    I'm the only person in my area of the world who loves the 13 trilogy.
    Not going to lie it's confusing and each game had it's own theme and even lore that kept evolving. But the gameplay and the complicated story is very intriguing.
    It's a trilogy I've been wanting to revisit

    • @Nick2quickOfficial
      @Nick2quickOfficial ปีที่แล้ว

      I enjoyed it. The trailers in 09 had me hooked, however, 13-2 ended up being my first. Before that the only other FF I played was the demo to FF12 that came with DQ8. I probably wouldn't revisit it though, looking back, those games took a lot of time to beat, especially the first two lmao.
      I just watch the 4K upscaled trailers and CGI cutscenes now sprinkled with a little bit of FF13 reviews/retrospectives.

    • @yeahthatsright33
      @yeahthatsright33 8 ปีที่แล้ว +20

      yeah, watching these made me realize how awesome this story actually is. Even though I still can't really keep up with what's going on 100%. The connections between revelations in the sequels being the causes of the entire problems in the prior games are going over my head as well as how it seems that every single thing the main characters try to prevent at the start of each game they wind up causing themselves, despite the fact that every time they do this, its always somehow still in opposition to the bad guy? So in the end of the first two games or something neither the bad guys OR the good guys get there way?
      Ah well, shame, this whole story seems really cool but god damn it was poorly executed. I couldn't even bring myself to finish the first XIII. Lost motivation and understanding during the fight with Barthandelus in Oerba or whatever.

      If Vanille performed the Soulsong and purged the old souls, "cast off" the shackles of regret and sin, who's saying that new shackles won't be forged in Bhunivelze's new world? New sins will be created, new regrets formed, new sadness born. Therefore, why not indeed save the old souls currently trapped in the Sea of Chaos? I guess that's the central message behind this game; you can mess around with a lot of things, but you never, ever mess around with people loved by others, genuinely, innocently, and purely loved by others.
      PS The mythos of the game was inspired by Shinto Buddhism, NOT Scientology!

Such an epic story, it's a shame more people can't appreciate the story of the 3 games due to how poorly it was conveyed across 3 games. I played Xenoblade, yet I still couldn't understand how did Shulk get his power to overcome the Bionis God.
      As for Lightning, simply put, she's Frankenstein's Monster and Bhunivelze is the mad scientist. On top of that, she possessed the power of the dead, of the Sea of Chaos, an entity of unknown origin whose power overwhelms the living realm's gods, including Bhunivelze. If you must, you can say that this story is like Xenoblade, but with improvements that allow the story of tormented mortals who rebel against evil gods to make more sense.

    wow, this was really confusing. It really does sound like over the top fan fiction. but if i had to sum it up i would just say the main question or theme in this game would be " what would you do if you could start all over?". this game explores that. many people want to start over but they don't really want to lose their memories of what happened or what it means to be themselves. also who you ask that question to, you would get different reactions which makes the end boss fight interesting. if you ask God what he would do he might very well say back " i would do it without you. you were a mistake"
    it's a pity the story is so obtuse and convoluted because the core themes are really meaty for a good story that could definitely cover 3 games if this trilogy was actually planned.

    You did a wonderful job in recounting the plot of this game. Despite your efforts though I have no idea what happened. Someone should let Square know that just because there is a lot to say doesn't make it complex, it can make it confusing. It seems that with each game they release they want to add more and more to the story by hammering in more words half of which they created on the spot. One day I wish Square would have a live reading of one of their game's plot summaries. I just want to see peoples reaction to what has been said as its read aloud like a book and see if anyone could actually make a connection to it. The look of confusion and a camera sways across the audiance.

