Hi, I'd love to have the data printed in the "Mean Distal 1 cm CCA IMT of General Population with no coronary Heart History" that is used to determine artery age.
That is the data to plot the 2 graphs for male and female.

Had very high cholesterol was having it tested every 3 months. Doctor prescribed statins I decided not to take the statins because of the side effects coincidentally added garlic to my diet during that time frame... went back for the test my cholesterol was completely normal . My doctor said I'm so glad to see you're taking your statins they are working wonderfully. I told him I never took the statins he was so intrigued he went on his tablet to find garlic studies for cholesterol he said -there is little evidence that garlic works to lower cholesterol.
But I was sitting right in front of him -that was probably 15 years ago.

Medical doctors aren't usually up on holistic treatments for health issues. My father was seeing a specialist for his diabetes for decades before I began researching natural cures for health issues. When I asked the doctor if he felt apple cider vinegar helped with diabetes, he said he personally never researched it, but that he had "patients who swear by it". I took it upon myself to fix my father a drink consisting of 2 teaspoons of Bragg ACV in one glass of water, 3X per day. That made a big difference in my father's sugar numbers. So much so that his doctor was astonished the next time I took my father for his check-up. He was even more astonished when I told him how we got my father's numbers to improve. They are medical doctors, concentrating on how to treat health issues with synthetic medications.

      @arifshahabuddin8888 3 ปีที่แล้ว +285

@@mhedbary Absolutely right. Statins are oversold an while many doctors will underplay the side effects (muscle wasting, liver damage, increased likelihood of diabetes, increased likelihood of dementia), these side effects are real and not uncommon. One of my patients lost a leg due to statin use. He's suing his PCP because of this. I myself was offered statins even though I had stellar numbers (Cholesterol=155, LDL=55, HDL=90, Triglycerides=150) and yet my PCP tried to get me to use a statin based upon age and other aspects of a formula. There is no way to confirm that the statin is working if the numbers one has are the numbers that one is trying to achieve. Statins really should be reserved for late-middle-aged and older adults who have had a heart attack and multiple other risk factors along with elevated lipids.

I've been chopping 2-3 cloves of RAW garlic everyday for the last 2 years. My Blood Pressure prior, was around 138 or 92. After a couple of months my blood pressure went down to 111 or 70. Also since taking it I haven't gotten any sicknesses such as the flu or a cold. I give a spoon full of RAW chopped garlic to my wife and two children atleast 4 times a week. They went for a visit to the Philippines with a bunch of family members. Once they arrived in the Philippines everybody in the group got food poisoning except my family; I read that Raw Garlic kills the bacteria from the degraded food in the stomach, stopping you from getting sick. After that incident all of my extended family members have started eating Raw Garlic weekly. If you rub a sliced piece of garlic onto acne, in a few days it will dry up and disappear. I had a tooth cavity and rubbed garlic on it and the pain went away. If you rub sliced garlic onto your mouth gums it will eliminate gingivitis without medication. One other major benefit of eating RAW Uncooked Garlic is mosquitoes won't bite you. The mosquitoes smell the garlic in on your skin and are repulsed by the smell and taste, I'm speaking from experience. The list of benefits from garlic goes on and on. WHAT TO DO: Chop up 2-3 cloves of RAW Garlic on a plate, let it sit for 15 minutes so the chemicals in the garlic mix ( the chemical mixing is the secret ). Then take a spoon and swallow the RAW Garlic with a spoon and a glass of water ( don't chew it or you'll have horrendous breath ). Do this 4-5 days a week and you'll immediately start seeing the Health benefits. Remember for acne elimination you have to apply it externally. God Bless.

