤣
It's definitely not a V-Strom sound that's for sure! 😂
@@MrAusadventure if was V-Strom-like it’d be like listening to Nirvana. See you at Peterborough.
It is good to have a friend who knows something about engines. Doing all that stuff in a official garage would cost you a lot of money. Hopefully Rob will find the problem so that you can start your adventure.
Its not sounding good, thought the big end had gone but you checked that, so its got to be something inside the lower part of the engine.
❤️
Lavi, there is no need to rush. We are enjoying the beautiful scenery with you, and we do not want to be nervous just to see you driving at high speed. Be careful, please.❤
❤️❤️❤️
Robert is a blessing !! It’s always good to have friends that know how to fix motorcycles! We can learn from them!!
Totally 😍
What a lovely guy Robert is, clearly very knowledgeable...good luck guys, hope it's a relatively minor issue 🤞👍
Yes he is our hero 🤩
4:52 “come on little VanVan, you can do ittt” 😂😂 this made me laugh out loud. 😂
😂
(I am not an expert, but…) It looks like your piston rings are bad. @14:15, notice the edge of the piston crown is clean. Usually the carbon deposit is fairly uniform across the whole surface. This might be where oil is passing through while the bike is running. Yes, I realize you are getting compression, but the oil control ring could be bad and not the compression ring. If you look up “Blown Head Gasket - Visual Evidence” Dave shows an example of what happens when a head gasket blows, but also talks about “ring wash”. I think you’re piston has ring wash. I hope this helps. Thanks for sharing your adventures! Best of luck!!!
Isso ocorre devido a válvula Pair que joga os gases da queima para dentro da câmara de ar e esses gases mistura com o ar e passa pelo carburador e depois entra na câmera de combustão para ser novamente queimado.
The first thing you need to do before adjusting the tappets is to leave the bike for several hours or even better overnight to allow the engine to cool down.
Robbert is great! What a Lovely man. And we are all learning something 👌🏻 nice video.
😍😍😍
Its a little concerning to see issues as soon as you bought a used vechicle but hopefully its nothing major and Robert seems to get to town with the engine all the way .. Great guy to have nearby ... Keep rocking !!!
We’re so thankful for his help ❤️
What I love is he is getting you to do the work as thats the best way to learn is by doing it yourself under the watchful eye of an expert! Keep up the great work 😊
😍😍😍
Smaller bikes are easier to learn to work on than large bikes. You have a good teacher. One learns enough to eventually even do a few more things like fix/maintenance on larger bikes. It's like math. You learn the basics and build on it. In fact you probably already rebuilt the 125cc engine.
Totally true! 😍
It’s awesome to have Robert checking out your bike.
Totally ❤️
Cracking video, we all need a friend to help now and then, and old skool is best , hope it’s not a costly fix 👍🏼
What an absolute gentlemen and he clearly knows his way around an engine...be interesting to see what is causing the problem 👍🇬🇧
Rob is the best 🤩
How nice of Robert to help you guys out. He’s a real angel. I’m sure he will get it figured out. Just hope it’s nothing too expensive. I just have this hunch the guy you got it from knew it had an issue. Bummer. Not a good chap. Can’t wait for the answer.
Yes Robert is a real Angel 😇 I don’t think the guys we bought it from rode it for a long time so I think they didn’t know
It did sound like bottom end but maybe not. Perhaps even camchain tensioner isn't working well enough and the chain is slapping around.
Wouldn't use e10 in it.
Thanks goodness for guys like Robert!. Looking forward to see what the issue is.
Totally 😍
Suzuki used to use a glue on the stator magnets that got dissolved in fully synthetic oils leading to them falling off and into the stator itself. Carnage! Could be your issue
Lavi will be building engines soon. Oli, you're good support. LOL! Robert is a great friend.
🤣
Amazing the amount of patients he has dealing with the newbies! Lol
🤣🤣🤣
I love this episode, what a great mechanic!! I'm so happy to see you on youtube!!
Glad you enjoy it! ❤️
“Taking my eye out” this one cracked me up 😂😂.
👁️🤪
Oh that looked like fun, I need a garage like that
Haha we love Robert’s garage too 😍
Robert know his way fixing engines 🙂 Great video, hope you can find the issue!
🤞😬
Robert is a legend! It's people like him that make the motorcycling community so great.