      Numbers don't tell the whole story. Sequels/prequels seem to do poorly across the history of FF games as fans cling to a base installment, regardless of the quality of thr game. I would argue the 13 trilogy got better as it went on, gameplay-wise, and Crisis Core was a much better product than FF7, but the core fanbase won't bother to play them, much less compare them. Just stick to what you like and ignore the numbers. (and keep in mind most RPGs don't even sell 1 million units)

    AMAZING PRESENTATION!
    Well thought out, concise and perfectly scripted,you sir earned yourself a subscriber! I absolutely love how you stayed on topic and in the 2nd and 3rd person, allowing the explanition to be fully understood and easily memorable. As a fan/enemy of this practicular franchise, it is hard to find people who talk about this game without unbiased negative criticisms who delve off topic.
    My personal journal with the XIII trillogy was love/hate: hated the first game because of how angtsy everyone was and (my personal opinion) how fast paced the character developement was. I can't deny that the gameplay and graphics were both perfect and georgous, it was just the story aspect as a whole that made me wanna die...yup...
    XIII-2's announcement made me shake my head with disapointment after Final Fantasy XIII's bombshell of a terrible game; I really want to stress that part - dispite the many pros that outweigh the cons, I personally feel that XIII's many amazing aspects were smothered in its terrible story. It's just my personal prefrence, but I won't lie, I had really high expectations of this game. And they crushed. Like bad.
    So hearing about XIII-2 made me bashed and rage towards the game and the like...then I bought the Collector's Edition.
    As a fan of Tetsuya Nomura and Nobue Uematsu, just hearing them in the developement process made me dish out $80. I would like to point out that that I will worship the very ground they walk on and would kill in their name so they desire it, that I swallowed my pointless pride and watch all of the promotional trailers and the behind the scene videos...and man was I blown away! Every little thing about the game I thought I would have a gripe with was sqaushed when they addressed the numerous things they were changing and adding. So in the months leading up to its release, I was anxious to play it!
    And man oh man I was blown away with orgasms; Final Fantasy XIII-2 was the best game I had ever played since 2012. Improved gameplay and amazing story, I just fell in love with characters like Serah, Noel and Caius. They were so well written that I couldn't believe I was liking the man that I am supposed to stop. If I hated a character, it was because they did something I legitemately hated and would personally bother me. The music was just phenomonal as well. Just listen to the soundtrack and you will see what I mean. AND OH MY GOODNESS THE ENDING WAS JUST A HUGE MIDDLE FINGER, that I demanded a seqeul be made!
    Then Lightning Returns!
    ...
    Hmmm...
    Funny story, I was so captivated with this series that I bought its limited edition controller, collector's edition strategy guide and downloaded a crap ton of FFXIII related hentai in expectation of this game, that I actually waited two years after of this game's release just to play it!
    More on that later.

    I think people sometimes take video game logic to seriously. The point was that ending was pretty epic. The only problem with this series was that the first game was a bit to linear and yet even so the games story was still pretty damn interesting. Then people want to give shit on 13-2 all because they still have ill will against the first game. Personally 13-2 was my favorite from the 13 series. Its a grand trip.

    • @Serinigalini

    • @ToveriJuri
      @ToveriJuri 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The game doesn't need to be epic on a stupid scale to be good. When you throw epic shit for "epic reasons like rule of cool" the actual storytelling suffers. Almost every JRPG becomes stupid at the point where they are killing gods. Instead of the ultimate enemy being god they could actually encourage the writers to make a good plot twist.
      Some Shin Megami Tensei games do it well because the entire game revolves around mythical religious creatures, so it's not out of place.

      It had a great story, but it was expensive and time consuming for some. People don't stay young forever and peoples lives can change dramatically in those periods of time. Like maybe when FF13 came out, some were still in high school or younger. Then FF13 lightning returns, maybe a lot of kids went into military, joined college, or hit a financial struggle or many other factors. But I feel it was all pre planned to be 3 parts, they probably actually already all 3 parts ahead of time and just released then separately on purpose for money. I mean they are technically doing that right now with FInal Fantasy 15 with the DLC updates.