So I started eating salmon I put melted butter and lots of chopped garlic then put it on the salmon while it's being cooked in the oven. And I drink cranberry juice with lots of water. No more soda and coffee. I did ate raw garlic I chewed it and it was disgusting but I forced myself for my own good lmao 😂. I was able to sleep better I notice on my blood pressure it was calmer than before. It's all about what you eat and lifestyle. I do exercise, I walk 12,000 steps

I love raw garlic, but it does not love me. It irritates my stomach very badly, though it's OK cooked, but I heard the benefit is lost if you cook the garlic. So I just have a tiny bit with sourdough bread, cold pressed pure virgin olive oil and fresh lemon juice, a very healthy Mediterranean snack. But what you say about your family not catching the usual bugs is interesting.

To benefit the conversation about the garlic, I make what I call garlic tea, I take a clove and use a micro plane to dismantle it into smallest pieces as possible, like the poster said “leave it sit for a while” to marry, then mix it in your tea cup with just warm water
(not hot) and maybe you can actually enjoy it, you could probably use chicken broth or beef broth ,might be excellent . Here’s to your health .

This video was made 6 years ago, but TH-cam still suggests it. While niacin was suggested in the video, and I used to take a fairly large dose of it daily to reduce triglycerides and improve HDL, there is newer medical evidence that this involves some risk. My mom died when she was only a few years older than I am from a hemorrhagic stroke. A clinical dose of niacin increases this risk. Therefore, those with any familial history of hemorrhagic stroke should consult with a physician before going this route. Recent studies focused on the endothelium are worth learning about.

As with you, I found the recommendation to take niacin dated, considering new data. I also found the resistance to begin taking statins misguided. My father and grandfather both died very young from heart attacks. Since the genetic cards were stacked against me, I started taking Atorvastatin the moment it became available and have been taking it for years now. I am convinced it's the main reason I've outlived my dad by 20 years, still work a very physically demanding job and still enjoy riding my motorcycle at 73.

    • @PrevMedHealth
      @PrevMedHealth  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1110

Yes. But don't over-interpret my focus as meds from this video. Here's why:
I've focused on lifestyle, especially diet, my whole career. The following video describes a New England Journal publication indicating that minimal lifestyle changes were 3x more effective than metformin. Given what I've seen in your book & videos, you might agree with me that lifestyle is more effective than most meds, not just metformin.
      th-cam.com/video/wjEtYqXxjrQ/w-d-xo.html
After personally delaying meds for years, I agreed to try a statin. My plaque reversed. This video was an acknowledgement of that fact; giving the medication/statin "devil his due". I had no idea this would become my most popular video. It might over-represent the role of meds in my practice - and under-represent the role of lifestyle. I use a balanced approach, whichever is needed.
After making this video, I learned much about insulin resistance (IR) and carbs - and found IR to be my major source of inflammation. I switched my dietary focus from avoiding fats to avoiding carbs. My blood sugars dropped. If I'd listened earlier to warnings about carbs, I'd be better off. My major focus is now dietary carbs (& IR) as the most common source of inflammation.
John's video below emphasizes the importance of lifestyle. He was not overweight when he started. But he still lost 42 pounds getting off carbs. And he reversed his calcium scan results. Again, he did other things as well. But correcting his blood sugar was the key.
      th-cam.com/video/ysifMKWKZLY/w-d-xo.html
      Pardon the long-winded response.

I had more frequent chest pains. I also had more frequent mini strokes that affected my vision. It was getting more and more frequent and I knew I was about to die. I stopped eating for 5 days, out of fear, and water fasted. After only 5 days my chest pains were gone and my mini strokes were gone. A year later still gone. Later I water fasted with electrolytes for 11 days. I knew it was okay since I had fat on my body for my body to pull from. I am certain now there is something to be said for fasting and it's affects on allowing your own body to heal itself. I didn't have to take any drugs or add supplements to make this happen. I was diagnosed prehypertension and first stage diabetes, 2011 at 42. General practitioner at GBMC, prescribed me a blood thinner that contained rat poison. When I researched it before taking it. That was completely unacceptable to take. Which then started my research for finding the cure. Low and behold, 3 scientist in 1998 won a Nobel piece prize in the discovery of Nitric Oxide being the signaling molecule that actually reversed, strokes, heart attacks, high blood pressure, high cholesterol and bad circulation. What nourishes the endothelium to reproduce Nitric Oxide within the cardiovascular system? L Citrulline And L Arginine. At 55, and after using these 2 amino acids since 2011, I don't have high blood pressure, nor diabetes. Of course major lifestyle changes came into play, from a complete diet change, no table sugars, to natural fruit sugars, and lots of time in the gym.