Totally agree ❤️
When I first heard the noise from your bike I was thinking something happened with the cam. Now has me wondering how deep is the problem 🤔
😬
Maybe a Detonation problem with the ignition timing incorrect, this is where the spark plug is firing at the wrong time. This would also explain the starting and lack of engine power. It can certainly cause the type of noise you are getting. I used to Drag Race motorcycles and have heard this type of noise before, prior to an engine failure. It can sound like small or big end failure, but is not, a simple fix, keep my fingers crossed for you. Really enjoy your videos and currently catching up on your world tour.
Thank you so much 😁
This is the best possible way to learn ,I hope the issue is nothing serious.
Knowing how to take apart your engine and how your motorcycle works is always good. Especially when you're on longer trips. Learning it from someone with hands-on experience is really good.
I needed to take apart my engine because of because of bad ball bearings of the crankshaft on the cvt side (continuously variable transmission). Got most of the information from TH-cam. Replacing the crankshaft still takes most of the day. Bringing it to a mechanic would just cost too much. Probably more than a new engine.
Totally true 😍
It looked quite scary to see the bike been disassambled to a skeleton! My hubby is also a mechanic and he narrated me what's going on because I didn't understand a word what you were working on 😂
🤣 it’s really helpful to have friends knowing what’s going on 🤣
Hmmm that's an odd one... Almost sounds as if the ignition timing is off.. hence lack of power and poor starting and that popping noise is the ignition still occuring while a valve is opening... Like it's letting out a bit of the explosion too soon lol.
Just my guess, probably wrong.
What a top chap though!
🤷♂️🤪❤️
Lavi is so full of energy :)
😍
How did the valves and valve seats look? Piston has a bit of carbon so I would be checking the valves and even the carburetor. Its and odd rattle for sure.
What a legend Robert is ! If anyone will find a problem , Robert will. 🎉🎉
Yes 🥳🥳🥳
My first bike was a 70's Honda cb125. I found it in a canyon, deserted I guess. Got 100 mpg.
Awesome 🤩
You guys are the happiest motorists ever.
❤️
Hi lavi and ollie, In the last video when you rode lavi's bike it sounded nice, but when you rode your's I could hear the engine rattling and thought that's not good and someone else said about the rattle, there is something wrong I'm sure you knowledgeable friend will find something wrong and get it sorted 👍, I wonder if the seller new there was a problem and that's why he was selling the bike. Anyway let's hope it's nothing to expensive, I'll keep my fingers crossed 🤞 for you. Best wishes Roy 😊.
Thank you so much Roy 🤞☺️ we can fix it ❤️
@LaviandOllie That's good news. A question for you, I am going to order one of your great overlander t-shirts and I am a 40 inch chest, do you know if I should get a large or extra large, Thanks Roy 😊.
Lavi is really flying on that bike. How long has she been riding ❤😂😂
Woohoo 🥳
Sounds a bit like @MarcTravels old Honda.
Im positive that you will fix it and keep going on epic adventures
❤️
Its almost certainly the giggle pin that's faulty😂What a top man Robert is👍I hope he finds the fault and its something simple🤞
🤪
That guy is a gem.
He is the best ❤️
Not even two minute in yet, But I'm worried that's a rod knock, and I wouldn't run it at all! I'd be pulling it apart and having a good look at the bearings, and inspecting & measuring the crap out of the conrods big end.
In saying this, that wouldn't affect it starting. that would be down to Valve train. (just can't tell because I don't know how fast it is supposed to Idle, I'm a Car mechanic who just brought a Motorcycle, I'm yet to really learn anything about them)
OK i heard it during the compression test (and cringed) that's Valve train. the question is, has the rocker damaged the Camshaft or valve?? or is a cam bearing?
Had a similar issue on another model, but check also the carburator that can rattle lose and the air passage for "foreign objects", check also the wear on all sprokets and that you have no dirt or bad chips inside the oil ways. Sometimes sprokets chip off and still have little play but the whole thing messes up the cylinder. Just a few guesses over the air it is difficult to help more, sorry.
Thank you so much for the advice 😊
Hola L&O,
How nice of that awesome Robert to help you out!
I hope it's a quick and easy solution so you can continue with your new adventures.
We'll be here cheering you on.
Safe and happy travels and see you in the next one.