    My honest question to the entire FFXIII community is "Why do you enjoy this series??" I just spent an hour and half trying to wrap my mind around this series, and truthfully I cannot comprehend why people enjoy this game. This is my own perspective and I by no means expect everyone to share my views. The pros to this series are: setting (absolutely gorgeous), and maybe character development? I say "maybe" because from start to finish the characters in the series change and grow into likeable characters...however the driving force behind these changes is imo it's greatest flaw. Cons: this convoluted story!!! Omg the amount of bs and stringy plot in this entire series makes me want to vomit. At least give me a general theme?! "People who challenge fate?" I have no idea why things are happening in this series. Even after watching a great recap series which explains the story, I cannot find any basis to why anyone would enjoy these games other than; ooh pretty graphics and Lightningiscool

    18:10 - 18:30 I don't get it. According to the Fabula Nova Crystallis Mythology short that was released before FFXIII-2 and way before Lightning Returns, it specifically stated that the creation of humans were solely done by Etro and Lindzei was never shown or mentioned having any part of it. Why the sudden retcon?

    • @DenisK21
      @DenisK21 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      In the novella "Fragments After" released BEFORE that short, Lindzei's involvement was already revealed.

    • @godess_call
      @godess_call 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      DenisK21 Okay, I did some research to see if I was wrong or not, because I do recall the short being released before FFXIII-2 (I used to be an avid fan of FFXIII until FFXIII-2 release), which is true; The short was released in January 18, 2011, 11 months before FFXIII-2 release. Fragments After was released in June 21, 2012, a year after the short's release which would give it enough time for the sudden recon. The reason why you think the short was released after Fragments After is because if you look up the short on TH-cam you will see they were released around 2014, but that's because they are reuploads. The original was taken down for of copyright reasons (besides, the earliest reupload I could find is a german sub version of the short, which was uploaded in 2013.)

    • @DenisK21
      @DenisK21 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Anna R
      I see. Still, it's not really a retcon either way. It would be a retcon if they suddenly said "It was actually Lindzei who did all the work and Etro had nothing to do with it". What's been established hasn't been altered, but expanded.

    This game was, and still is, on of the most underrated and missunderstood games in the whole Final Fantasy franchise. The whole Fabula Nova Crystallis is absolutely underrated to be frank. I never thought the games are bad, I don't know why so many people seem to dislike them. I can see why FF13 was a bit controversal because of it's more linear approach, I think if they made clear, that this is going to be a 3 game saga people might have understood that this was heavy story driven. FF13-2 fixes a lot of these "issues" and was, in my opinion, one of the best games in the FF Universe I ever played - and I played A LOT of them. It's also the onyl FF game I went for 100% completition right away because it was so much fun, it never felt boring or anything like that.
    When 13-3 was announced I was 100% sure to get and play it, 13-2 convinced me that it's going to be a good game and I wanted to know how the saga ends. Over time more details were reveald and I people started to argue if it will be any good because of it's "time limit" and the fact that you fight alone and all that stuff. I had some doubts myself to be honest but as a huge FF fan I would buy and play it anyway so I did stop listen to people who just don't want to like it. When it came out and I first started to play it, it was VERY different, I had mixed feelings about it, however after a while you realize that the "time limit" isn't a real threat. The combat system on the other side ... how can I say it, it's not for everyone. You play as 3 characters in one, that's the closest I can describe it in a short manner. It took me several hours to really understand the mechanics to the point that I knew what I was doing, from there it took several more hours to "master" the combat system to a point where I felt confident enought to beat the late game quests. Once you reach that point, the game really makes a lot of fun, it's a fresh, new and fast playstyle but it could also get very exhousting, the final battle goes on forever and you have to be almost perfect to beat it. But it was fun in the end and the conclusion of the story and the entire saga was worth every button meshed during that fight ...

      When I see different games pronounce the same word different ways, like Yggdrasil, Mana, Ouroboros, Bahamut, Magus/Magi ... I have long concluded that as long as it's consistent within THAT game, it's the correct pronunciation for THAT game (because its a fantasy game and they don't have to spell or say things normally)
      So, I will usually go for THAT game's pronunciation of a word instead of how it is in the real world (ex: FF12 says Marquis "Mar-kwiss" rather than the normal "Mar-Kee") so I just roll with it. I also find there are a Lot of people either unaware of that trend, or unwilling to compromise and pronounce a word differently than normal (the worse among them try to insult me over it without referencing back the game).

    • @BRexxors

      ***** I honestly forgot. I played ToS first, and much more often, than I did Lightning Returns...probably just stuck with me. Good point with Marquis, though.