This got his artery age down to 52.

Doc, there’s a much simpler solution. I take vitamin k2 mk 4 15,000mcg in the morning and vitamin D3 5000 IU in the evening. I have high cholesterol but when I had an angiogram recently, the doc said my arteries were as clean as a whistle. Not only that the plaque on my teeth has dissappeared.
This is the standard medical treatment for osteoporosis in Japan except they take 45,000 mcg daily. So two vitamin pills a day and my arteries are squeaky clean, my bones are getting stronger and the plaque on my teeth has gone. The k2 mk4 takes plaque away from where it shouldn’t be and puts it where it should be....your bones.

Referred him to a pcp and saw him 6 months later when he had fully reversed the plaque. The only thing his doc put him on was Niacin. Not the "no flush" kind either. Yes you can reverse plaque, at least in my case it worked. I'm a female, age 70, I had an arterial calcification score done (CT - $105 ins. doesn't pay) and the result was zero, unlike 30 yrs ago when I had it done (I was told it was "mild"). I give most credit to my keto/low carb high saturated fat diet, of6 yrs, plus intermittent fasting. Instead of eating breakfast I consume two cups of yummy anti-inflammatory teas such as hawthorn/hibiscus, good for the heart, I add some ginger juice, cinnamon and lemon to it. My health practitioner wanted to put me on a statin stat for the rest of my life (it's ok as long as Medicare pays for it, right?) even tho she knew my score was zero so I asked her if I could get an nmr test (nuclear magnetic resonance) to which she said I need to ask a Cardiologist for it. So I went to a Cardiologist who told me "you don't need to take a statin - your risk of a heart attack or stroke is near zero." Why in the heck don't drs test for the small dense particles before giving a a toxic drug which has to be processed through the liver, only making things worse. My triglycerides were 46; HDL 114 (yes niacin helped); LDL 151 (I like it high for my brain and to prevent infections). My Mom and her Mom both died of a stroke, and I don't want to follow their footsteps.

While added sugars ARE a problem for insulin resistance, the best insulin sensitivity is achieved on diets that are VERY low in fat (8-12% of calories) and are filled with nutrient-dense, high-fiber whole plant foods. That is, 70+% of calories from whole food carbs.

(However, You would also feel great if you achieved the same improvements via low-fat plant-based. For example, there is a study where diabetics got their glucose levels under control and dropped their LDL from 102 to 62, all in just 3 weeks on a diet with 73% calories from WHOLE FOOD carbs.)
The problem is that in complex domains such as the human body, short-term results aren't great predictors of long-term results. We have no good long-term data on keto showing it is safe or effective in the long run and there are some reasons to worry.

Very glad to hear about your success with reversing arterial stiffness. One question and one comment. Is the buildup of plaque the only thing that causes arterial stiffness?
Diagnosed in 2019 with hypertension I got a carotid duplex scan, in 2021, which showed plaque in my left carotid artery: a stenosis of 60-79%, right at the edge of surgery. Plaque in the right was 0-39%. So I changed my diet to Keto [Oct 1, 2021] on which I lost, effortlessly, 20lbs of abdominal fat. I evolved to a Carnivore diet for its simplicity. Two years later and another Duplex scan and the plaque in my left carotid artery was 0-39%.
Time is coming up for another scan and I'm eager to see the results, today, at age 76.

Thank you for your videos. They are so informative. I had a triple CABG a year ago but it was unsuccessful. Two months ago I begged for an angio because I’d continued to have severe pain. In and out of the ER only to be sent home each time. Turns out the grafts had failed, one of which “most likely hadn’t been tied off properly”. I understand. Things happen.
So after agreeing to perform an angio, the team had to perform an emergency intervention and balloon me up in some areas and place stents in three arteries. I had 100%, 95%, 95% and 50% occlusion.
Hoping this was successful and may buy me some time in life.