Lots of love, Sue ❤❤❤
Woohoo 🥳
Hopefully in the next video you'll see a good result and get the they bottom of the issue. Need to be right before you set off and look how much you're learning. Good on you :)
❤️
Do like the look of the van vans but would have gone with a crf 300 for reliability... Good luck you guys. Sheffield, England
@MalibuMotorbikesandMusic Not sold in the UK.
Thank you 😊
Your Bike was making the noise when you bought it and I told myself, what a bad knocking motor.
😬
Interesting to watch you guys/guyettes pull the engine down and learning about such things. Best way to learn, and of course, this video will help others learn a bit about how engines work too, hopefully.
Have to ask though - what made you decide on these bikes? I don't know if Suzuki sold the Van Van here in Oz. Love that fat rear tyre, too.
As for the tyre size, 180 means 180mm across. The 90 (if I remember you calling it a 180/90 means that the tyre wall height is 90% of the tyre's width. Also called aspect ratio.
Yes it’s actually so much fun working on bikes 🤩 we just thought that this bike would be the perfect learner bike for Lavi as she’s just starting to ride bikes ☺️
I followed the strip down of the engine with interest whilst you were at Roberts. All looks good so far, so it will be interesting to see what is the cause. I too live in Leicestershire, so when you are next in the area let me know and you can visit us for a coffee and any cheese delight of your choice.🤣 All the best John & Penny 'Old and Alive' 😊✌✌✌🏍
Yes 😋 much love to you guys ❤️
Oh no! bring back BUMBLEBEEEEEE!🏍🏍🏍🏍🏍
🐝
I’m only 1m30s in but this sounds like my Yamaha 125 that had a bent valve stem. It clicked, lost power and had some extra vibration . Let’s watch some more to find out :)
👀🥳
I think you gave us the hint with the picture at the beginning of the video. Probably one of the loctite fixes underneath the stator cover, something's banging around under there possibly. I run a DRZ400 and they're famous for loctite fixes. This is good experience for the both of you those engines are fairly easy to work on. Don't forget to grease your mechanic friend when you're done (no pun intended) 🥃🥃🥃🍺🍺🍺💷💷💷💷
🤪 thanks so much ☺️
Before you go on your trip - join the AA RELAY! Old bikes will not be as reliable as the VStrom.
Good idea 😁
weird noise... first thought was the big end... it's a mystery.
Totally 😵💫
One more tooth and it's valve into piston.
Sounds like it's losing compression via spark plug hole?
My guess is a worn out cam chain.
Does Robert thave a youtube channel? would love to see some motorcycle repair videos from him ?
Unfortunately not 😭
Maybe broken valve spring
Workshop of dreams ❤
Totally 😍
Dodgy cam chain tensioner

Ok 👏🎉👍
❤️
Eye socket....hahaha 😮
🤪
Jump time maybe
🤷♂️🤪
Can I asky why after going through your test you've both had 125,s considering your doing tours and trips etc.
Because they are small and light with a low seat height and a low centre of gravity. Lavi and Ollie can put their feet down easily, it's unlikely that they will drop these bikes, and if they do they can pick them back up easily. With the fat tyres and comfortable seat they are good for off road riding. They have no top end power to write home about, but good low end pickup and a smooth power transfer. Ideal for small, lightweight people like Lavi and Ollie.
Even though I got my full license I’m not an experienced rider at all so starting with a learner bike will be good for me 😍
Time to take it back from the guy you bought it from and get your money back. I guess it's a USA way of doing things.
Hey… we are fairly local I reckon if you need further help give us a shout 😉 happy to get our hands dirty too
Awesome! Thank you so much guys ❤️
Tutu tut tut Oli, your hands were tooooo clean, come on man get stuck in, and if in doubt just rub your hands in some oil and grease and look the part. Everyday is a learning day.
🤪❤️
Just take the BMW bike, which is over there, just for a small test-ride....
🤪
broken lol what's going on !
🤷♂️
Waiting for the next installment
Seems like I heard right lol
Yes 😬
Fingers x can be fixed! You can get Himalayans for 3k ish if you are lucky (if all goes to pot).
P.s with handguards etc and a pannier rack. (Most dry bags fits e.g lomo 30l). Am gonna get the Lomos myself I think.
🤞😬
YOUR NEW BIKE LOOKS OLDER THAN YOU 😂
🤣
