    im not even using Logic but this was one of the clearest videos i’ve found about recording TR-8S via usb, thanks for sharing! i’ve also encountered random bugginess trying to sync the TR-8S to the DAW clock via usb, so it really helps to know it’s not just a Me problem 😂

    You confirmed some issues I've been having with bugs with the TR. I've had to sync over midi thur my audio interface the USB midi on the TR sucks. I'm have a recording lag when trying to record midi notes in to Logic from the TR. That was a cool feature you demonstrated and very useful. Thank you.

    awesome video thanks! questions: will this method track motion, or do you need to record stereo audio out for that?
    why make the sound output through the TS? do you then have the audio outs going to your studio monitors? if you want to route through your interface could you just make the tr8s audio in and leave audio out on your interface?

    Nice and thank you. I am an old Cubase user and wanted something that worked like ReWire did with ReBirth338. Now that Logic has the loops and step sequencer update I am thinking this is the way to go. Might be best to use the mix out when composing and only mono tracks when doing a final mix - ie. the timing issues you mention.

    Hi Marcus - very useful video but any chance of you updating this for 2022 please, seeing as there have been several Mac OSX and Logic upgrades since which change the game somewhat? I have just bought a TR8S and am trying to use it with an Apple M1 Silicon Mac and the latest version of Logic Pro X and having all sorts of timing, syncing and other issues such as the TR8s interfering with data sent to other hardware synths on independent midi channels! Ostensibly I just want to use the TR8S as a sound module and do the programming in Logic whilst recording the result from the TR8s out of it's main and sub outs through my UAD Apollo X6 interface back into Logic. Any help would be greatly appreciated - thanks!

    Marcus, thank you very much for this video, super clear and super informative. When you mention towards the end that you don't keep the master midi sync on when recording because of bugs and some other issues - I noticed the same thing, I get weird downsampled-sounding signal with that sync on. Just out of curiosity, would you mind sharing what kind of machine you are using? I would like to find out if it is a software issue (either with Roland or Logic) or if it's more a hardware issue.
    I'm using a MBP with 2.6 GHz Dual-Core Intel Core i5, 8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3.
    I also am using the NI Komplete 6 Audio Interface and have created an "aggregate device" together with the TR8S.
    Thanks again man.
    Blessings.

    Thanks!!! Thanks!!! Setting USB to Individual is what I was missing! You are a genius. I didn't know about track stack. So I'm starting over from scratch. I had already starting making tracks. Stacking them is a much better idea. It looks like my midi clock screen is different but I still manage to activate the clock. Saving this as a template is a brilliant idea. Thanks for these ideas and tips. Yes a driver has to be downloaded. Here its is: www.roland.com/global/support/by_product/tr-8s/updates_drivers/.

  • @neveoney7865

    Hi great video thanks for that!
    Two questions, would you absolutely recommend TR-8S for production ..especially for house production in combination with Logic? or is it faster in Logic itself?..say you use TR-8S for the whole production than the Roland interface?
    Is it normal that my kits are quieter and that you set the volume per kit on the TR 8S to the highest level?

    • @marcusdavis3261
      @marcusdavis3261  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think it’s a good addition to software, just to help you get out of the box. But you shouldn’t change whatever is currently working for you.
      Yes the kits are quieter, but once I get them in the software I usually have no problem beefing them up. Using the TR8 is more about changing the creative process to get different results than it is about the sounds.

    • @neveoney7865
      @neveoney7865 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@marcusdavis3261 Ah ok thank you I see.
      You don't change the volume of the individual kits on the TR-8S so that the input signal is louder?
      ...and do you always use the interface of the TR-8S during the whole production of the track?

    • @marcusdavis3261
      @marcusdavis3261  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah I just add gain in the DAW. That’s the down side to using the USB to record. The other option is to use the multiple outputs and record analog into your sound card

    • @NPNvlogs
      @NPNvlogs 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@marcusdavis3261 Thanks for the reply. I see what you mean. It does seem crazy to me that it would have such a low output, and I feel like I'm cheating the final mix by adding gain. I guess with recoding analog you only get a left and right channel right?

    Thank you for the amazing video, this is very helpful! One question (anyone please feel free to answer) - let's say you finish recording the TR-8S parts and want to add another hardware instrument like a guitar or a synth, how do you go about changing the audio interface from TR-8S to another one? Can you have two audio interfaces running in the same Logic file? If so, how? Thanks in advance for the info!

    • @MrCarlos820
      @MrCarlos820 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      If you have a Mac you can create whats called an "aggregate" device, that means it combines your TR8S with your other audio hardware interface, then in Logic you select aggregate device as your audio source. you can record in the drums from TR8S and your guitar part coming thru your other interface either at the same time or separately. if you have a PC, you cant do that but you can change your selected audio device in Logic then record your guitar part. - for info on aggregate device check out some other youtube vids that explain how to set that up.

    Hi Marcus, I'm find this drum machine a nightmare, I can get the midi and track out the individual audio files. Thats not a problem, the problem is is that even though once the individual audio is tracked out and my start points are correct the audio won't stay in time, it rushes throughout an 8 bar loop for example. Even though i have 95bpm selected in logic and on the drum machine. So towards the end of the loop my snares won't be on the grid anymore. do u know what this is?

    • @marcusdavis3261
      @marcusdavis3261  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I’m not sure but my guess would be the delay compensation in Logic is not set right. There is usually a delay when using logic as a master to trigger the drum machine to play. So Logic has a delay compensation tool that realigns the audio once it’s been recorded. This usually needs to be set manually and takes experimenting. I personally am manually pressing play on the TR8s and if it’s not lined up I manually slide the files around in my DAW.
