- Someone posted this performance already, but in such a terrible quality it makes your eyes hurt... So here's our much better quality video of Patti's performance during The 1989 Grammy Living Legends Awards. She sang it in honor of Andrew Lloyd Webber, since he was a recipient of the award.

The best version, period
AGREED!!
Nicole scherzinger is the best. But this is second for me.
It seems Madam LuPone has finally been convinced she does not need to hunt down and destroy anyone who posts .001 seconds of video of her on the internet. Maybe we'll finally be able to build that Digital Altar to her she keeps burning down.
Patti Lupone is the best singer to this song! I love her
1980 San Francisco I was in awe and have loved theatre ever since
Madonna cannot hold a candle to this!
Hahaha, she definitely can't!!!💯
As an overall Artist Mrs Patti Lupone cannot hold a candle to all Madonna has done. Not necessary all the best technique trained voice is also the most pleasent.
Evita's vulnerability really came through during Madonna's role and vocals in the movie. She was perfect for the part period! In terms of actual vocal range, Elaine Paige was the real deal. Patti Lupone sounds like a bad orgasm during menopause.Shouting!!!! She's also a jealous kunt with a look at me I'm bitter grudge on her shoulder. Happy she left Broadway.
This discussion is so tired.
I actually liked Maddonas version better, this song doesn't need voice ornaments , it s best in a simplest form
I was drinking beer in a small town bar on the the north shore of Lake Superior when this Grammy Awards suddenly appeared on the house TV. Volume turned up when Miss Lupone was announced those of us sitting at the bar all grew quiet when she began to sing --- in a further moment all of the bar's customers & staff stopped whatever it was they were talking about or doing to listen hard in rapt & silent attention. When the orchestra finally faded & her song ended all the truckers, fishermen, skidder drivers & waitresses knew they'd just shared witness to a transcending moment of artistic brilliance.
THIS is an incredible story! We wish we could've witnessed that!😍
@@TheLuPoneDollsThank you --- I'm happy you liked it. If given the chance please be a doll & share it with your namesake.
the ending of that story...beautifully put!!!
@@James-em9qz Thanks for the good word. I'm old now & enjoy panning for nuggets. I met Ms Lupone at the Guthrie in Mpls late 80's when she was visiting David Warrilow --- I was their bartender....
If this was in 1989 then she is around 40 years old and I think at her peak of singing. For me this is the best rendition of this song. At her peak she is one of the best ever. A commanding while extremely beautiful voice.
Forgive me, but where is her microphone?
Mics during such performances are hidden in the hairline. It's placed on top of the head, so the cable goes down the back of the head and the mic is in front.
I had the good fortune to attend a program, when Ms Lu Pone came to Birmingham. Magnificent is the only way, I can describe her performance, when she closed the program with this.
I went to see her in Evita 4 times..❤
Brava, what a stunning performance!!
I saw her on Broadway when she first performed this and she was incredible. Great memories.
She is like Ted Neeley. She OWNS the role. Nobody ever will sing that song like her. The great and only Patti Lupone! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Beautiful song sung by a beautiful, talented lady!
What a performer
Simply THE BEST! 🎶🎶🎶
A beautiful Woman.
Wow! Good stuff!
You have the ultimate Broadway Diva, playing the ultimate political Diva. Its 'can't lose' casting at its finest. Its bound to be great theatre.
Ha, u just posted this on ig right? Thanks I love this performance so much, and that dress is to die for!
Haha, yeah😂 It was for our Music Monday section😊 So we assume you're following us on ig as well? Thanks for that! 💜
@@TheLuPoneDolls yep, I luv the content u post
@@mollsnickel Thank you, glad you do😊
@@TheLuPoneDolls hey!! I miss u and ur posts, r u oki? (I’m just checking in)
I um, well I apologize if I did something wrong😔
@@mollsnickel You're so sweet😊 We're all good, just preparing a couple of videos to post next😉 Also we were more focused on our ig account, since Halloween was on Sunday and stuff, so we made a couple of edits😅You'll get some new content tomorrow!❤️❤️
I saw her at the 😊San Francisco Opera House and was transfixed through the entire performance
Excellence.
Eat your heart out Madonna 😂🎉ENCORE ENCORE 🎉🎉🎉
THIS 👏🏼👏🏼😅
I miss when musicals were classy
Evita
Madonna who.
The one who got the role in the film that will be forever on celluloid.
Match that TODAYS “SINGERS “ Kelly RHIANA AND SO ON ❤
Madonna never had it!!
I saw Patti in person and she was spectacular!!