    2. Blaming cholesterol for heart disease is like blaming blood for blood loss.

When you eat protein after the fast your muscle cells go right back and becomes stronger too. Sometimes you won’t even lose them because your body just burns fat.

I got off that antidepressant and after 3 months, my lab values went down. About a year later, I suffered a heart attack at home and the next night I went to the hospital because I had jaw pain and was still in a STEMI. Went in and had a stint and was blocked 90 something percent with the one being blocked 100 perecent. Stent placement. No high blood pressure ever. Not a diabetic. I have 55 and at the age of 42 I "updated" my blood vessels with an active pharmaceutical stent, and within a few months, I added an "add-on": another active pharmaceutical stent inside the first one and 2 angioplasties without stents in the same area, one of the most important areas for supplying blood to the heart muscle, LAD1, where the first branches begin. The statistical probability of it happening again in the future is very high, and the only intervention that should solve the problem will be a triple bypass artery. Therefore, I continuously search for articles like yours to find good ways and evidence that prevention is real and helpful. Thank you for your wonderful article!
I have one kind request: could you show your latest CMIT, the one that says your artery age is 52, please, dropping so amazingly from 73?

From his comment, I understood his message to convey that doctors who take their time to speak to the people on TH-cam care about keeping people well, healthy, and alive by telling them the truth instead of promoting only prescription drugs for everything.
You did not have to do this, but because you did, more people will listen. Doctors like you are helping add longevity to a plethora of lives. I agree with his comment, but I am not anti-doctors nor am I anti-prescriptions either. I am anti-lying to, about, and on doctors and the pharmaceutical companies because I believe patients contribute to their failed treatments and the demise by lying to their doctors, not following instructions, and abusing their prescription medicines.

As soon as I eat starchy food I go to sleep. I am scared of going into some diabetic type coma eating such foods, so So avoid them. Also, if you have certain mental health conditions eg Bipolar, although you crave the energy sugar gives you in one big hit, it soon leaves you feeling flat and depressed, no energy. So, by controlling sugar intake from all sources, including natural fresh, unsweetened fruits, I find it possible to control mood shifts. I've an arterial age of 88 - very similar body/lifestyle profile as the dr here -- So, I sure wold like to know the details of how you did score so much lower after only 2 years -- Are you saying that a low-dose statin + Ramipril and some omega 3 did the trick??? That seems too good to be true. My understanding is this: (1) ramipril will reduce plaque progression, inflammation but not reduce existing plaque; (2) omega 3 will slow plaque buildup; (3) statins also slow buildup - not reduce it. Please elaborate -- I'm not questioning your results but what you've said here does not account for a radical plaque reduction. (but hey, I'm not a dr).

Yes, the true causes of arterial plaque buildup is excessive sugars, carbs and rancid polyunsaturated fats a la vegetable oils. They cause chronic inflammation, which leads to the hardening of the plaque. Another big role in this is calcium forming in our arteries. We don’t take in nearly enough K2, vitamin and other vitamins and minerals that assist our body in absorbing the calcium into our bones, rather than in our bloodstream

Another take on heart disease that focuses on inflammation as the prime cause - cholesterol not being the main culprit but when there is inflammation of the arteries and veins the cholesterol tries to repair the damage so making things worse. The main cause of inflammation would seem to be that the system is not getting enough oxygen to allow the immune system to do its work - the cause: stressful breathing. Try this breathe out to say half way and hold your breath - if you make it 40 seconds you are way above average, When you hold your breath carbon dioxide builds up and surprise it is a vasodilator not a useless waste product It expands breathing channels arteries and veins so creating a greater surface area for the intake of oxygen. When you breathe too fast as a reaction to general stress this does not happen. I came across a 70 year old man who held his breath far beyond 40 secs - making me quite anxious - he had been a navy diver - he never needs to go to the doctor. You can gradually increase your breath holding capacity - first thing in the morning before food is best - you will also lower your blood pressure. I don't push it every morning I do 90 seconds. And air is free. see asthma cured in five days : th-cam.com/video/ADf6Ol1KmmY/w-d-xo.html

