Honestly, the best performance of Sondheim's classic. I've always been fascinated by Marin's beautiful voice. I thank God that we still have these videos to remind us of what an amazing singer Marin Mazzie was, and what we've lost.
Robert Stephen Browning Mr. Browning - that is a perfect description of how Marin delivers this amazing performance. Pathos and emotional connection. That is due to the fact that she is a brilliant actress that can sing! The perfect leading lady for Sondheim, which is why he loved her singing. In this performance, you can't tell that Marin is wearing a wig. Or that she was taking in chemo and radiation while working still. Marin looks absolutely beautiful and luminous here. But she had already been given the late stage ovarian cancer diagnosis. Marin fought like a tigress to stay alive, and livedwell while she was fighting Cancer. Can you imagine what it takes to live every day as if it was your last, and take on a show and perform 8 days a week, while fighting Cancer? That's what Marin did. That, among the other reasons, is why Marin Mazzie is a brilliant artist, and is why I admire and love her. She will always be young. She will always be beautiful. Marin will always be in her prime, and we have hundreds of recordings of her singing, acting, interviews, etc. which will have to do.
@@CarmenZynger That is similar to Nancy LaMott, who also did a great version of the song, combined with Good Thing Going; she performed for most of her career with Crohn's disease, and a few years after that was helped with surgery, she performed with uterine cancer until shortly before she died.
A great performer can give you goosebumps. She's done it for me on this particular song - she owns it! Definitely giving Bernadette Peters a run for her money!! RIP to a beautiful artist.
She owns this song. It's so deceptively simple, but needs enormous vocal control to be effective. Bernadette Peters is good, but rhythmically her version is a mess. Marin Mazzie is amazing. What a loss.

I was just about to write pretty much write the same glowing description of her as you did. What a loss to the artistic community in this country!
Such a beautiful performance 💔
She sounds absolutely heartbreaking here. She sounds just as great in Sondheim's 80th birthday Celebration singing Losing My Mind. RIP.
I totally agree. I love her. My favorite all time Broadway singer.
Me too. I just discovered her
But alas too late 😢❤
Marin is a singular talent. No one can match the voice, passion, intensity, intent. No one
Completely Agree. I am so sad she is no longer with us.
RIP Marin Mazzie -- you were a such inspiration to all sings -- Broadway lost a great one Today
Marin is a beautiful woman with an outstanding voice! Her passing at such an early age will leave a huge void in the music world!
One of my favorite songs and you sing it so well. You will be missed, Ms. Mazzie.
A heartbreaking loss.
An extraordinary talent. She is missed.
RIP, Ms. Mazzie.
WE STILL HAVE THIS... LOVE YOU MARIN.
So powerful. Right up there with Bernadette's version.
Your kidding right. Peter's thin reedy voice can not compare.
and yet her version is the gold standard!@@markbob120
I can't, I just can't watch without weeping.
I'm properly sad that this wonderful woman has died. Saw her in Kiss Me Kate and was spellbound. RIP
such range...one of those rare few who could actually act while singing
How can such an angelic voice be here? So beautiful and sweet, then powerful and strong! My all time favorite Broadway Diva! Pure love, pure talent.
What a massive loss to our community. She was absolutely phenomenal.
Absolutely flawless performance. RIP Marin.
Having seen her in Ragtime, her voice is one of the wonders of the world in pathos and emotional connection.

Brilliant Song 🎵
She 's fabulous. I love it this singer. She´s Amazing. Bravissima!!!!! Wonderful
lovely version
What a loss - loved her
Wow!👏👏👏
The Best
Bravo 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Sublime
Very beautifully sung. I prefer this to Bernadette Peters' version.
Me too and also Barbara Cook performance
Love her
To be honest, I am a gigantic Mazzie fan, but nothing comes close to Peters’s vulnerability and her use of rubato. She reigns supreme in this number.
@@meto2854 I prefer this and Nancy LaMott's version, combined with Good Thing Going. I prefer the richness of their voices.
RIP
Wow