Karen Carpenter sings a gorgeous version of this.
Patti has a great voice, but her delivery pales in comparsion to Julie Covington's voice and rendition.
Love Patti but rude descriptions suck. Dislike.
We didn't post any rude descriptions for this or any other video.
Did I say something…
@@mollsnickel You most certainly didn't do anything wrong😊 Maddy is means our description for the video. We said that someone posted it already but that it was in such terrible quality that it makes your eyes hurt. Which is true... So don't worry, it's got nothing to do with you!💜
@@TheLuPoneDolls oki
HOW IS IT THE BEST I MEAN I COMPARED THE MADONNA VERSION AND THIS I KINDA LIKE MADONNA VERSION BETTER MY POINT IS SHE HAD BEEN SINGING THIS FOR LONGEST TIME AND THE ONLY TIME HER VERSION I LIKE WAS WHEN SHE WAS IN COLLAB WITH ROSIE ETC. IN TONY AWARDS 1998. MADONNA DID IT A FEW I DONT UNDERSTAND THE DISS BUT THE POINT STILL I FAIRLY COMPARED AND LIKE MADONNA BETTER. THE DIFFERENCE IS PATTI HAS A HIGHER RANGE BUT IT GOES THIN AND THICK VOICE WISE IT AINT CONSISTENT THAT IS GREAT ON OTHER SONGS BUT MADONNA HAS A LOWER RANGE BUT SOLID EQUAL VOICE CONSISTENT WISE THAT FITS THE SONG
No I must say.. Madonna is a tart..but she sings this better
I prefer Madonna's version
sorry to say it, madonna sang it better...
Madonna lip-synced better maybe
Remember when she takes the stage that is NOT Patti it IS Evita
Patti owned this role …she is Evita! Great performance as always
I love how she still completely acted out her character in this performance, even though it was a simple and short televised appearance. I got chills by the end of it. I can't even begin to imagine how incredible it must have been to see her sing this on Broadway in 1979-1981.
She's pretty much always acting this song out, to this day. Chills included. But Patti only did Evita on Broadway from September 10, 1979 to January 10, 1981.😉
@@TheLuPoneDolls yes I went through other performances I could find after stumbling on this and she really did act it out every time! incredible. also thanks for the correction on the dates~
@@TheLuPoneDolls Ok so name me a single person who has created an iconic role on Broadway, who CAN'T be accused of the comment you just made???!!! This, to me, is a very glib comment. YOU are watching, child; you're not DOING. Give a listen to Patti singing Ladies Who Lunch, you will swallow your own stomach...
@@sorenaleksander2670 What comment?
I've seen her do this AT LEAST five times.
She ALWAYS swings for the fences..she is the epitome of a show horse.
She can't/won't/hasn't ever phoned it in.
She's a theatrical beast
Her presence struck me watching her sing and act in American Horror Story season 11 this year. Having spent my 62 years in Minneapolis I missed out on the New York scene, but still recognized the name. Thank god for TH-cam to see what all the fuss was about with this great diva.
Not only is she an amazing broadway Diva/Legend, But she is also belting while wearing a Corset Dress!!!
Icon behaviour.
Corset helping posture which helps breathing, although I'm sure Patti Lupone doesn't need either to sing this song.
I recognized her the instant Yellow Diamond started singing. Unique and powerful.
Its about the voice. Awesome
Gente, que espetaculo!!! Estou em choque!!!
All that was missing was a mic drop at the end.
madonna could never
Love this musical and her rendition of this song ❤️
Simply stellar!
Sean McManus brought me here 😅
Tina Arena.
😭😭😭
Omg. She blew a kiss to ALW at the end? Was this before they “buried the hatchet?”
This was before the "hatchet" even happened😉
Hers is not a beautiful voice, but is a mastery of craft and technique for what it actually is. You can hear the discipline, the toil, and the passion.
To her credit, she becomes a vessel, a steward, of whatever song is required of her. That is why she is one of the theater greats.
But this song. No. Not suitable for her voice in the least. But, we honor the icon this production made her. That is always hers. And rightly so.
When you hear this and remember hearing her sing you. cannot long for the 70's and 80's life was better and the people were were less evil I think
The 70s, 80s and 90s were better for sure! Sad but true!
@@TheLuPoneDolls Yes the homophobia and racism, the lack of technology, cancer that was untreated - so much better then.
Violent crime was at its highest in the 70s. If anything people were more evil
ALL. OVER. THE. PLACE.
STUPID. UNINFORMED. UNEDUCATED. IDIOT.