    So why did Etros revive the main characters from their crystal state at the end of XIII? They saved Cocoon from falling, the bad Fal'Cie are dead, humanity is safe and can continue to do the bidding of the gods, and chaos is contained. XIII-2 and Lightning Returns exist specifically because the characters were released from chrysallis, but what was the point?

    The FFXIII Saga is a result of over-complicating a story that was already complex; it doesn't mean the story is bad by any means. As a matter of fact, Caius is considered as one of the best antagonist in any video game series because of his character progression in XIII-2 and his clear goals, saving his love. The saga was more of Square testing waters for how games can be interpreted and how they should continue on with the FF series.
    They were appealing to a much more adult audience of the series, those who grew up with the first Final Fantasy rather than FFVII+. Why I say this? The concept of crystals. Crystals didn't play much an important role after 6 and was later revisited in 9, but was ultimately dropped for reasons. They tried to bring back the concept of crystals in FFXIII, which wasn't bad at all, it just was different from the FF series that most people grew up with.
    Ultimately, most people got lost in the transcripts of the story, but in reality, this is how original FF games were like... very weird and complicated stories. But just because they are complicated and different doesn't make it terrible as many are making it sound. This series isn't really that hard to follow, it just has a lot more going on at the same time.
    For starters, FFVII was very plain and simple, Cloud must stop Meteor essentially. In FFXIII, we have a group of warriors trying to fight their way outta of a destiny that they didn't choose, but by a god. Sure FFVII can get deep, but that deepness was stirred by Crisis Core. You see where I am gonna go with this?
    Essentially, we, fans of FF, screwed over ourselves. The FFXIII saga is such a big fuck you to everyone because we wanted something more than they can give us. We wanted an awesome story, but with great gameplay. But.... it's just really hard to do something like that. Sure you can argue that many games do this, but I guarantee you will find a flaw in that game that will distract it from either the story or gameplay; not talking about technical issues like bugs or hardware issues btw. Most games nowadays, if not all, try to focus on one thing at a time, the FFXIII saga tried to do all, it had an amazing combat system EVERY SINGLE ONE, (Of course this is subjective, but it's generally considered all 3 had a good combat system.) but it fell short in terms of story-design.
    In short, I don't think the FFXIII saga was a failure, but it was a product of the fans. I really feel anybody should play these games if you are a RPG fan and try to play through it with a fresh outlook. The FFXIII Trilogy is NOT a bad saga, but suffers in the needs of what current generations of gamers want.

    Everyone talks about how the first one sold this much, the second one sold that much, and the third one sold this much. I'm sure games now days, such as RPG genres, are dying slowly. Gaming have changes a lot compared to back then. Not to mention, this new generation (majority) plays a lot of online/phone app. RPG genre games are dying slowly. IMO at least.

      Persona, Dragon Quest, Legend of Heroes, Pokemon, Witcher, and a bunch of other series proves your opinion is wrong.

    There's a lot to follow here and LR was my least favorite of the XIII series. But, I finished it and enjoyed it for the most part.
    The battle system took a minute to get used to and I wish I could've had more than just Lightning throughout the game. But all in all, I was happy to have completed it.
    Some of the battles in LR were pretty challenging, to say the least.
    But I wouldn't expect anything less from a storyline that defies fate, ""God," and correcting time paradoxes.
    The story could have been a little easier to follow though because I wasn't always sure of what was happening or the significance of certain events.

      That's what Tetsuya Nomura does. When he makes a game, the overall plot is fine. But when he decides to make a bunch of sequels out of it, the plot will quickly become a huge mess. That's exactly what happened with the FF13 and Kingdom Hearts series: They both started out with fine and straightforward stories, but then the sequels happened and the stories got very complicating. He just lives with creating complicating stories.

      Anna R maybe the reason was to get as many profit as he could. He once said that it takes much money to develop 3D games like FF 13. He need that to satisfy the BOD and the investors.

      Anna R actually all Tetsuya Nomura did for the Final Fantasy 13 trilogy was drawn and design the characters. He did little to none with the games plot. Thats all on Motomu Toriyama.
