Plaquing inside in the arteries is caused due to inflammation of the endothelium layer (innermost layer of blood vessels). When inflammation subsides, there are often left over scars. Calcium and cholesterol particles then start accumulating at the site of scar and this ccumulation of calcium and cholesterol ultimately leads to arterial plaquing.
Arterial plaquing may cause partial or complete obstruction. This sometimes causes heart attack or stroke.