@@PrevMedHealth I share many videos on statins and inflammation with my family. Most don't want to hear it. I have familialhypercholesterolemia. At age 34 my cholesterol was discovered to be 600. I had CAD so they did bypass surgery. I looked into what would help naturally but not much info was available in the early 80's. I started taking several supplements but ate the low fat high, carb diet that was recommended. Also took statins. Luckily I survived and no heart attack. Anyway to make a long story short, as better info came out I reversed my diet to Paleo, added more supplements, increased my exercise routine and STOPPED the statins about five years ago. Was diagnosed with arterial valve disease about the same time and told I would likely need surgery on it about this year. However my doctor has not noticed any increase in the calcium deposits around my valve. I'm doing something right! Still no heart attack and I'm now 72 years old. I've done something right....😁

The doctor said he’d never seen that happen before. The only change in my lifestyle that I thought could maybe explain the change was that I had started taking Tru-Niagen, a form of B3 similar to Niacin around the same time as I got my first scan (I started taking it independently of my heart scan results).

Dr. Brewer, you said something fascinating at the 2:42 mark. You referred to new research by Dr. Bradley Bale, Amy Doneen and David Vigorous. They found that even in healthy arteries, small, dense LDL passes through the intima. The difference being that it continues straight through the media without getting trapped. Can you elaborate? Where does it go? Does it pass all the way through and out the other side of the artery, and then processed somehow? I tried looking up the research but could not find it. But one way of improving your concern, is to mix it up with small fish like sardines, as they don’t have that much pollution. The bad stuff accumulate in the fish as they grow, so young fish is better.

5 years ago, I had a calcium score of 1,400. It scared me. I went on a search to find a solution and began taking Vit. C with Lysinine & Proline with rose hips. Approx 1 year later another calcium score was 1,060 which was an improvement but not low enough to satisfy me. I have been taking this supplement for 5 years now and recently underwent an angiogram which was preceeded by an ultrasound. After the angiogram, my Dr. told me that I have a remarkable heart! I am 76 now and during the consultation after the angiogram, I asked him where the calcium was in my heart. He showed me a diagram with just 3 small spots which he deemed insignificant. I will continue my "Heart Health" supplement. I started my research beginning with Dr. Linus Pauling. He was never proven right but at the same time, he was never proven wrong. 70% stenosis of LCX - Proximal. 70% stenosis of Mid.LCX
    Right coronary artery:
80% stenosis of dist. RCA. 70% stenosis of med RCA.
    Diagnoses:

    - Coronary angiography elective with diagnosis of CHD on cardiac CT on 13.07.2023:
    - Sign. proximal RIVA stenosis.
    - RCX with long wall changes and sign. Stenoses proximal and in the middle section
    - RIM with intermediate stenosis proximally
    - RCA diffuse wall-angulated with sign. Stenoses proximal and distal
    - Lavographically normal LVEF. no reg. motility impulses
    - Cardiac CT in advance (Chur) with electrically path. Ergometry: diagnosis of CHD, Ca-score >1000
    - CyRF: Art. Hypertension
Assessment: The 47-year-old patient is found to have quite advanced coronary three-vessel disease for his age with significant stenoses in the proximal RIVA, RCX and RCA. Stenoses in the proximal RIVA, RCX and RCA. The vessels have diffuse wall changes, but the connecting segments for an ACBP would be relatively small. The LVEF is normal. I discussed the findings with the patient at length and told him that the findings were not suitable for percutaneous revascularization. With the patient completely symptom-free, we decided to perform a cardiac MRI with a question about the extent of ischaemia. Then we discussed ACBP vs. drug therapy. In addition to the established medication, I prescribed atorvastatin and bisoprolol.
