    You really should connect Logic and the TR-8s via midi so they sync up automatically 🙂

    Yo Marcus I've watched this like dozens of times, I just can't help but feel the contageous vibe of inspiration when you tear it up on remix mode! We need to hear the final version of the song! Did you finish this?? More videos like this please!

    Really appreciate you taking the time to make this video. I have been having a challenging time learning the Tr8s. I can't wait to be demystified and create some awesome tracks!

    You are absolutely right about the TR-8S! So many accidentally created sounds with the TR8S. Nice video! I like the vibe 👍 Thumbs up

    Absolutely awesome video! Such great ideas! I never thought of playing a loop in my DAW and then hitting play on the TR-8S and just having a play. So obvious but such a great idea. Thanks!

    You probably know this already but rather than "match the tempo in Logic" midi out of your recording interface/soundcard into the TR8S, so when you hit play in Logic everything else in the midi chain plays.

    • @gatorgoforth3097
      @gatorgoforth3097 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree. The midi will jitter and slip away from your grid in Logic unless you sync the clocks.

    bro - WHY are you taunting us like this LOL. Another dope episode! I think I have just found my next Christmas gift to myself. Roland has been quietly slipping these products in with zero to no fanfare. Have you seen the MC707? I also love how their products work together. I appreciate you my brother...I know these videos take time to put together. But they are truly priceless. Learned so much these past couple weeks on your channel - you can't stop now haha

    Marcus, you mentioned you ran the USB from the TR8S to your DAW to get all the channels recorded separate, are you also running your tr8s phono lines anywhere? Are you using an external mixer at all and are you only connecting usb to it? Thanks!

      Mrsuspicious S it’s soo much fun!!! I use it all the time. Before I added to my studio I spent a few days playing with it at the kitchen table with some headphones. I learned how to get through all the menus and worked out my workflow. I suggest doing the same before you add it to your studio.

    Hey man so I’ve been wondering what you meant when you said “put it into remix mode” what mode are you actually going into in order to stutter your steps live like that? Thanks for any info!

    • @Dispatcher813
      @Dispatcher813 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      When he says remix mode it's a stutter effect that is available in rolands new update. You can download it from from Roland's site. It just allows you to solo in on step and repeat it. Seems cool for live sessions.

  • @toddthomas4761
    @toddthomas4761 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Marcus... thanks for the video! Was also wondering about your workflow. Do you ever just print the MIDI and then have that trigger the machine? I had a TR8s and sold it, but I actually regret it. Many things I loved about it, but I think I had trouble with my setup. I could never decide when to print the drum tracks! Feel like I'm always making changes to my drums during my songwriting process.

    • @marcusdavis3261
      @marcusdavis3261  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hey for me I commit to the audio. I print the separate tracks into my DAW as audio. There’s always the option to add or take away later. But I find working less with midi and more with audio changes the overall outcome, because it forces you to work with limitations, and in my experience limitations are a good thing. 👍🏾

    • @toddthomas4761
      @toddthomas4761 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@marcusdavis3261 Cool. I appreciate the response. I'm a songwriter but drums are the thing I'm still least proficient at. I think my inability to commit to printing drums is what made me sell my TR8s a couple years ago. Now I want mine back! But I would def have to learn how to change the way I write songs, but maybe that's necessary. I just get no "feel" from writing midi in a plugin, at least the TR8 has a vibe.

    • @toddthomas4761
      @toddthomas4761 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Btw... also love to know if you have any ways to add "swing" to this machine!

    • @marcusdavis3261
      @marcusdavis3261  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah man a major shift in my sound happened when I started using midi less. Even with VST Synths in the Daw once I lay down a part I print it as audio and manipulate from there. If later I feel like the sound is not big enough I just layer it with another sound or add more processing. Commitment to the sound forces you to get creative in different ways rather than sifting through tons of sounds and never really landing on something you like 👍🏾

    • @shapeshiftersmediagroup
      @shapeshiftersmediagroup ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@marcusdavis3261 Thats the way to go! I actually had a similar change myself in that I used to always keep everything as triggered midi notes until the final mixdown, but now I print every single track out as audio and commit. It has changedmy whole creative process for the better. I loved my TR 8S, regret selling it, might pick another one up if Roland doesn't drop a new drum machine before the year's end.
